Cecilie Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 The fastest locomotive in the west, The Yellow Flash. The locomotive is mostly modelled after a real locomotive, but the wagons are only inspired by the real stuff. And before anyone starts nitpicking: I'm not a train expert . Post and baggage wagon, with sliding doors inspired by Ralph_S' sliding door technique. Passenger wagon Dining wagon Caboose At first I was going to skip this category, as I don't have any prior experience building trains. But then I thought I might give it a try anyway, for the challenge . With a bit more time I might have been able to put on some stickers and add a few more details, but it's hard to try to enter all three categories . Since I'm a bit late with this, I haven't had time to clean up and upload all of my photos yet. There's a few more in my flickr stream, and some more will be arriving shortly. Quote
Artizan Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 The color scheme is stunning! I really dig the contrast between locomotiv and the wagons. Npu for the helmet as a bell! I like the texture on caboose too. Good luck! Quote
MstrOfPppts Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 (edited) Now that there's a voting thread, I looked at all entries and I particulary love your last wagon! The vertical build really gives the wagon a cool wooden texture look. Great idea and realisation. However I'm not to fond of the rest of the train especially for the color scheme. It looks too colorful to me, too cartoony and unrealistic. Though I know the old westeren trains used to be all different colors, I've never seen anything purple ... But I still think it's one of the better trains in this competition mostly for two reasons. First is the perfect last wagon and second is te fact you made all wagons 8 studs wide, which gives you better possibilities in detailing the train. Also making a brickbuilt engine instead of using any round pieces is a plus, especialy because it's so well done! Edited September 15, 2011 by MstrOfPppts Quote

Thank you for the kind words, but I guess I'm going to have to disagree with you on the color use . I like things to be colorful, and I chose some untraditional colors because I wanted to do something slightly unexpected. I've never built a train before, so I didn't think I could compete with veteran train builders anyway, wanting instead to make this a fun challenge for myself. As for the choice of purple, it was partly because purple was the color I had the most train windows in, after buying two Knight Buses . Quote
