Norro Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 Hey all, Check out this brilliant expansion of the pirate theme over on Lugnet. God Bless, Nathan Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted May 20, 2006 Governor Posted May 20, 2006 What do you mean by "A brilliant expansion of the pirate theme", Mr Norro? Quote
Evil Willy Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 I cant see any of the links Mr.Norro. But ehh it might be because im on a laptop. Ill take a look later. Quote
Norro Posted May 20, 2006 Author Posted May 20, 2006 What do you mean by "A brilliant expansion of the pirate theme", Mr Norro? When Brickshelf is back up you'll see what I mean... It is a more modern pirate hideaway but has a lot of the spirit of a lego pirate set.... God Bless, Nathan Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted May 20, 2006 Governor Posted May 20, 2006 I've already had a look at the pictures and my initial response was "this MOC is too meaty to be an official LEGO Pirate set". When the Brickshlef Gallery returns I'll examine it greater death, but for now I suppose we must wait. Quote
eNiGMa Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 I said it on CC and I'll say it again--this MOC puts me in the mood to play Legend of Zelda: Windwaker. What I like most about it is the use of dark-colored pieces, while still pulling off the effect of a bright MOC. The water looks good, too. Quote
Scnicker Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 Although it's a well built MOC, it doesn't remind of Pirates to be honest. Maybe it's the lack of a palm tree, maybe the colors are too dark, I don't know, but something there doesn't add up to make it piratey for me. The MOC is quilte good, don't get me wrong, but not piratey enough for me. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted May 20, 2006 Governor Posted May 20, 2006 Ok, lets pull this MOC into the Eurobricks world... Mr eNiGMa do you happen to have a screen capture from that Legend of Zelda game so we can compare? Quote
eNiGMa Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 Mr eNiGMa do you happen to have a screen capture from that Legend of Zelda game so we can compare? Here's what Google found for me just now. ;-) http://cache.kotaku.com/gaming/TheLegendOf...indWaker_01.jpg http://www.take2.co.za/covers/ss/big/zelda...dwaker_gc_1.jpg http://www.fileshack.com/finclude/images/zeldamovie001.jpg Quote
Evil Willy Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 Reminds me of windwaker too! Heh..I dont really like it either. Its sortof a slopy build, well no..The build is good but the overall feel doesnt look like pirates to me. I look the little shack at the bottom and thats about it. Its a nice build dont get me wrong, but doesnt look like something pirates would use. Thanks for sharing though Norro. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted May 20, 2006 Governor Posted May 20, 2006 I'm not really getting a sense of that Legend of Zelda game through the pictures, I guess I'd have to play it to see exactly what you mean. Thank you for providing the images Mr eNiGMa! I'm with the camp who think this MOC doesn't have the feel of the old pirate sets, however, parts of it may be an interesting new direction for a future SYSTEM Pirates theme. Like this section for example: Quote
Sir Dillon Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 Very neat! I really like the look of it on the whole, especially the top part. I agree it doesn't look all that much like the classic pirate sets, but I don't think it's supposed to. They're more like modern pirates. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted May 20, 2006 Governor Posted May 20, 2006 The whole "this looks like classic pirate sets" has been taken out of context. I don't think Mr Norro meant precisely that, rather he meant this could be a new direction for a pirate theme - is that correct Mr Norro or have a misinterpreted? Anyway, even though it isn't a historic Pirate MOC it sure looks a lot better than The LEGO Company's last offering of those hideous 4+ Pirate sets. Quote

Jacob C. Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 Check out this brilliant expansion of the pirate theme over on Lugnet. Very nice! It looks like a mid 1800's pirate moc; well past the golden years of piracy! I love the huge rock structure with the stone building + timber works on top of it. It looks perfect for a pirate moc. It would only take a little bit of work to transform this into a 1600 or 1700's style pirate moc. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted May 20, 2006 Governor Posted May 20, 2006 "In the surviving tower it was installed a roof and a causeway for access the airships. They equip the ruins of the second tower with a cannon and aerial pier for the airships." Those sentences kinda spoil it for me as it brings the MOC right into the present day. I like my priates to be historical you see. Quote

Governor Mister Phes Posted May 21, 2006 Governor Posted May 21, 2006 Excellent! We've got our facts straight! Even though this drastically better than anything that appeared in 4+ Pirates its still not to my liking as its brought into the modern day, but like Jacob C it would only require a few modifications to get it in the correct era. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted May 21, 2006 Governor Posted May 21, 2006 It seems most of us agree this is lacking a piratical atmosphere, but why is that exactly? Also what do we think this MOC needs to create a better "pirate feeling" to it? Someone suggested palm trees, what else? Quote
Kikuichimonji Posted May 21, 2006 Posted May 21, 2006 I said it on CC and I'll say it again--this MOC puts me in the mood to play Legend of Zelda: Windwaker. Heh, so true! It really has that 'Windfall Island' feel to it. The 'broken bridge' looks pretty cool and seems to have some very nice construction too. I don't like the Western guns in this MOC though. Quote
LBaixinho Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 Hi Thanks to all for the comments. I never thought about making of this MOC a construction of pirates as the LEGO theme. This construction is near steampunk. By the way, I place the OutroMundo series (of which this MOC is part) in the beginning of s Quote
