Hey everyone -

Really love the insight/comments you guys have so I have a question for you:

How long will I have until GE and FB go from retail to after market?

I ask because, in order to not bankrupt us, my wife and set aside a set amount per month where we can each get whatever we want. It should come as no surprise that my "what I want" is Lego. I really don't want to pay after market prices for the modular homes currently available as I missed CC and the Factory home. I picked up GG and I absolutely love it.

I also got into running - ran a 5K last week, getting healthy, etc and I am going to be picking up some stuff for that, delaying any lego purchases.

So how long do you think I have? I know GE was new this year and FB was new late last year, but my childhood was littered with moments where my mom helped me order a set only to find out it was out of stock or not available so I am likely over-reacting a bit by asking how long I have for the latest modular sets :)

thanks for reading my ramblings and offering replies!

Definitely buy the Fire Brigade first. I don't think its necessarily a better set, but it will surely go out of production soonest because it's older than the Grand Emporium. The GE seems like one of the more major of the modulars, so it might even have a longer shelf life than 2 years, while I don't think its the same case for the FB.

Hope it helps. :classic:

Just to note that for some unspecified reason, Lego are selling the Fire Station at €125 here in Ireland, rather than the more usual modular price of €150, or indeed the new Irish rip-off price of €180 applied to Grand Emporium (when I bought it right after it appeared it was €150 just like it still is for Germany).

So I would expect Fire Station to sell quite a bit here in Ireland just because it is that much cheaper, I guess it doesn't affect things much in the grander scheme of things, but if there are other countries where it is cheaper, it might have an impact.

The waiting game is a dangerous game to play when it comes to Lego ! I can speak with personal experience, having delayed my purchase of the Eiffel Tower for too long and then eventually paid almost double for a MISB set.

I agree with previous comments on here - you've still got time (particularly with Grand Emporium which has obviously only just come out), but don't leave it too long. I think it's better to prioritise purchasing the big sets such as GE and FB over smaller sets as you'll generally pay less of a premium to get the smaller sets on eBay once they've been retired.

I do sympathise, though - there are SO many excellent sets this year across multiple themes..........

Sorry. no idea for your question. but just want to say I like running too :).

you do not need to pay much. most expensive stuffs are the shoes. other gadgets are really optional.

but of course nowadays the race fees are quite expensive also..

Keep running and bricking!

No worries, happymark :). Yea, I got into it and now I'm hooked - such a great release!

In January I was told (by a nice lady on S@H) that the Fire Brigade is listed on their systems with availability until at least 2011. However if there has been high turnover it might run out sooner. GE has a 2 year life... GG is likely to disappear before FB. But who knows... market economics are strange things and sometimes reproducing a batch is not economical.

When you get to 14k then you know the addiction is strong.

I'd say give yourself until December (no later) to purchase the Fire Brigade and mid next year for the Grand Emporium. You should've saved enough funds by then.

I myself have a budget for my Lego purchases and have kept track of how much I spend each month/year. I found out immediately that my initial budget for Lego was not enough, so I doubled that amount each year divided into 12 months. Taking 2009 as an example, I went over 250% of my new budget. As for this year, I've spent a few hundred dollars over compared to last year's first four months! There are just so many beautiful and interesting sets, I can't help myself not buying.

Good luck and play well!

The same problem with Cafe Corner :cry_sad: .

My guess is the fire brigade will be discontinued between August and December of this year. For the Grand Emporium it probably will be discontinued around the end of 2011.

Fire Brigade in the majority of markets has been released in December-January, so I think it will be discontinued between January and June 2011. In Italy, GG is still available on S@H, I think until June/July.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but while we're on the topic how much longer do you guys think I have to pick up a Market Village.

I would move on that set. It has been out over a year already. I picked up an extra and placed it in the attic just the other day. That is a set I do not want to miss out on having multiple.
