wolfwing Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 Heh I havn't been playing in ages, but with my nephew getting into lego miners and lego Starwars has got me pulling out my old stuff and wanting to collect again, also remembering just how few pieces I had for many of the things I wanted to make. Are there any suggestions for where to buy online, or what to buy? I've been thinking of ebay bulk buys like 1 pound for 6$'s + S&H that seems to be popular right now, just get a varity and collection of lego as a base to build stuff then worry about particular pieces, and colours and themes later. Though the set themes I have been interested in collecting are. Cowboy/indian sets Castle sets classic, and classic like space sets And maybe some lego towns, or at least the ability to get stuff to make a decent sized lego city. The sets I have thought about buying were the Viking fortress because I liked how it looks and the theme, and the medevil villedge big set. Quote
sweener Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 Welcome back wolfwing! This thread should help get you started: How to start building up a brick collection best? The Medieval Market Village has a lot of great elements, you won't regret it. Quote
Vindicare Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 Well, for sets, obviously your best bet is a local toy store, or better yet...a LEGO store. For just bricks to build whatever your mind comes up with. Bulk bricks like you mentioned would be the way to go. Which, can also be obtained I understand at your local LEGO store. Quote
LegoBuilder Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 Hi WolfWing, I also come to collecting Lego recently. I had brought a bucket which have 1600 pieces inside. I search on Lego store and it is release only in UK recently. I am not too sure on when US will have it. The Bucket number is 5512. Hope it help. Quote

Thanks though I will see if we have that # here. Quote

As others have pointed out, Bricklink.com is the way to get your sets. If you use their Catalog function, you'll see many sets in the various "themes" you mentioned. Then, if you click on a set, you will see vendors worldwide who are selling that set. Quote
Duke Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 (edited) Bricklink is great for ordering specific parts but i'd really recommend just getting some sets that you think look interesting and building up your collection like that. It gives you the pleasure of making a set, plus associated minifigs (always useful) and in no time you'll find you've got quite a good collection of parts. If you have a look through peeron at the sets available and make yourself a short list then head over to ebay you'll find most of them crop up on a weekly basis. If you have a bit of time and don't mind waiting then you can monitor the prices for a few days and keep checking/bidding on things until you find a bargain as you almost always can. wolfwing Posted September 6, 2010 Author Posted September 6, 2010 I have a couple of sets in mind, one for just interesting, and another for pieces. Interesting is viking fortress, other for pieces and theme is midevil villadge. Quote
wolfwing Posted September 8, 2010 Author Posted September 8, 2010 Update I got my first purchase, a 1 gallon bag of black lego, came with 3 minifigs, a car racer, Indiana jones with glasses*?* and what looks like a Nazi figurine. Only 4 non lego, megablocks and a tyco, good selection of universal, specialized and semi. Two I'm not familuar with they are big black walls with bars across them, duplo? Or some heavily specialized pieces from a set? Quote
TheWarden Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 ... Only 4 non lego, megablocks and a tyco... Proceed directly to your trash can. Deposit non-LEGO. Two I'm not familuar with they are big black walls with bars across them, duplo? Or some heavily specialized pieces from a set? Hard to say. Sounds like it could be a castle gate piece. If they say LEGO, they are, or you can post a picture here. Quote
wolfwing Posted September 9, 2010 Author Posted September 9, 2010 Ahhh it's 4071 http://media.peeron.com/pics/inv/custpics/4071.jpg *checked the piece itself for it's #* appears to be a oversized door, it's 2X6X7 Why I was wondering if it was something else since it's pretty big for minifig size. Goes with barred inset 4611. Quote
Peppermint_M Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 Another good way to build up a collection is to check sales stores that sell stock at reduced prices, although most sets that turn up there were unpopular themes, they still have bricks, figures and other elements. When cash flow was an issue for me, I managed to get some really nice Knights Kingdon 2 sets for half the price, and a selection of Exo Force sets on another visit. Here's a tip for bulk buys from people, especialy if you do it often: Clone brands can be easily sorted out and saved in another box. When you have a box load, donate them somewhere. Plastic in the "garbage" goes to landfill and takes centuries to breakdown, thus polluting the environment. Plastic bricks that are donated can bring joy to the less forunate and if given to a charity shop, raise money for a worthy cause. My own collection serves as "distraction" from my Lego, when my younger siblings have friends over, or my parents guests have a small child. They play with the clone brands and do not disrupt my nicely sorted collection. Quote
