squidman85 Posted October 21, 2010 Posted October 21, 2010 Nuckal ATV , When Googling Nuckal, I came across a link to Brickipedia which said (s?)he's part of the NinjaGo line. And when I Google ATV it gives me all-terrain vehicle for the definition, I knew Ninjas had some pretty advanced technology for their time, but I never imagined. With all this advanced technology, I can't help but wonder if set temple fire will include a fire truck to help put the temple fire out, when the automatic sprinkler systems fail. And the Ninjas are forced to make an emergency call to the fire department from their Iphones. Nuckal is a skeleton. It will be skeleton quad. Quote
Delta 38 Posted October 21, 2010 Posted October 21, 2010 It's the set number. Must've gotten into the set name by mistake somehow. Oh, wait, I didn't think it was a mistake. That's what I was confused about. That might be interesting too depending on size and minifigs. At this rate, it looks like I will get the ice dragon, so the earth dragon might be a good counterpart. I think why it says "defending" is because dragons appear to be the allies of ninjas in this theme. I don't really see how they need to be defended, though, unless there's some large enemy vehicle attacking it. Quote
Milargo Posted October 21, 2010 Posted October 21, 2010 (edited) OK, so let's review what this theme is going to include: Trading Cards with spinning tops System sets A boardgame A Brickmaster book A movie A website, possibly with more videos and games Lego sure doesn't spare any expense to market this theme. What's next? NinjaGo: The Videogame? NinjaGo backpacks? NinjaGo pajamas? Considering some of Legos other themes, I think you can throw in some NinjaGo pens, NinjaGo condiment containers, R U NinjaGo Magic Eight Ball and the foam NinjaGo swords and shields and a NinjaGo umbrella. NinjaGo magnets, NinjaGo keychains, "I NinjaGo" T-shirts, NinjaGo watches, NinjaGo Logo Mug, NinjaGo calendar with exclusive Un-Ninja moments and Real NinjaGo celebration in all-new funny NinjaGo set promoting photos, and a NinjaGo sticker book(s), which still leaves room for the NinjaGo miniseries, NinjaGo movie sequel, NinjaGo coloring book, NinjaGo cardgame(Traditional deck, not the NinjaGo set cards), NinjaGo Majong, NinjaGo sudoku, NinjaGo OldMaid, NinjaGo Air-Operated Oil Pump with Extension Kit.(For your NinjaGo economy sized car), NinjaGo Chips Ahoy! Ultimate Street Jam Gritty Underground Dance-Off-War Poster. I think this branding is getting a bit silly. And that's just the first wave. I wonder what ground dragon will be? Maybe he will be brown with crystals?! That'd be awesome, would remind me of the Rock Monsters. Nuckal is a skeleton. It will be skeleton quad. Wonder what that would look like. I don't really see how they need to be defended, though, unless there's some large enemy vehicle attacking it. Like a TOTALLY NINJA Atv? Edited October 21, 2010 by Milargo Quote

Would you say the same thing if there had been this kind of marketing for a classic theme like LEGO Pirates? A line of sets, a Brickmaster book, a movie, a website, and a boardgame (plus the spinning tops, which aren't much different than regular sets) doesn't amount to much. LEGO Star Wars had much more: three video games (soon to be four) on several platforms each, a Brickmaster book, the little "Revenge of the Brick" TV event from 2005, several watches and clocks, a visual dictionary, that little Luke Skywalker minifigure vignette... the list goes on. BIONICLE, needless to say, also had a lot of merchandise. Same goes for Knights' Kingdom II, which like BIONICLE had several books, foam swords, watches, etc. Saying Ninjago has an excessive amount of merchandise is showing a little bit of ignorance, to be nice about it. I myself think it's great that LEGO is showing this degree of confidence in a brand-new, non-licensed theme. It probably says a lot for the amount of time, effort, and research they've put into the stuff they've got coming our way. Will we like it? Who knows? It certainly isn't targeted at our age range. But LEGO certainly has some reason to believe this line will be extremely profitable with the younger kids. "Defending the Earth Dragon" will probably have a dragon with the same sort of design aesthetic as the Icedragon. And my bets are on that it, like the Icedragon, is allied with the Ninjas. Beyond that, not much to be gathered from that set name alone. Why is everyone so confused about the skeleton quad? It's basically just another variation on the tank and motorcycle we've already seen. Nice shop job, though (had me laughing for quite a while). Quote

That's the point that I was getting at, all of the previous themes you mentioned were well established, and releasing apparel and various other accessories and merchandise was a calculated risk. Seeing that their shifting strategies for this theme and really laying it all out on the table, I thought was a bold move. It probably says a lot for the amount of time, effort, and research they've put into the stuff they've got coming our way. Will we like it? Who knows? It certainly isn't targeted at our age range. But LEGO certainly has some reason to believe this line will be extremely profitable with the younger kids. Even if well thought out and calculated, I still think it's a huge risk on their part, everything that I've seen so far has been well put together, the website looks fantastic (When you take into account the demographic) and I believe this line will be very successful with the targeted demographic, I mean look a Knights Kingdom II. Sure we've seen this strategy been done before. But so much so soon? That's new to me. And I couldn't help but poke fun at it. Why is everyone so confused about the skeleton quad? It's basically just another variation on the tank and motorcycle we've already seen. And I don't think we're confused with the concept so much as we're hung up on their use of the abbreviation ATV, considering the word shinobi did not exist to describe a ninja-like agent until the 15th century. Well, it just seems a little funny. (Nice shop job, though (had me laughing for quite a while). Edited October 21, 2010 by Milargo Quote

Yeah I'd be interested also, but I'm pretty sure that Lego is obligated to include a female into the Ninja group, y'know because of.. I'll just say it's because of demographics... I doubt they'll go into more detail of the character than slapping some feminine feature on the bricks. Or were you referencing the pieces? Well, we can always use more o' those bricks. I don't know if you could call 4Juniors a failure, since it lasted two years and was in itself an extension of the style already established by the Jack Stone theme. So in a sense it was an already-present theme, just a rebranded one. I don't think taking on the other spinning-top-battle brands is necessarily the best way to describe Ninjago, either, since none of those brands are at the peak of their hype anyway. It's more LEGO trying to capitalize off the same idea, not trying to establish itself as a competitor to those brands. On a side note, I just looked up 4Juniors on Bricklink to figure out its exact lifespan, and never realized until now that the Pirates line had two separate factions. Learn something new every day, I suppose. Quote
Peppermint_M Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 The only thing anyone can call a failure is Galidor and this is because it was dire and was trying to get into a market that needs a good source material to make any profit. By your reckoning then, all Action themes are a failure and indeed the pirates re-boot must be a failure, seeing as most don't last long and the only one to have multiple lines is only tentatively "Action" as it was too modern to be historic but not modern enough to be Town. Bakugan, Pokemon and countless other things have become immense hits due to their collectable nature and battle based games. If kids can play it in the school yard, then chances are it will gain some popularity. All it takes is four or five of the "cool" kids to play it and everyone is begging their older relatives to buy them the toy and all the varied extras. The massive effort Lego is making to promote this theme increases the chances of this being a hit with kids. The increased exposure, through a variety of products in a number of media will attract the target demographic to the theme. No wonder TLG was so concerned when they found out that AFOLs were significant in number, they knew a lot of their products stood to have a scathing reception from stick-in-the-muds and grumpy nerds! (A la the action figure manufacturers). Quote

In Japanese the sound "nya" is something like "meow", anime catgirls often overuse it. No one told me this would be an anime line. Gotta be honest here, not really sure what to think, well uh. I'll go ask Google translate, maybe they'll be able to sort this thing out. Okay, according to Google, the Swedish translation for Nya is New... Guess that doesn't make much more sense than naming a character "Meow". Quickly, I began searching through the various dictionary sites Google had informed me of, I stumbled upon one that provided particularly peculiar definitions and explanations.(Most of which to words that don't actually exist.) Taking all facts I'd gathered up to this point, I was left with one, simple conclusion. This must be the Wikipedia of online dictionaries. If Lego was in fact targeting this line toward children, this must surely be my best chance at finding out what their reasons were for naming this odd character so strangely, seeing as this was an "Urban" Website, I must've stumbled upon the "hip" and "totally radical" Internet Underground where all the "kool kids" hang out these days. Suffice it to say, I was "in like flynn". I saw that this was my opportunity which, following advice that I've been given, I promptly set about the process of "seizing". Wary, and uncertain of what lies ahead, I decided to venture further, in the pursuit of a meaningful, logical explanation for this unfortunate character's absurd name. Minutes of time consuming research later, it was decided that I would find no consolation on this most "Urban" of Websites. My experience which was regrettable, didn't leave me empty handed, no. Quite the contrary, it allowed me to come to the realization that my method of research was scientifically inaccurate, generally unsuccessful and, when it was successful, deeply upsetting. Seeing as I had just come from a Website with the word "Urban" in it's title, I only feel it fitting to summerize my situation in their words. I am disappoint. It looks like I have another chapter for my book, 15 Things I Regret Doing On The Internet. And a premise for my new Ebook/guide: How to Abuse Your Visitors And Pass Your Website Off As An 'Informative Dictionary Website' nevertheless I don't have any further information, or explanation, on their decision of Nya to be the name of the female Ninja. I'll have to side with your theory, Corydoras, that this character's name is "Meow". After all, the "Urban Dictionary" was unanimous in the definition of "Nya", victory by majority. Not to mention that this site is "totally rad" in that it's name has the word "urban" in it, naturally I assume their "hip" to this subject. Of course there is the slim chance that her name stands for Nation Youth Association, but. That'd just be silly. All that aside, I have to say that this is the most interesting Lego theme I've speculated upon yet. And I await, with grave anticipation, the release of the sets and story of the theme. I mean, it's been a blast so far. Quote

Delta 38 Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 (edited) Like a TOTALLY NINJA Atv? Perhaps, but seeing as it is a dragon, I'm guessing there's a fairly large/strong vehicle. Seeing how strange this line is, I wouldn't be surprised if it's a white and purple skeleton tank or something along those lines. It seems more likely to be a land vehicle to me. Someone HAS to make this with lego. I'll try to make it, but I hardly MOC and it may not look good. I'll post an image later if I do make it. Realistically, though, I'm guessing the ATV will again be futuristic, and will probably feature white with another colour. Edited October 22, 2010 by Delta 38 Quote
