gingerling1980 Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 I've now completed Cafe Corner, Fire Station, Grocers and Emporium. So now I want to make my own buildings. Am I best off buy individual bricks? Or is it more cost affective to buy sets? Quote

This is coming from someone who never keeps her sets intact for very long, but breaks them for parts. Quote
baazzaa Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 buy sets if they are on sale, otherwise use BrickLink to buy the parts you need. otherwise you will end up with to many not needed elements, at lest if you are buying reduced sets, you end up paying cheaper. to the parts bins lego troopers! barry over and out 10-4! If cost is an issue, then take the modular houses apart! Quote

I believe what you would like to do is create a neighborhood of modular buildings right? If that's what you want, then keep your modulars, design your own building in LDD, then go buy the individual parts and pieces from BL. That's the most cost-efficient way IMO, that's what I do and works very well for me. Quote
streifen Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 I would think the best way to do MOC for modular houses is to get creator houses (for quantities of bricks in the same colour) and buckets of bricks. for more specialised parts, get from shops/bricklink/whereever. Keep your modular houses. taking them out just does seem right. my 2cts Quote

You will get tons of useful parts from them. They are also very cheap compare to city sets. I prefer using real bricks in the designing process than using the LDD. It can also cost you a lot of money if you purchase individual bricks from Lego.com or brick link. It's likely that you have to buy from many different sellers too. Quote

Am I best off buy individual bricks? Or is it more cost affective to buy sets? It depends a lot what you wish to build. If you want to build to the same scale and detail as the modular houses, you will need about between 2000 and 3000 bricks. If you want to use similar colors as the modulars, there are very few sets at a lower price per brick than the current modular sets, though the creator houses come close. If you don't mind using used bricks in common colours like white or red, you might be able to find them cheaper on bricklink. Quote
