I need to make a level crossing on a curved track. I surfed around flickr, brickshelf, mocpages, google... could not find anything.

I know it would not be much realistic, but unfortunately I need to make one and I cannot find any good solution.

any idea?

Here In Milwaukee, WI, on the east side of the downtown AMTRAK station there is a curved crossing.

By the looks of the example you need to use some flexi-track, you still need at least a 8 wide for one way at a time or 16 wide two way traffic in straight track.

Good luck 'mrblue', post your pictures when you have built the crossing.

Is it tiling the inner spaces of the track that makes it particularly difficult? I'm sure that leaving some spaces is unavoidable.

Do you think using an older type of track (4.5V or 12V era) with less sleepers would allow you to lower the area of those spaces?

after some attempts, I came out with this...

before realizing that I have to put it on a curved 12v track

anyway, making a 12v one should be easier using 1x4/1x3 tiles on 1x2 tiles with center stud and also due to the fact of the center power line that helps if it is not fully tiled.

It looks like very good, but did you try it in practice?

At some event we tried to make tramway in curves, but with 4 studs wide fillig trains derailed (there is not enough space for the wheels I think)

A solution with 3 wide filling and 2×~0.5 wide gap will function better.

didn't try yet, because almost 98% of my lego is already packed ready to move. I need this particular thing because in my (future) layout, I planned a 12v setup with an old X cross (I have 2, but cannot find a suitable solution with both) and to reach a part inside that loop, the only accessible way is through a curved part. I tried other solutions, but I would need more space and more tracks (that I don't have or want to buy).

as soon as I'll have chance I'll make a test, but first I wanted to know if someone already had my same "logistic problem"

Thank you so much for the solution! I so need this! I have a town layout surrounded by a railway line and the only way I can join the cargo train hard to the main town is across a curve. I spotted this thread while browsing and it could help to make my town look a little more realistic. Huge thanks!

While indeed there are all sorts of interesting bits in old threads like this, please do not bump an old topic just to add a small comment or ask a quick question. Few of the readers will remember the original discussion and it just becomes confusing for the regular readers.

If you have questions for the original poster you can try sending them a private message. You can also start a new thread if you have a related topic that is not a direct continuation. Of course if you do have a substantial follow up to an old thread it is sometimes appropriate to do a bump like this, e.g., "I finally built this and found...."
