It look interesting but at the same time looks very fragile and i like to play with my legos from time to time or take them dwon from the shelf to show someone. As for how wide, porbably twice the width of mast base section at the base and working up getting smaller.

Ah, so one of these would do the trick?

It would be much sturdier, and you could even slip some elongated technic pins into them. I don't think you should rebuild this ship, because it looks great. But you might want to try this out in future projects.

Well i plan to redo the stern of the ship but what did you think of the scale of the minifig?

And actually yeah that should work for making new masts i'll see if MLCAD has that part in it's database.

That would be great, I doubt MLCAD hasn't got that part in it's database, don't worry about that..

Updated more accurate stats about this beauty including actual length and bredth.

The St. Lawrence had her keel laid on April 12, 1814, and was launched on September 10, 1814. British naval commander James Yeo commissioned the ship in the Kingston Royal Naval Dockyard in Kingston, Upper Canada. Master shipbuilder John Dennis and nearly 200 shipwrights built her in under 10 months. The St. Lawrence's 112 guns on three decks qualified her as a first rate, larger than Lord Nelson's flagship HMS Victory at the Battle of Trafalgar nine years earlier. She measured 2,305 tons burthen, and she carried a crew of 700. In way of armaments she carried thirty-two 32pdr long guns and two 68pdr carronades on the upper deck, thirty-six 24pdr long guns on the middle deck and twenty-eight 32pdr long guns, four 24pdr long guns, and two 68pdr carronades on the lower deck. She had a gundeck of 191' 2" and breadth of 52' 6".

How many hours per day though? I'll go so far as to assume that you didn't spend 24 hours per day working on this, so perhaps the number of hours would be a more useful figure. Approximately that is, because you probably don't remember exactly.

The ship's size is very impressive.

Well i redid the aft section of the St Lawrence and yes the third mast is still there i just have it ghosted to get a better look at the the new sculpted stern.

I prefer this version. Was there any purpose to rounding the sides of the previous stern?

Hmm 35 - 44 hours roughly alot of the inner detail of the ship I left out but if i actually build it i'll fill that in then.

THe stern was rounded in the previous version due to the fact that moth the model and pictures i've seen have a very rounded aft but in order to accomplish the angles i had to compromise slightly.

Oh yes now that this thread is well established I shall make the following suggestion:

Admiral Starwind is it possible you could upload the below image to each of your Pirate Brickshelf folders? Since your Brickshelf Folder is being moderated I can't look inside to see if the advertisements there, but if memory serves me correctly its not. It seems we've been experiencing a bit of a quite period lately so perhaps we could do with a little boost.

Done mr Phes

Why thank you Admiral Starwind your assistance in promoting the Pirate forum is greatly appreciated! By the way... Anyone else with Pirate Brickshelf folders can add the promotional image too. I recommend adding a promotional image to one folder every second day, this way it gets better coverage than uploading them to all folders at once.

Nope the St Lawrence has no sterncastle most ships of the line didn't have stern castles.

HMSStLawrence.jpg

Much like the HMS Victory in my sig she features no stern castle. The HMS Victory will also be a target of one of my next MOC's

Well the victory is the ship in my sig and as you can see she dont have a projected stern castle that extends above the top deck the stern castle is level with the top deck due to the fact that ships of the line were already three decks tall and if you had a stern caslte any higher it would make the ship unstable.

Do you mean to say that the stern castles never ascended beyond a third level or that after reaching that height if they were not level then instability would ensue?

well if you think about it taking into the account of the height of both the victory and st lawrence above the water line if you were to extend the stern castle further it's rather pointless and would make the ship way too tall
