Jim Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Recently I read that someone had ordered extra Technic parts at Lego, possibly with the Pick a Brick section of the website. However, when I look at that section only some basic Technic parts are available. I've also read a comment that you can order any part which is currently still in production. Can someone shed a light on this for me? Would it be possible to order, for example extra Unimog Wheels or Unimog Steering Portal Axle Housings? Btw, I am of course aware that I can order almost any part via Bricklink, but I was wondering whether I could order at Lego directly? Sometimes the quantities I need are not easily available at Bricklink. Any help would be appreciated. Quote
paul_delahaye Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 I don't know the answer, but I totally support you and agree that any production part should be available online pick a brick, some MOC require large quantities of parts which are just not available on Bricklink in Europe, certainly not at a reasonable price, Quote

You might have to be nice to the phone rep; and you might not always be able to get exactly what you need. You will probably pay slightly more than PAB which appears to be better for multiple different items. I would love to be able to order a specific part in a different colour (e.g. the split train bases in blue, or the new train fronts in black), but doubt this is possible without a minimal order of xxxx (thousends)... or through the twice yearly LUG requests. Does anyone know? Quote

Maybe they assume it will decrease sales of entire sets, which is why they don't. Right after the release of the supercar, I noticed a store with 100 Steering CV Joint Axles in stock. Yesterday I did a search on Unimog tires. There's a bricklink store in France which has 44 in stock. I am always wondering where they get these parts. Edited July 28, 2011 by Gekke Ted Quote

I know of several people who buy large quantities of sets (and by large I mean 50 or more), take them apart and then sell the boxes, instructions and all the different parts through various channels, which is probably the source of some of those. There is good money to be made there because the individual parts of some sets can net up to twice as much as the set itself cost. I've done it on a smaller scale when I was younger, it takes some starting capital and a lot of time, but it can really make a good profit. - Sok. Quote

Jim Posted July 28, 2011 Author Posted July 28, 2011 Yup, Lego Direct. Indeed, that was exactly the post I've read. Thanks! I didn't think someone would buy 11 Unimog sets, but if you have the cash why not. The tires alone are selling for nearly 7 Euros. Quote
Chrizzle Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Hello, what you have read in the topic is correct, you can just phone Lego Customer Service and tell them that you want to order parts. What you need to identify the correct part is the number of the specific item that u can look up in the building instruction of the set. Also they can sometimes identify the part using the so called "design number" whihc bricklink.com uses for identifying the parts. Furthermore the Lego Customer Service can tell you then, if the part is available or not and how much it costs. I have ordered a lot of parts using this method and i am very satisfied with it! Just give it a try! Hope i could help you! PS: i live in Germany, but i think that you can use that Lego Service in almost every country. Quote

DLuders Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 (edited) On Page 47 of the long "Official #8110 Unimog Thread" topic, I had details of my Lego Direct order for these new parts from the 8110 Unimog U400 set. It took about 11 calendar days for the order to arrive. Edited July 28, 2011 by DLuders Quote
Konajra Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 By phone ( Lego Direct) you can order 15 different elements and 200 pieces per element per order. When you need for example 16 different elements you have to place 2 orders. At least that's what I was told at my last order. Quote

Meatman Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Gekke, he has the prices for those parts in the link that he supplied. New Technic Shock Absorbers (4619319) = $1.91 ea. New Hub piece (4610378) = $1.04 ea. New Portal Axle housing (4610377) = $2.08 ea. New 94.3 x 38R tires (4610381) = $4.54 ea. New C-shaped pivot frame (4610379) = $2.25 ea. New cup to fit on above pivot (4610380) = $1.02 ea. people buying on bricklink have paid almost 3x the amount for some of these parts already! LINK Just look at THIS $7 for a shock that only cost $1.91? What a mark up. Quote

These prices make me wonder whether Bricklink sellers don't buy these parts directly at Lego and sell them via Bricklink. No need to buy 11 Unimog sets if you can buy the interesting parts from Lego. Having 44 tires in stock but not 44 rims, surely would explain this. Unless someone has bought 44 seperate commons rims and not the tires Thanks for the list. I will definitely contact Lego in The Netherlands and see what my options are. Quote
