Listing of Current vs Discontinued parts?

Does anyone know if there's a list of what parts have been discontinued, and possibly some modern alternatives they have?

This might be something peeron can do, but I don't know how to do that kind of search.... anyone know?

Or, if that doesn't exist

my specific need is for these

mini balloon tyres

I feel like making some moon rovers, and they're just perfect.... except not available as far as I know...

This modern tyre is the same size, except its cylindrical rather than spherical, so it doesn't 'skid steer' as nicely.

Does anyone know a common modern tyre that is rounded for easy side skidding?

P.S. I know I can just buy the old ones on bricklink, but I'm trying to stick to Newer equivalent parts, since I want soemthing sustainable for large numbers of mocs....
