The Crazy One Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 Thank you so kuch Hinckly for that great revew. I reckon ill pick this figure first because of the ginger hair. I havent managed to get that piece yet and I love it. Quote
CMP Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 Honestly, I disagree. Ball joints are much more articulated than those click joints. You have a lot more ease with moving it around, and it looks much more natural than it would with click joints. And you can't really blame them for the small alter; they could've really cheaped out and put nothing else in. Quote
BearHeart Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 Great Review. I'm probably going to skip this particular set myself. Not enough interest in it for the price. I might pick it up if it goes on sale and I have extra LEGO money laying around. Quote
Mrlegoninja Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 Thanks for this great review! This set doesn't excite me like the rest, but I will pick it up anyway just to have the entire collection. Quote
Cpt. Dan Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 I love all of these sets but I went to my local TRU today and they didn't have them yet. I was pretty disappointed because when I go home for Thanksgiving I am not sure I want to go out on Black Friday. For some reason, I think this is the best line Lego has come out with for a long time. It has a nice mix of nostalgia of old and style of new. I have to get these soon! Quote
Still Raindrop Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 (edited) Thanks for the review! I really like that Jeep, as well as the minifigures. The girl is great, and I really like Jake Raines. You've mentioned it twice, but I don't really see how he looks like Elvis. I mean, he has sideburns, but that's about it. Edited November 23, 2010 by Mariko Quote
Blackknight112 Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 Nice review, and a really nice set Quote
Wout Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 Thank you for the nice review Hinckly! What a great female minifig with her cute freckles. Pity I don't like the big snake which is +/- 65% of this set. Maybe she will come in another set in the second half of next year. Quote
CMP Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 I dunno. Isn't every adventurer having a fedora getting a bit old? Quote
Walter Kovacs Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 Nice review, Hinck. The articulation of the snake is a turn off for me, but my son went absolutely ga-ga over the frontpage picture, so I guess he's going to end up with it at some point. The set definitely looks cool. Quote
buddy Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 A great review for a great set! It's good that 1 x 2 tiles are now available in Dark Orange. Well done on the review, Hinckley. ~buddy~ Quote
prateek Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 (edited) Boo! Worst PQ set ever!!! I like the female fig and the car, but that's it. To the parts bin! Just a side note, this car is inaccurate, considering Egypt has Left hand drive cars Edited November 24, 2010 by prateek Quote
indyman09 Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 Thanks for the great review! I'm still doubting wether to buy this or not.. Quote
DJ Force Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 Thanks for the review, Hinckley! I love the female minifig. There´s just something about redheads that turns me on Apart from that, the set hasn´t much value for me. Poor design, only a handful of useful generic parts and a pricepoint that´s just ridiculous. Seriously! $30 for 213 pieces? When built, it looks rather like a $20 set, and even for that it would be a little bit overpriced. I voted below average. Quote
Arigomi Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 I suspect the design was aimed more towards making the cobra swooshable than poseable for pictures. The price of this set is making me once again question how much this theme will cost overall. Seeing that mummy juggle snakes reminds me of Serpentor from G.I. Joe and the snakes he throws like javelins. Quote
SpiderSpaceman Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 Nice review! It should be noted that the socket joints are a new style (yes, a third one) that does not taper the way the previous two styles did. We got a preview of this new style when LDD 4.0 was released, but this is the first time seeing it in an actual set. Here's a comparison between the new piece (92013) and the previous version (62712). The new joint is based on the type from the Ben 10 action figure sets, which is supposedly more resistant to breakage than previous styles of socket-joint-- we'll see if that holds true! yeah that may definitely make it worth getting for me. I couldn't tell there were ball sockets in this set until the review (btw thanks for the great review, Hinkley) side note - LDD factory mode shows the new sockets but i don't trust that they won't mix in the old till they've run out, and I don't need any more that are gonna crack on me in the first week of use Quote
captain crossbricks Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 There goes my wallet again! This set is really cool! I really like the car and the new minifigures! Great review Hinckley! Quote
Ravenclaw2010 Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 I don't care much for the snake, but I love everything else. I really like the female figure, especially the new hair. Great review! Quote
simonjedi Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 This set reminds me of the Red Moon Mystery game for some reason. It's a pretty nice set though. Thanks for the review. Quote

The new joint is based on the type from the Ben 10 action figure sets, which is supposedly more resistant to breakage than previous styles of socket-joint-- we'll see if that holds true! The new ball cups are surely more resistant to breaking. They will NOT break, and that says a lot because moc'ers of Bionicle have rarely used the term "Not break" to describe the behavior of older types of ball cups. The problem with the flimsy snake is due to the fact that the ball cups have lover friction than what they used to have. That came together with the not-break solution. The friction in the ball/ball-cup connection is maybe challenged a bit too much by the design of this set. It's a question of what the consumer expect. Maybe most kids will not see it as too flimsy. I sure do not hope they will, and I think Hinckley's problem with posing the snake might also be a problem with balancing the structure than just the friction being too low to carry the weight of the snake. But too be honest I haven't built this set. yeah that may definitely make it worth getting for me. I couldn't tell there were ball sockets in this set until the review (btw thanks for the great review, Hinkley) side note - LDD factory mode shows the new sockets but i don't trust that they won't mix in the old till they've run out, and I don't need any more that are gonna crack on me in the first week of use The new ball cup design, used on all the new Hero Factory parts but also this 2x2 brick with ball cup, has resulted in all new part design numbers, so I would be VERY surprised of an old style of ball cup would mix into this 2011 set. It should not be possible. Erland, Part Design Edited November 24, 2010 by Front Quote
Rumble Strike Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 Great review as always. From the build pics I preferred the look of the snake when the hood wasn't attached. It looks a bit goofy with that giant hood. I think this was a good concept but the execution was slightly off. Quote

Leo-J Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 Hilarious writeup! I like the male and female torsos. Can be used for many themes. Quote
