Burf2000 Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 Hello there, this weekend I actually got some building time in. Here is George v2, I never actually finished building v1. Last years disaster of a robot was named Bob (can be found on here). This robot does not have any similarities to the last one and hopefully also does not suffer from the same faults. So far its naked (not plated) and I might not even end up plating it due to the weight. Its controlled via a wireless PS2 controller and can move its arms , claws, head, eyes etc). It still needs some work but I thought I would see what people thought of it. Features 1 NXT that has a PS2 Mindsensor wireless connector, hiTechnic infrared sensor and a ultra sonic sensor. 2 9v lights for mouth 1 9v old style motor which rotates eyes 6 medium PF motors which drive head (up down, left right), turns body, pneumatic switch for claws, and elbow joints for arms. 6 XL motors. 4 used to move the robot about, 1 on each arm for shoulder joint. 2 small actuators for neck 4 large actuators for shoulders The robot is actually quite stable. I will do a a few videos when it is finished :) Flickr album Quote
timslegos Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 Wow that is huge! Looks very functional and its amazing to see how strong Lego beams really are. i cant wait to see the video!! tim Quote
Sokratesz Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 Could add more detailed hands and fingers so he can pick up stuff more easily. (I love pneumatics :)) Quote

(I love pneumatics :)) Agreed however its a weight game, more detailed hands would mean a very heavy arm, 2 acturators + xl motor struggle to lift the arm already! Quote
Sokratesz Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 Maybe attach them at different angles, gear the motor down a bit more and/or put two LA's in succession with the motor in the middle so it has a larger arm. Quote

I am glad you replied as I actually forgot that I have not finished the hands/ arms. I am tempted to put a mini motor in each so they can rotate at the wrist. Once 99% of the robot has been finished and programmed, I think I might take some of your advice and rebuild the arms as they are a little pants. I only have 4 weeks to finish it (sounds like a lot of time but I work long hours and have a newborn baby :)) I absolutely love pneumatics and my last years giant robot (its on the forum) had a lot of it. I love building pneumatics engines! Quote
Sokratesz Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 The only problem with pneumatics is that its very difficult to achieve positions in between of the two extremes :) But thankfully we have mini LA's now. Good luck with the build and the baby! Quote
basbase Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 Cool project . What is your power supply and how much does the robot wheigh? Quote
Burf2000 Posted August 31, 2011 Author Posted August 31, 2011 So far its running on 2 PF rechargeable batteries and 1 rechargeable NXT battery. I might increase it to 3 PF batteries but being careful of weight. Its heavy, its got to be 15KG plus! Quote
Stauder Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 Where have I seen that sort of robot before? Looks great mate, maybe we can get a video of it in action? Stauder Quote

Burf2000 Posted September 16, 2011 Author Posted September 16, 2011 Well done some more work on this. I had to make the arms stronger to upgraded to 3 actuators per arm. Wish I could get rid of the clutch noise. Also added air tanks and compressor for claws Stream I have plated more of it, I plan to take a video this weekend finally !! Quote
