paddy_kerrigan Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 Hi Everyone, My name is Patrick and Im from Ireland. Im getting back into lego again, havn't built with lego since I was a child, I'm 38 now. Iv just bought the following Lego Technic sets, 8110, 8071, 8070, 8019. i'm really having a blast building again. I'v also downloaded Lego Digital Designer. I was wondering if any of you could help me to find some LXF files of gearbox designs to build. I'v found 2 on the net so far. They seem pretty hard to find, It would be great for some help with this. It would be even better if some of you could email me any LXF files of gearboxes if you have any, my email address is paddy_kerrigan@eircom.net Thanks in advance, Patrick Quote

Welcome to Eurobricks! I see you spared no expense to start building again, great! If you want to draw (or view) technic designs, you are better of using different tools then the LDD. http://www.ldraw.org/ Take a look at this all in one installer for LDraw: http://www.ldraw.org/Downloads-req-viewdownload-cid-1.html You can search the web (MOCpages, Brickshelf, forums, etc) for gearbox designs and then see whether there are digital files available. Burf2000 Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 Welcome! I have never tried to design a technic model on a computer. That must be hard work! Glad to see new blood in the technic area! Quote
DLuders Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 (edited) @ paddy_kerrigan: On this Eurobricks post, Josh Lucas posted an Lego Digital Designer .lxf file for a 7-speed (plus reverse) gearbox: Rufus2468 posted a of a 6-speed gearbox. He has the LDD .lxf file posted here. I found several more possibilities on this Google search. Edited August 30, 2011 by DLuders Quote
paddy_kerrigan Posted August 30, 2011 Author Posted August 30, 2011 Hi again, I would just like to thank all of you that helped me with the info I needed, Im just getting back to lego again. I found some very interesting sites and posts on the net to do with gearboxes. Iv just put up a new post, maybe some of you could help me with it, thanks, Patrick. Hi DLuders, Forgot to say thanks for the file on the 7 speed box, its awesome, thanks Quote
DLuders Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 (edited) @ paddy_kerrigan: Sariel (Paul Kmiec) has Building Instructions for the grey/green "2-speed Heavy Duty Linear Gearbox" shown below. He also has built a red/grey/blue "4-speed Compact Linear Gearbox" and a blue/grey "AeroShift Gearbox". You could probably model them in Lego Digital Designer (LDD) if you have patience. Sokratesz Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 For heavy duty applications I would refrain from using the old 8 tooth gears in the drive train, they are extremely fragile. - Sok. Quote
