ShadowFire is my first totally freeform MOC spaceship since coming out of 'dark ages', I've built a few ships before this one, but they were Alternate Models or otherwise themed (exoforce ships, SW ships).

The shape is influenced by the 'Pyro' series of ships as seen in the Descent computer game. Particularly the 'arrowhead' nose and swept wings are borrowed, however closer inspection of the proportions, and location of other features reveals indicates this is definetly a different ship. I did decide that the name should be a tribute to the Pyro though, hence ShadowFire.

The overall construction is rather simplistic, its basically stacked bricks with the only major SNOT being the wings and engines mounted by click hinges(doesnt really count). Despite this I do think the shape came out beautifully, and of course it has a great color scheme, vetrans will remember BlackTron1.

Cockpit details

Interesting controls, they flip up to allow the pilot to climb out.

The only areas that bother me at the moment, are the engine exhausts could use more detail - nothing too fancy though, or theyll mess up the overall body lines.

and the lack of landing gear, at the moment its just a boat bottom. Cant think of a good way to add retractable legs though, without messing up the shape...

Nice one. *y*

I agree with you on the exhausts. My first thought was you could try two of these.

As for landing gear... it would either have to be really tiny or you need to rebuild the hull to incorporate it.

Maybe if you replaced the 1 x 3 inverted slopes in the back with the normal 1 x 3 slopes and use hinges to rotate them from flight mode to landing mode.

A combination of 44302.jpg and 44300.1077962155.jpg might do the trick.

I don't know how much room you have back there.

Hopefully it's clear what I mean.

I like the overal shape and the flip up controls are a great detail.

Nice to see you managed to use that canopy. :-)

Really good!

I really like the compact size, and the color scheme. It reminds me of Batman.

The cockpit is nicely done too. It is very realistic, and the minifigure fits in there nice and snug.

I like it. As for the exhausts...I usually stick cones up there, but I usually have the 'engine' the other way around...not sure if it'll look good in your MOC too.

And for landing gear...how about attaching some battle droid arms to the gun with the transgreen piece up top? You would have to find a place to add the final piece of landing gear somewhere up front though...

And I'd personally remove the purple grille tiles. They don't fit IMO. Or don't remove them but add a bit more purple, so they don't look out of place.

Thanks for all the compliments and suggestions everyone!

I've got a revised version:

Now with extra lasers.

*slightly* better engine nozzles, still not the best, but with my parts limitations...

What could those yellow cylinders under the wings be?...

pict0308.jpg

...Retracable landing gear!

Not the prettiest... kinda peglegs compared to most designs, but nice and unobtrusive when retracted.

Radia wonders, how the heck is she supposed to get down from here? :-D

I'd still remove the purple, but you fixed the exhausts simply yet effectively. I'm not a big fan of the landing gear, but it gets the job done. Which way do they retract? And finally, the extra guns are a nice touch at the tips of the wing. Nice work :-)
