Sirens-of-Titan Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 The new Kingdoms line is fantastic and the model's construction is awesome! Looking at the figures I can see the theme really forms a connection between the characters and their coat of arms. The lions are noble and brave, and their units reflect the personality of the actual animal. Same with the dragons (they actually have scales as armor and are high and mighty, not necessarily evil yet powerful. I want to see a lot of new factions but instead of speculating on possibilities I am gonna post a quick ideas pic and explain what my ideal factions are at this point. Something like these is what I hope Lego will give us, and while I have no shortage of ideas, i try to be realistic. So let me post it and explain: http://www.mocpages.com/image_zoom.php?moc...46m_DISPLAY.jpg 1) The lion shield of the current faction (yes I know it's not the actual shield but it's a shield in that style to give you an idea of the conversion you would have to do in your mind from my quick "paint" and clip art pic to real Lego style. (My apologies for the trouble) 2) The dragons shield (same as above) 3) The shield with the eye, is what I hope will be some sort of magician faction (knights who follow a powerful wizard) These will be a fantastic new color scheme we have not yet seen in the Castle line, and will satisfy us fantasy fans. I can see ghosts and dragons being fantasy creatures here, but just imagine a new Kingdoms torso in those colors with that symbol; now imagine a battalion of them!! A wizards tower will be the corner stone of that army. 4) The yellow-gray fox shield. Since this line features full-torso animals instead of just heads as the old castle, I imagined a wolf-pack faction will have a symbol like this. Now, I wanted to go with yellow and dark gray because it's something now yet done, and especially because I could see a whole group of these guys ambushing Lion knights in a forest. I could also imagine a whole lot of yellow on grey checkered patterns being incorporated in their knights (it's almost Teutonic ) 5) The cow skull shield: This is a shield that represents a faction of highly trained, bulging, veteran mercenaries. I don't think they could coexist with number 4, but they are good substitutes for each other. This will satisfy the ruffian army model, and will give us a blue army with a bit of an evil edge. (as opposed to the good old crownies) 6) The peasants shield: Yes i know, very counter-intuitive, as peasants do not fight, don't have shields or use a coat of arms as they are the farthest from royalty, but then again they do need representation in the realm of Kingdoms! I could see this being a revolt of sorts, and while their units will carry wooden board shields and pitchforks, the leaders can carry this on a banner. What more to motivate you than seeing the images of your favorite pig at your side at all times! Well, this is my take on it, I want to see other ideas posted, and please include a visual. Cheers! posades Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 You know I could see the Forestmen making a return with their Stag shield; they could be more of a barbaric kingdom with no established knights or large castle. Quote
blueandwhite Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Unicorn. We had a Unicorn shield in KKII and now we actually have a unicorn chaffron. The combination seems obvious. Quote
DaleDVM Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Good call blue and white. KK2 had some of the best shields ever made. I have an entire faction made up of those unicorn shields. Now thanks to the dragon knights I will get to add some of those archers as footmen. The dark green is the same color for both obviously. Sirens of Titan I really like the artwork! I like the eye shield idea. I'm not sure I would want the wizard faction to be purple, perhaps the wizard could be a black and white or black and grey combo? Then you could make the eye a dynamic color to make it stand out. IMHO Purple would be a great color for a very noble faction similar to the lions or the crownies. We did have a purple knight before... but I am guessing this time they won't make his entire armor purple! The dark grey/yellow is great as well. I have a faction with those colors using the KK2 dragon shield. It would make a great official color pattern. The blue reminds me too much of Jayko and I threw up in my mouth just thinking about him. The burgundy and pink and black is surprisingly cool. Would be good for some renegade soldiers. I would really love for lego to give us a round shield with a wooden plank print on it for citizen soldier types. We have also never had any orange colors for any of the lego factions. Quote
Alex the Great Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Not sure what emblem to have, but there is some colours that I would like to see on new factions. A yellow crest with some purple, then a blue and orange faction. Maybe purple instead of blue, but since we haven't really seen much of orange and yellow, it would be nice colours to get. Quote
UsernameMDM Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 (edited) I'd love to see Griffins. A black griffin with a red tongue on a gold shield. Faction colors would be black, red & gold. Edited June 5, 2010 by UsernameMDM Quote
JCC1004 Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 (edited) Yes! I really want more factions added to Kingdoms! It would be the best thing TLG could do. I already love the theme and this would make it much more interesting. I use my small army of Crowines as a third faction since they fit in pretty well. I'll edit in some of my faction ideas later since it's quite late and I'm tired. Some quick thoughts. Greek mythological creatures! Hydras would be awesome! Edited June 7, 2010 by JCC1004 Quote
Dragonator Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 I'd love to see Griffins. A black griffin with a red tongue on a gold shield. Faction colors would be black, red & gold. A griffin would be very neat, such lovely creatures, and with a traditional place in heraldry already, too. Quote
Sir Dillon Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 I personally am tired of lions. The lion emblem in the Kingdoms sets is very cool, but I would like to see some other insignias used for the "good guys". I like Username's idea of a griffin, and would also like to see some type of bird such as an eagle or phoenix. A tree similar to the emblem used by the men of Gondor in Lord of the Rings could also be neat. Quote

Yes that mythology could be used quite extensively, I don't know if they'll use a hydra which is too much like a dragon, but possibly a griffin or a minotaur Quote
UsernameMDM Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 Also another one that hasn't done yet that I would love to see would be a Boar or a Ram faction: Quote
Teh Stud Posted July 10, 2010 Posted July 10, 2010 OK, so the new line Lego released looks pretty nice, but I'm a little disappointed that they are doing Lions again. The dragon heraldry looks good, but is still a redo. So, what animal, creature or symbol would you like to see that hasn't been done before? (I am leaving out real world religious symbols because I don't think Lego will ever do them...) Just to make things interesting, you can choose two for a new castle line... Here are the choices. (I'd like to make this a poll to add up the results, but the poll icon doesn't appear for me). Crossed Swords Thorned Rose Rooster Griffin Unicorn Tower Wizard Hat Fleur de Lys Four Leaf Clover Blazing Sun Quote
SirWacky Posted July 10, 2010 Posted July 10, 2010 Sun and crossed swords FTW! Really though that would look so cool! Quote
Sir Dillon Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 I think new Kingdoms design is the best lion emblem we've had (especially compared to the cartoon-like lion of the Royal Knights and KKI), but echo your desire for something other than lions for the "good" factions. The crown knights of the Fantasy line was a nice change. This topic is basically a repeat of this thread, so I'll merge the two once you've seen this. Quote

The griffin and boar are very cool. Any chance you could add boar to the list and turn this into a poll when you merge the threads? Let everyone vote for two... Quote
Sir Dillon Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 I've added a poll with most of your options, along with some more from this thread and an "other", so people can still add ideas. As far as your suggestions, I think a blazing sun on a white background could be neat a faction, and they could be used as the Whitecloaks from the Wheel of Time books. Quote
blueandwhite Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 @Teh Stud Earlier in this thread I expressed my support for heraldry featuring a unicorn however I like some of your suggestions even better. In particular, I really like the choices that don't focus on animals. The thorned rose seemed like a nice choice IMO, but I would be happy to see any of these choices made (with the possible exception being the wizard hat). Great ideas. Quote
Sandy Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 Definitely a unicorn herald for a forest-based faction. They already made the unicorn's horn piece, so why not make a whole faction based on that? Their leader would of course have to be like the Lady of the Lake from Arthurian legends. LEGO Castle has never had a figure like her, after all. Quote

In fact, how about an all female faction? It would be nice to increase the estrogen levels a little in the Lego kingdom. Maybe too much testosterone is why there aren't more peaceful figs? Quote
Sirens-of-Titan Posted July 13, 2010 Author Posted July 13, 2010 Yes, I haven't seen that thread. The griffin and boar are very cool. Thanks man, the poll is a great idea, and I like the idea of the tower on the shield, kind of like the shield of the "Redcliffe" faction in dragon age Quote
SuvieD Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 The boar in a similar style to the current kingdoms designs with black as the minifig color, and a griffin faction with blue would be ideal for me. A white eagle and a purple tower or gate faction would be cool too. Honestly though, anything in the same style as they are doing now I would gladly buy up. LEGO Castle has not been this good since before the dragons. Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 (edited) That's a great and very intersting topic, Sirens-Of-Titan! I voted for tower TLG really needs to give us some new geraldry - always only redesignes of (the classic used) animals gets really boring and is difficult to play with. A torso with yellow-white or gold-white would be great, too. Klaus-Dieter Edited July 16, 2010 by Klaus-Dieter Quote
FifthPhysco Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 I voted for the Thorned Rose :P I really like the Griffin idea mentioned near the beginning of this topic and I think the red, black & gold would look great together. Great topic :) Quote
Derfel Cadarn Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 I need a White five pointed star on a dark green background for Lord Derfel and his 'stars of the shield wall'. A black bear for Arthur and his nights. A long tusked boar for Owain and his men. A red dragon on a White field for Dumnonia. A hawk for the men of Cornwall. A Fox for the men of Siluria, a Christian cross for Galahad, a red horse for the men of Elmet. Plus they all need to be round shield as i'm working on 5th and 6th century. But, that's deffinitly a wish list as Lego would never release those. Anyone who can make those decals let me know!!! Quote
