phoinix Posted March 13, 2006 Posted March 13, 2006 I just love the song contest!! I've watced since 1984 (I was 4 at the time) *sweet* does anybody else cares about this? Its gonna be in athens this year so since i am living in greece should i be the one inviting you? :-$ Do you know which singer is going to represend your countries? ....(hope im not the only one )..... phoinix Quote
snefroe Posted March 13, 2006 Posted March 13, 2006 hm.... i think most belgians lost all interest in eurosong many years ago when the contest kept on expanding to so many countries, even not european ones, that they just didn't feel related to it any more... People associate it these days with kitch, something you better stay away from... the only thing that people do like, however, is chosing a song for the contest. that's normally limited to flemish artists people know or new talent. it's a bit like "idol" and it seems that type of media contest is popular these days. we already have our candidate, i've heard it several times. it's a good popsong but nothing more, it doesn't stand out or anything. I guess it's a bit like Ketchup's song and probably one of many to use that style. I couldn't care less about Eurosong i'm afraid. the music is very often terrible and i don't think we've seen any decent star coming out of it in decades. In fact, it's more about politics today then about music. especially the Balkans have turned eurosong into a joke... Consequently, i haven't watched eurosong in many years and i'd like to keep it that way. Quote
xwingyoda Posted March 13, 2006 Posted March 13, 2006 I think that Eurovision is really a fun program !! And for once France is represented by a great artist: Corneille (yeay X-D ) but we'll loose like always :-P Cyprus' representative is pretty cute ;-) I cannot wait to see Monaco's representative singing in French and Tahitian X-D She was a stupid actress in lousy sitcoms and had a TV show afterwards !! That will be fun The German group seems quite fun as well X-D Check the official website here !! *yoda* Quote
ApophisV Posted March 13, 2006 Posted March 13, 2006 I'm not a huge fan of the "art" of it, but we have the tradition to meet with some friends, have a barbeque and watch the show all together! Always great fun! *sing* Quote
The Hordesman Posted March 13, 2006 Posted March 13, 2006 Never been a fan, never will be. I havent actually heard a good winner in about, well, my entire lifetime. Abba 4 ever! X-D Quote
Kikuichimonji Posted March 13, 2006 Posted March 13, 2006 I like music, but in general, I can't classify the kind of songs they sing at this Eurovision songfestival as music. The songs are absolutely not my taste. The song that won in the Netherlands is bad....verrrrry bad... Basically, I never was interested at all. And I doubt I ever will be.... Quote
JoeMI6 Posted March 13, 2006 Posted March 13, 2006 It's ok, but i think it is a bit of a dying breed,as each country has such different tastes in music, and i think the system where they have a live link to EVERY country competing to see who gets points is just stupid. Quote

I think not so- most countries has pretty much the same type and therefore it doesnt matter who wins. Infact, its pretty much the same song all of them every year. I prefer Japanese music, aye. Quote
languages Posted March 13, 2006 Posted March 13, 2006 I am horrified with Britain's attempt this year....a white guy who thinks he is black and a megabloking rubbish song that is repetative and dull... Why cant good bands enter with proper music on instruments enter? Quote
Kikuichimonji Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 Man, Brittain has tons of good, new bands (Arctic Monkeys, Infadels, etc....) and they still can't send a decent one over? Quote
phoinix Posted March 24, 2006 Author Posted March 24, 2006 Anna Vissi is going to represend Greece with the song "everything" Cyprus is going to be represented by a young beautyfull artist Annet with the song "why angels cry" Both song's are balands and not dance songs.. Good luck to them both!! *sweet* *sweet* phoinix :-$ Quote

Good luck to them both!! *sweet* *sweet* phoinix :-$ this is one of the problems of Eurosong and why so many people hate it these days. you get neighbours giving high votes to each other not because they like the song but they're related. Greece-cyprus is an excelent example! Quote
phoinix Posted March 25, 2006 Author Posted March 25, 2006 i agree with u..filnland-sweeden are another ecxaple!!as are all the countries that are related with russia (former USSR) But u have to take in mind that cyprus and greece are the only countries that speak greek as a formal language not only in europe but in the whole world..while french and english are a lot more common languages so people from western europe from countries such as belgium france and many others will vote for each other rather than voting for a countrie such as greece.. Greece haswon eurosong for the very first time while ireland the great britain france and belgium have won a lot more times...so its easy to see where the biggest aliences really are.. ;-) phoinix Quote

"j'aime la vie" by Sandra Kim, a truly terrible song :-( in fact, she even sang "Le vie" instead of "la vie" cos she wasn't sure of the gender of the word *wacko* oh well, she quietly disappeared in to the history books... X-D However, it seems Belgium is major candidate this year, so perhaps we'll win this year... i don't think the question here is the language. France, UK and Germany haven't won that much thru out the years, so understanding the song doesn't seem to be that important. Holland , on the other hand, did very well during the first 15 years or so, even tho dutch isn't well known either. And belgium doesn't automatically give lots of point to Holland or the other way around, even tho we practically speak the same language... But you're right, Eastern European countries vote for each other. i think the problem here is that there are large numbers of hungarians for instance, in other Eastern European countries, and they're manipulating the votes from the countries they're living in, in favour of the Hungarian candidate... In any case, it spoils the fun for me. If there's anything i prefer to watch of Eurosong it's giving the points. and now it seems i'm not even allowed to see that, because Greece has decided to only show the three best of all rankings! >:-( Quote
phoinix Posted March 25, 2006 Author Posted March 25, 2006 i really like the voting as well!! and i am also dissaponted about this desicion but its not a greek desicion it came fom EBU..so that they can save time!! *wacko* go figure! as far as the language greek won while singing in english and not in greek so that counts for something...i'd rather each country sang in there native language it used to be a lot more fun that way!but the problem is nobody understands greek or turkish(they also won when singing in english) while everybody understands english! (we are typing in english here after all...its universall) :-/ :-/ as far as the televoting goes u can tell what nationality lives in each country..germany for instance has about a milion of turkish people and greece has a great deal of albanians..cyprus has a lot of roumanians and so on...its a bit unfair sometimes because the largest nationality tents to win because no matter where they live in europe they influence the voting in that country....well this is europe after all and this is the new state of things....(if u ask me i dont even like that we all pay in the same currency i liked things the way they were but lets try not to bring politics into bricks *sweet* *sweet* ) anyhow i've loved the contest and i guess i always will!! its kitch..most of the songs are terrible! its just a pop pink barbie world ( :-X ) but i love watching!!!! *wacko* *wacko* ... :-) (..hope that cyprus wins sometimes..) The Hordesman Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 i agree with u..filnland-sweeden are another ecxaple!!as are all the countries that are related with russia (former USSR) Thats about the most offending and incorrect thing Ive ever heard. NO country was a part of the Soviet, EVER! The russians took finnish ground, sure, but NO, we have NOTHING to do with ANY sort of communism! Bloody hell, we almost went to war with the russians at one point! Cant people see the difference between normal socialism and communism? Meh. We might give neighbor-votes to Finland, but Russia? Thats silly. I hope you wrote it wrong, else you did a BIG mistake. >:-( Quote
phoinix Posted March 25, 2006 Author Posted March 25, 2006 i meant that the countries that used to be in the ussr give points to each other as cyprus gives points to greece and filnald shares points with sweeden..hope that makes it all clear for u.. i am very well aware of what communism and what socialism is as well as i know my history.. hope u dont get so mad so easily..we are here to ecxange opinions and points of view.. :-) phoinix Quote
snefroe Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 i really like the voting as well!! and i am also dissaponted about this desicion but its not a greek desicion it came fom EBU..so that they can save time!! *wacko* go figure! hehe ... it's a belgian idea :'-( it was first used at the eurosong for kids event in Hasselt, Belgium last year. ... yeah yeah yeah, just shoot me! :-D Quote
The Hordesman Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 hope u dont get so mad so easily..we are here to ecxange opinions and points of view.. Ah ok, misunderstanding :-) . I neither want to offend Russians or other former members, but lately people has gone aggressive against anyone having even the slightest socialistic idea as a communist, bloody annoying cold war all over again... Thats why I dont like being called former communist when we never even were that. I may sound unknowing now but I have payed immense amounts of nothing to this contest, is it today, or when is it? Next week? :-P Quote
phoinix Posted March 25, 2006 Author Posted March 25, 2006 the contest is on the 21st of may. regarding the politics i tend to vote for the l socialistic-communist party in my country so i would never say anything to offend the left wing party or any other in this forum..im trying my best to be polliticly correct thow cyprus has a lot of problems in this area..(no more politics i promise this descasion is about music and the contest) :-) phoinix Quote
phoinix Posted April 13, 2006 Author Posted April 13, 2006 so greece turns out to be on the top 5 for this years polls and odds in bets...cyprus is not doing very well thow.i hope it picks up... my fovourite songs up to now are the ones from Malta Romania and Spain so do you have a favourite yet? have you watched the video clips? any news regarding the contest in your countries? :-) phoinix Quote
