Pulp Detective Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 There has not even been A trailer yet for the movie. No toys licensing has been announced for the movie anywhere. My point exactly. It's too early to make conclusions. Quote
Captain Pirate Man Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 (edited) I feel like lego NEEDS to make sets for this movie. Obviously Lego will be fine if they dont, but it's a new POTC film, not to mention the success of the last sets, plus Lego is historically known for there pirate based sets. It will just feel like a massive dropping of the ball without them. Not to mention the clearly good terms Lego is in with Disney at the moment, I just can't see any good reason to NOT make sets. I understand that themes like Ninjago and Nexo Knights might be pretty profitable for Lego because they are 100% in house themes. But having said that, with no LOTR, POTC, Pirates, and Castle themes going right now Lego just feels very thin imo. I understand they have Star Wars, but they have had Star Wars for forever and a day. They also have both Marvel and DC super hero's, which again are pretty big franchises. But still even with all of those, I still feel like Lego is lacking 1 more BIG theme. POTC should and WOULD be that theme, filling the gap that LOTR left imo. I get that times have changed, and Pirates and Castle would not be as popular today as they once were, but LOTR and POTC were pretty damn popular. I know folks on here like to talk about LOTR not selling as good as expected, but I know a lot of kids that lost interest in Lego once the LOTR theme ended. (I have an 11 year old daughter with quite a few friends). Which ALL of them pretty much dropped Lego once the LOTR and Hobbit sets stopped. As for POTC, all you have to do is go YouTube and see the amount of Lego POTC related videos are on there. That theme was FAR more popular than the 2015 Pirates, and far more popular than many of us older fans realize. IMO all 4 of these themes should be evergreen, but maybe rotate them every year to keep interest. 2017 should be POTC, maybe do a Castle theme in 2018, then a Pirates theme in 2019, then another LOTR run in 2020. Then rotate again. Keep these themes flowing, even if no new films are out, still plenty of sets that could be made. Rant over Edited September 4, 2016 by Captain Pirate Man Quote

CM4Sci Posted September 6, 2016 Posted September 6, 2016 Rumor has it that there is a new $200-$250 D2C Pirate Ship coming out next year. http://www.thebrickfan.com/lego-pirates-of-the-caribbean-dead-men-tell-no-tales-rumored-set-for-2017/ Quote
Dannylonglegs Posted September 6, 2016 Posted September 6, 2016 (edited) That is a large amount of money. I do not have that kind of money. It'll have to be pretty flawless if I'm going to fork over that much dosh for it! (although considering the price there's a very good chance that it will be...) On the otherhand, one set may be a good sign that others could be on their way. I certainly hope that Lego produces more PotC sets! I've been pretty bummed by this thread so far, since it's all been baseless speculation, but this rumour has some awesome potential! can't wait to see more! (And I guess this means I won't have to simply "mark forum read" when I see new posts on this thread! ) ~Insectoid Aristocrat Edited September 7, 2016 by Dannylonglegs Quote
Captain Pirate Man Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 That would be GREAT news, let's hope it's true. $250 for a ship means it will be a beauty and HUGE. Bigger than the IFS. Quote
azog Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 OMG!!! If this is true I am going to cry with excitement!!!! Quick question though, doesn't most themes start with the rumor of the biggest set in the wave? Another words, most themes (The Hobbit, Harry Potter and so forth) share the big set before the others? Quote
Pulp Detective Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 It's good to finally hear some news.We don't know just yet if this is going to be the only set or there will be more of them. But if this is indeed the only set I'm definitely going to buy,no matter the price. Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 Sounds great I guess it'll be Salazar's ship since we already got the Black Pearl As long as we get all of the main characters (which shouldn't be impossible thanks to TLG not being afraid of introducing new moulds in D2C sets anymore), I don't mind it's only one set instead of an entire wave of sets. Maybe this is a new trend Quote
Captain Becker Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 Well, if this is true, and the ship does come out and turns out to be worth the price.... I hope my wallet forgives me this. Quote
Pulp Detective Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 I don't mind it's only one set instead of an entire wave of sets. Maybe this is a new trend God I hope not. It's not like everyone can afford those D2C sets. Quote
Captain Pirate Man Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 I'll just be happy to be getting something. Quote
Pulp Detective Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 If they are making a D2C set then they are definitely making normal sets for the movie. I mean why the hell wouldn't they??This may very well be the last movie to the franchise so they might as well go all out. Quote

I mean why the hell wouldn't they??This may very well be the last movie to the franchise so they might as well go all out. I hope it's not the last movie. Even if they move on from Jack Sparrow, I wouldn't mind them continuing because it's the only pirates film series around. While I fully admit these films have flaws, it's better than nothing imo, which is what we will have without POTC. As for the Lego line, it would seem logical that other sets would come as well, besides the big one. But my counter point to that is the the BIG sets seem to be aimed more towards AFOLS. So maybe this is Lego hearing us older Pirate fans, and this is their compromise? To be honest with you, I would be ok if this is HOW Lego treated us older fans going forward, instead of a full wave, we get one big set from a classic theme every year. That would be great IMO. Sure I would love to get a full POTC wave, but one set is better than nothing, especially if it's a great set. Quality over quantity is a pretty good compromise imo. Quote
Pulp Detective Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 (edited) Well as I said earlier not everyone can afford a set that costs 250$.I have never bought a set with this kind price. I will definitely buy it if it's the only one that Lego gives us but it would be a pity not to give us more. I mean give a couple of sets for the kids and then give the AFOLs that crazy big expensive set. But it's better to wait for more info to come into the light. Edited September 7, 2016 by LOTR34 Quote
froggy95 Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 Thank the Lord!!! Let us assume it'll be a summer set. That gives everyone almost a year to start saving now. Surely $20 a month (+/-) won't break everyone's bank. I'm hoping that it'll be a UCS Black Pearl. Lego could REALLY make this an awesome set. I'd also settle for a Flying Dutchman though. Looking forward to a confirmation and more info. Quote
Boromir Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 Well, I guess it's too early to start making assumptions, but I hope this rumor is true and we get a spectacular pirate ship. That could be a collector's item for sure. Quote
azog Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 It has to be the Black Pearl! My only other guesses would be Captain Salazar's ship. But what type of kid wants to own that one? Lego usually never does huge bases so that would also be eliminated. I am reeaaallllyyyyy hoping its the Black Pearl!!!! Quote

I'm pumped for your man cause I know you were one of the few desperately hoping for a POTC line from previous posts. I'm in the same boat. Can't wait for a return to this awesome line Quote
Ookami Posted September 8, 2016 Posted September 8, 2016 Or maybe PotC wave is like Ghostbusters one - I mean, only 1 D2C set and probably one common set with all the neccessary characters? If this so, I assume D2C being Flying Dutchman, while the other set is based on the new movie and represents Salazar's ship. Quote
ElectroDiva Posted September 8, 2016 Posted September 8, 2016 Really hope this is the Flying Dutchman Wasn't there a lego ideas version of that which got turned down fairly recently? Could it be because they already had something similar in the works (as with the GB HQ)? $250 (probably D2C) seems to be a bit of a coincidence... Quote

I'm in the same boat. Can't wait for a return to this awesome line Yea I'm really glad that we finally have some solid info. Here's hoping we get more than one set.But I might as well start saving money from now.And I've been thinking 250$ for one ship is too much don't you guys think??I bet the set will contain more than a ship, like a building or something else. For example the Imperial Flagship from 2010 cost around 180$.I can't imagine the new ship will be bigger than that and I don't want to think that Lego will charge 250$ for a ship of the same size. Quote
Legoman123 Posted September 8, 2016 Posted September 8, 2016 It's either going to be the Black Pearl or The Flying Dutchman in my opinion. It could possibly be a new ship though or the Queen Ann's revenge. Quote
