richthelegodude Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 Hi everyone, Just wondering if there is any Futuron fans about on here? Very rarely see Futuron mentioned so far on here . As a kid I had a leaflet with the Futuron Monorail (transport base 6990) going around a Mega Core magnatizer 6989 (I know this is not Futuron but its still an ace set!). Unfortunately by the time I wanted the monorail, it had already gone out of the shops. Finally got one of these monorails a couple of years ago, catching up on some of the sets i missed - it really is a great set. Quote
Klay Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 Futuron was before my time, but I always love finding Futuron elements in my brother's old LEGO bins. Quote
TheWarden Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 Well, there are certainly some Futuron fans on Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/groups/neofuturon/ Some Futuron is on my "To-MOC" list, but it'll be a while... Quote
KDog Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 I've been fascinated with it since I was a kid, since it seemed like an even cooler version of Classic Space. I think Futuron had the best uniforms of any Space theme. Quote
Flare Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 Futuron is awesome... unfortunately I own no sets though Quote
Plastic Nurak Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 I desperately wanted the monorail ! Quote
richthelegodude Posted January 11, 2011 Author Posted January 11, 2011 I only have the monorail and a few small sets, but I am hoping to build on that. I also think the Futuron minifigs look the best Quote
Praetorian Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 I'm a fan of Futuron as the series followed on from Classic Space (which is my favourite series of all). I have MISB copies of most of the Futuron sets, including the 6990 Monorail Quote
charlieboy Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 (edited) A misb 6990!! You lucky so and so! I had and still have many of the sets when i was a boy, never had the monorail sadly. Its defo a set thats on my ever expanding wants list! Edited January 11, 2011 by charlieboy Quote
brickmack Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 I like futuron a lot, lots of great parts and cool set designs, and they have some of my favorite minifig designs of any space theme. Sadly, I don't have any sets (yet ) Quote
KurttKrueger Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 I loved/love Futuron. I've been working on an update for them on and off for the last year (work and family life permitting). See my sig for a taster :D With the release of series 3 minifigures, I want to start on a revamped Blacktron theme now :D Quote
Captain Blockbeard Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 Futuron is probably among the first Lego themes for which I collected quite a few sets. I had many of the small and medium sets but never the monorail. My only experience with the monorail was seeing it set up in my neighbor's basement, and indeed, it was an impressive set. My personal favorites from Futuron were 6953 Cosmic Laser Launcher and 6848 Strategic Pursuer. So, to answer your question, yes there are Futuron fans still around. Quote
CP5670 Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 I'm certainly a Futuron fan. It was quite a large theme, but still managed to have uniformly good sets across the whole theme. I have most of the larger sets but not that many of the smaller ones. The distinction between classic space and Futuron was pretty blurry. The initial Futuron sets weren't actually marketed as a separate theme, and the only real difference between them and the final wave of classic space sets was the minifigs. A misb 6990!! You lucky so and so! I had and still have many of the sets when i was a boy, never had the monorail sadly. Its defo a set thats on my ever expanding wants list! I've got an extra one of those too. I didn't really need it but found a good price at one point, and plan to use it to expand my existing monorail setup. Quote
richthelegodude Posted January 13, 2011 Author Posted January 13, 2011 I wish to do some Futuron MOC's in the future (I can forsee another BL order on the horizon...). Not strictly futuron but I do remember an Ice planet set (I think anyway) in the local toy shop as a kid in the early nineties. I'm sure it came with a tray to freeze a mini fig - is my memory correct or have I dreampt this up ? Quote
manuelexar Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 I've got a lot of minifigs and a couple of sets...but I want the monorail :( Quote
benhead Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 I had one of those mini catalogs too,I used to lay in bed and dream about owning the futuron train. It was a pity that my interests were changing alot, from age 10 to 14,my desire to collect lego died in the teen years(ya know, thats when you discover girls).I missed getting most of the Blacktron 1,space police 1,Futuron sets. Quote
richthelegodude Posted January 18, 2011 Author Posted January 18, 2011 (edited) We all go through our dark ages at one point I think, thankfully ebay and bricklink exist to catch up on sets we missed Edited January 18, 2011 by richthelegodude Quote
vorwand13 Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 Futuron for the win! Definately in my top favorites. :) Quote
snefroe Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 well, futuron rocked my fairly small space world! these white space ships looked incredibly beautiful and innovative, after so many years of classic grey-blue ships... the space dudes were also veeeery nice, not to mention the monorail and trans-blue canopies. Futuron simply reached a higher level of sophistication and design than everything before. Quote
Deeks Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 Yeah I was all over the Futuron stuff too. I got the monorail for Christmas. It was a huge surprise. It was in the Zeller (Canadian dept store) rewards catalogue and my mom saved up all her points to get it for me. I was super excited and spent all day putting it together and played with it for hours upon hours. I picked up most of the rest of the Futuron stuff in the couple years following. Even as I collected Space Police, M:Tron and Blacktron, Futuron was always the centre of my collection. Quote
1980-Something-Space-Guy Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 I only own one Futuron set (and didn't own any about one month ago), but it's great. I like the theme's designs, but I guess I'm not such a big fan of the theme because for me it's like Classic Space, just not as good. However, its designs had a high quality that we are yet to see come back to current Space themes. Quote
Scorpion Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 Here! They were my very first space sets, and I loved them! I think the name pretty much sums up what it was all about! Quote
brickmack Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 Yea, I'm still a bit of a Futuron fan also. The distinction between classic space and Futuron was pretty blurry. I personally tend to think of most of the "good guys" as being the same faction, since they all seem to have the same or close to the same logo (Classic Space, Futuron, Ice Planet, Mars Mission astronauts, etc). Then they would just be different branches of the same group, perhaps from the United Earth or whatever they have in the Space time. Quote
SpacePolice89 Posted September 13, 2023 Posted September 13, 2023 Sorry that I'm extremely late to this discussion. I recently joined Eurobricks and I'm a huge fan of Futuron. Do you guys know why some Futuron sets were released only in North America? These three sets were NA only: https://brickset.com/sets/1620-1/Astro-Dart https://brickset.com/sets/1621-1/Lunar-MPV-Vehicle https://brickset.com/sets/1974-4/Star-Quest When I was younger I didn't know that these sets even existed but since I discovered Bricklink I've acquired all of them.
