Darth Dino Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 Hi I would like to purchase a 8466 Offroader from 2001. It is a used Model that probably never has been disassembeled. What about the flex technic parts, will thye keep their angles and curves as they had the last ten years, or are they still flexible? I am a bit afraid of buying something that never could be used as source for parts. What about the tires, ten years old tires are still ok and "soft"? Rubber and plastic parts will lose their softener over the years - that is why i am asking. Dino Quote

JunkstyleGio Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 As a proud owner of this model and the set hasn't been disassembled since 2001 I can say that the tyres are just fine! The flex cable may be a bit stuck in fixed state but thos still bend like the were new! Good luck! Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 Mines on a shelf getting dust on it its been there for the last 2 years and before that under my bed the tire's are furm ,the flex parts can be bent any way you like so should be allright (athough thay will need some bending back straightness. 1980-Something-Space-Guy Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 I have owned this set for about 8 years I'd say. It is in pretty good shape. The suspension becomes looser with the years, but it's not too bad. It also depends on who owned it and it what conditions it was kept. You should ask about that. Quote
Blakbird Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 There should be no problem at buying an assembled set of that age. I have many and have never had a problem. Quote
CP5670 Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 Mine looks great too. There are no problems with the tires or flexible axles. However, this particular set does have an issue with the shock absorbers, especially the front ones. They tend to bend over time due to the angle they are positioned at and the fact that they are just barely strong enough to hold up the model. I added an extra shock absorber on each wheel, similar to 8880, which fixes this problem nicely. Quote
Darth Dino Posted September 19, 2011 Author Posted September 19, 2011 (edited) Hi thank you, i will buy the Offroader then. I am going to purchase it for the parts, therefor everything should still work fine. Is there another/additional source for the metalic green technic parts? le60head Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 hi there! I purchased my copy of 8466 just two months ago. As other people mentioned it as well in this topic, what you should be most concerned about is the condition of the front shock absorbers. The tyres should be fine - they're made of pretty thick rubber, and weight a ton! Apart from the green panels being a bit scratched, i cant imagine what could get wrong with that model, after staying assembled for 10 years. A bit of cleaning the dust, and it should be good as new! Good luck! Wish you a whole lot of joy with that model! Quote
TechnicJuan Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 I picked up a partially built one a few months ago on Ebay for $100. Great set. Quote
allanp Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 8465 is the only other set I can think of right now with the same metallic green parts. Shame really, it's an awesome colour. Quote
