gui45 Posted July 9, 2006 Posted July 9, 2006 Here's a little fort I have built. Unfortunately it is seen here incomplete as I needed some parts for something else, it lacks the cannon on the front, two lanterns and a few other things. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted July 9, 2006 Governor Posted July 9, 2006 Have you declared this MOC to be finished? To me it looks like a Work In Progress that needs a few finishing touches, so in its present state it still looks quite good but it would be nice to see a finished version. Will you be acquiring the pieces you have stated as missing? I also think the walls need the "parapet effect" which is easily achieved by adding 1 x 2 bricks. Quote
gui45 Posted July 9, 2006 Author Posted July 9, 2006 no this isn't really a totally finished MOC, and it lacks pieces because this MOC is in my previous home that is my parent's house. I didn't use a lot of small bricks because I haven't a lot of white (erm, faded white :p) pieces and the bulk of my work is made of large 5x5 white walls which came from a big hospital. I may add yellow bricks here and there. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted July 9, 2006 Governor Posted July 9, 2006 Fortuately plain white bricks are inexpensive and plentiful so if you want to get into building Imperial Guard forts I recommend you stock up on those. So well this fort be completed with the additions you stated or is adding a few yellow bricks here and there all you're going to do? Quote
oo7 Posted July 9, 2006 Posted July 9, 2006 Even though this is not completely finished I find this exterior very nice, although If you were a minifig visiting that place it would be almost impossible to see that flag since it's in the middle of the roof. I think the stairs are too narrow but better that what LEGO could do, they would put no stairs at all. All of your furniture is black, if you made some brown it would add some good variation, and II suggest you add a trunk/chest, and a table with 1x1 trans-[old bottle color] and some wine glass pieces. good work *y* *y* Quote
Captain Roger Posted July 9, 2006 Posted July 9, 2006 That fort is nice but the guards look silly Quote
oo7 Posted July 9, 2006 Posted July 9, 2006 That fort is nice but the guards look silly Cap't Roger, would you care to explain why the guards look "silly", I think they look fine. Quote
Captain Roger Posted July 9, 2006 Posted July 9, 2006 Ok,I'll explain it...That is because I don't like the classic smile and minifigs with that smile look silly,i suggest you gui45 to change their faces...for example in my MOC i'll change the face of the imperial guard and put him a face of a imperial armada guy Quote
Sean Posted July 10, 2006 Posted July 10, 2006 I think this fort is a very solid MOC at the moment, but adding yellow and details such as the wine bottle would be a great touch. Perhaps a ladder to get to the launch as well? Quote
ghoulrealm Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 I think a hinged back wall would be nice, and a few extra touches such as a powder magazine(stacked barrels) and cannons piled by the cannon turrets. Overall, it captures the essence of an imperial fort very well. *y* Quote

Do modern LEGO sets still use that face anymore? I think this fort is a very solid MOC at the moment, but adding yellow and details such as the wine bottle would be a great touch. Perhaps a ladder to get to the launch as well? There's a yellow wine bottle? Quote

Phes, your so stuck in the past, go visit shop at home sometime. ;-) I think this fort is a very solid MOC at the moment, but adding yellow and details such as the wine bottle would be a great touch. Perhaps a ladder to get to the launch as well? There's a yellow wine bottle? There is a yellow 1x1 cone but it won't look very good, I believe Sean meant to say a wine glass. Quote

I may add yellow bricks here and there. Go with white. It looks nicer. Not sure where you are located gobally but open a Bricklink account if you don't have one and buy some small bricks from the country you are in or one near you. They sell cheap. 1x1 or 1x2's can be found for around or even less than a cent a piece. $10 including shipping is more than enough to pimp your MOC. If you are in the US send me a PM with what you need and I will get you some bricks for cheap. The shape is looking really nice. It does need some touch ups though. Details will help but I think like Phes a few brisks here and there would be enough to give it the proper look. MOC on! Quote
Captain Ironhook Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 There needs to be something done with the roof for this fort is reminding me of a dolls house. It needs to have more fortifcations if that is such a word. I think the up down brick effect of the Imperial Guard sets would take the doll house image away from it. Quote
gui45 Posted July 11, 2006 Author Posted July 11, 2006 I guess I could add some yellow bricks, as for the smiling guards, to me it embodies perfectly what Lego is about, I personnally don't like those new minifigs with aggressive faces, but that's just my opinion, I guess I'm an old school builder (by the way I don't use and I don't own the new pieces and the new colors from the last 10 years.) The "up down" brick effect is known as "crenelation" the down areas are called "crenels" and the up areas are called "merlons". Here's a helpful image I've just found: Quote
Darth_Ewok Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 I like it! It looks like a few other forts I've seen in my travels on the internet! It needs more details though. The flag needs to be moved out a bit and possibly a wall added on top with a cannon to defend the fort. The guards are just fine, I don't really care about the faces and sometimes prefer the old ones :-) You could also use a dock or some detail nearby the fort for scenery (a desert island with palm trees perhaps?) Governor Mister Phes Posted July 12, 2006 Governor Posted July 12, 2006 Darth Ewok, you don't happen to recall the links or keywords that lead to your discovery of these similiar forts by any chance? The Pirate LEGO Forum has absorb all Pirate MOCs from everywhere - if possible! Quote

The Pirate LEGO Forum has absorb all Pirate MOCs from everywhere - if possible! I'm mostly talking about official Lego pirate sets with a similar feel to this MOC. I have seen a few forts on this forum, try searching it :-) P.S. I have a pirate avatar now! Look closely *sweet* Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted July 12, 2006 Governor Posted July 12, 2006 I don't need to search this forum because I know exactly which forts are posted here. I thought you meant forts outside of this forum and that's why I wanted to know where to find them - so they can become part of this forum! Quote
Darth_Ewok Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 Ah, I see. I'll keep an eye out for any *sweet* Quote
