THE BOX

The the most superficial part of any LEGO product, but the one that often determines whether or not the set is a success or failure.

http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/vahkimet..._review_001.jpg

Very nice (As always). There's nothing new here, but there are two nice alternate models. One is a speeder and one a helicoptor.

I love those explosion effects on the box too.

WHAT'S IN THE BOX?

So you've bought it and taken it home (or at least made it to the car), punched the perforated tabs and dump out the contents. What do you get for your money?

http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/vahkimet..._review_003.jpg

Just the parts and instructions. What did you expect? A 100 doller bill?

THE BRICKS

Here's where we start to cut to the heart of the matter. You didn't buy this box for all the glossy booklets & creative artwork. You want to know about the LEGO bricks & bits that are included, and what (if any) new & interesting parts you'll find inside. Here's also where I'll talk about any new and/or interesing pieces that you will encounter.

As always very good black parts. The wheele is very nice for pirate builders, but of course, they'd just get one off Bricklink. :-P This is also a good source of flat blue plates. I'm satisfied with what I got.

BUILDING EXPERIENCE

What can you expect while putting this model together?

The same TIE cockpit construction, with some interesting design on the wings. The building of this model is nice and relaxing. Nothing too *I wanted to say that this set contains a lot of big pieces but didn't want to take the time to write it all, so I used the word "*I wanted to say that this set contains a lot of big pieces but didn't want to take the time to write it all, so I used the word "<insert that tiresome argument>" instead*" instead*, nothing too hard.

MINIFIGURES

THe little guys who run around the scene? Yep, they're included too, and sometimes they make a big difference in the overall rating!

http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/vahkimet..._review_004.jpg

You get a TIE Pilot as usual, but instead, with a black head! This is a plus, as the little bit of the "kneck" you see will look movie accurate. I still wish they included a stormtrooper or something extra, after all the other mechanic thingys in the other new sets.

PLAYING EXPERIENCE

So you've got the model together, but is it more like playing with a block of wood or an interactive toy?

Very good play value. It is very swooshable, and the cockpit opens fine. Like I said before, they should have added a "mechanic" as that would add to minifigure value, and play value. Still great.

OVERALL

Here's where it all boils down to whether the model is worth your money and time or not.

http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/vahkimet..._review_005.jpg

Overall, this set is awesome! There are somethings I wish were in this, and others I didn't really want, but it is still a great set.

I think for a $19.99 set it really fits a good price/parts ratio! 9 cents (US money) a piece! I suggest you get, one, or too, or three, or...

Overall score: 9.5/10

Questions, comments, picture requests?

I read your comments (and avoided looking at those brainkilling pictures! :-P ) and I must say I really like your style!

Asking a question and answering it immediatelly somehow is such a natural way to illustrate what you have in mind while talking about a particular set!

Though another hint: Try to use the formating tools too make the text look more enjoyable and structured!

Yeah, it comes in the family. My Dad does reviews for a magazine sometimes. (Can't say which for security reasons)

This is my first picture review, I find it much more interesting when a review has pics. I've been inspired by all these reviews on the web, I've done my own, but never in this style.

Now to get those resized pictures!

I have to agree with Apo, the pictures are too blurry. That doesn't always matter, but for a review, it's rather important. The size is fine though...

About the set...well, it's just another TIE. Nothing special on this one. Worst 2006 set if you ask me. 6.5/10

The peeplinks still go to the unformatted, huge pictures *sad*

Come on, don't be lazy and modify them!

Strange, they seem to be the right size for me. They started of big but afterwards they became small. Now, they start of small...

That's your browser shrinking them for you.

This sure works for many people, but you also have to think of those that are connecting via a modem or that have slow computers, those have problems with displaying them properly.

Vahki, to create a great article (a review in this case) you need to have make everything work together as good as possible. Embedding nicely sized pictures, formatted text and paragraphs and such helps the reader to enjoy the article much more than some quickly typed sentences [EDIT: After reading your review again they all are proper typed, so this last hint is no particular critque at your review!] and some pictures he has to open in another window and resize them himself!

I think I will resize the pictures for you and show you what your review could look like! ;-)

To call it the "worst" set seems really negative. Like all the sets were cr@p and this was the worst. I thought all this year's sets were exellent, with this perhaps the least excellent. I think we mean the same, I'm more positive!

OK, maybe too expensive given that there's nothing particualrly "new" about it. Its another TIE afterall. But one that was much sought after. Yeah, a mechanic or something would havae made it more worthwhile

That is actually the way one of the BZP admins Binkmeister writes his reviews. vahkimetru just copied his style.

Pretty boring set. It looks like one of the regular TIE fighters with two differant wings. Overall, a pretty bland set. I will not be buying this one.

I guess for lego starwars fans, this would indeed be a set worth getting for.

Another thing would the internal construct of the cockpit, it's slightly different from any previous Tie releases. The difference would be the extra black "bar" brick that strengthens the cockpit opening/closing hatch immensely.

I have done a review on this set for starwars fans in SG, it's here.

All in all, I quite like this new Tie set as compared to the previous other Ties, probably because the hatch doesn't drop off as easily when I close or open it. :-D

No he didn't, its how I do reviews, Binkmeister must be copying me! Vahkimetru is ok tho, anyone is allowed to use my review style except for bzpower, since I am morally against that forum.

;-)

Anyhow....

With this set, as with all other Tie fighters, I am very dissapointed that lego 'cheated' and made a custom windshield with custom tiefighter printing.

I personally would have used a clear radar dish piece as the window glass with this piece surrounded by 8 robot arms as the metal frame stuff around it.

I think Echo means that he's using the style most people on Bzpower use.

Anyway, nice review. I think it's a neat set, but I probably won't be getting it.
