Alasdair Ryan Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 Oh,it's still a good idea to use the right plug end for the right thing anyway. Quote
davidmull Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 Why does the charger not come with the batterie box that doesn't make sense? I'm thinking of doing the ultimate 8043 too, do u need to build the model from scratch to do these mods? Quote
sapo117 Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 @ sapo117: This Eurobricks topic talked about possible third-party Transformer for the 8878 Lego Power Functions Rechargeable Battery Box. The problem is that the 8878 is designed for 10V input (which is unusual for Transformers). Thanks DLuders, got your point, I will definetly go for 8878 Sapo117, the cheapest 8878 in Europe can be bought at WASSERMAN SHOP, a Czech Bricklink shop. I've ordered a few from him already so I can vouch for his reliability (he also has 1800+ positive feedback without a single neutral or negative). he sells them for 49.99$ (roughly 38€). 8878 are NEVER sold with the adapter, you'll have to buy that one separately. The cheapest new on Bricklink in Europe is 17.95€ from a shop called electricBricks. If you are going to order an 8878 via Wasserman shop though, I suggest you also buy the transformer there as it will save you on shipping. He's selling them for 25$ (roughly 19€). I wanted a few of them and was also put of by the official price LEGO has set for them; 60€ for 1 or (via Bricklink) 38€ for 1 is a huge difference... PS: I'm not affiliated with this shop at all, just stating the facts here Just before I read this topic I was going to place the order right to Wasserman. I always have one trouble when I key in the order... I put some stuff in the Cart....then I reconnect after 2 or 3 hr to complete the order and the cart is empty...this is very annoying , is there any way to avoid the cart is cancelled? Is there any regulation from Bricklinks about the duration of cart? Why does the charger not come with the batterie box that doesn't make sense? I'm thinking of doing the ultimate 8043 too, do u need to build the model from scratch to do these mods? I also tought the same thing. Probably they make it for those people they need to have more then 1 battery box in their sets and they are OK with only 1 charger, so they can save 25$ for each battery box. Regarding the Ultimate 8043, YES, I saw in the instruction file somne mods already since the first page, so I will build it from the scratch. If my experience succesfull I will probably try the Zorex too Quote
davidmull Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 (edited) I don't seem to be able to download instructions on iPad :( Got it done :) Edited January 4, 2013 by davidmull Quote

Yep, though if you have the regular 8043 already built you can 'salvage' some parts, such as the lower boom and the carriage base. Quote

At times it's indeed quite difficult to discern what parts go where, use your common sense as well :) Let me know when you get stuck, I might be able to help you out. Theo van Vroenhoven Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 It's in 42004. The smallest set it is in is the 8271 http://rebrickable.com/sets/8271-1/wheel-loader-construction-2007 Quote
jantjeuh Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 True, but that set isn't exactly 'current' ;-) Quote
sapo117 Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 Finally I ordered all the necessary on Bricklink...just waiting for my orders to arrive. WASSERMAN shop very good price for 8878 and charger to be in europe.... I hope now I can understand the instructions Quote
davidmull Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 I find the instructions not that easy to follow but ill give it a go in a few weeks :) I think u have to keep referring back to the book for lots of stages. Quote
gerger Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 (edited) Sorry for my poor english as I am non-english speaker. I built my 8043 set in early 2011 and had been putting it onto shelf, until I found recently that the two actuators supporting the boom were getting very weak even with new batteries installed. Inspired by the MOC from this post but without too many extra parts from my own, eg, the expensive 8878 rechargeable battery, I tried to pack the default AA batteries box with 6 motors plus some extra work around for more space to align the IR receivers, etc.. it's a great set to play with and her are some overview. upper Large motors x2 (for arm, boom) to give spaces to accommodate three IR receivers on the right ( XL motor in the middle may also fit for the boom but it's slow..) lower motors x 4(for L+R travel, swing and bucket) to fully utilize the chassis width swing gears set relocate from right to the left; AA battery box at the back right side mainly for cables *images links are fixed. Alasdair Ryan Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 Very good mod,and welcome the Eurobricks. Quote
sapo117 Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 Ok, to make a good mod, everything need to be organized well. Waiting my parts from BL now....can't wait! Quote
sapo117 Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 Yesterday I received the first part of the brick I ordered on Bricklink ( that is everything except XL Motor, PF lights, extension wire and 8878 battery pack ) Very easy to recognize that the gearing is more complex. I almost arrived the start of boom part...then my eyes almost shutting down... I will continue next monday! Quote

Is there any regulation from Bricklinks about the duration of cart? Hey sapo, the carts that you fill in Bricklink are saved on the client side in your current session. Your session duration is pretty long, as long as you don't close your browser. The second you close your browser, your carts will all be empty and you will have to start again. This is due to how Bricklink is coded. As far as I know, they have started thinking (and maybe even coding, but I don't think so) about Bricklink 2.0. I hope they implement server-side carts in the new version too, but we will have to wait and see until it goes live ... Quote

I have 8043 and want to do this mod, I have some parts but not 100% sure what I need! Do u find the instructions hard? Do u have to refer to the original books for stages? Quote
jantjeuh Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 Do u have to refer to the original books for stages? Yep, you need the original books for some steps. Quote
davidmull Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 Yep, you need the original books for some steps. Was the build easy or difficult? Quote
jantjeuh Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 Was the build easy or difficult? Medium difficulty I'd say. Enjoyable, but some steps could've used more clarification (for instance, construction of the dipper). Quote
davidmull Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 Has anyone a simple extra parts required list for this as rebrickable is confusing. I have 8043 just want to know extra parts needed as I have some. Quote
