This has been taken from Sky News.

Lego has been voted the most popular toy of the past 100 years. Generations of children have constructed everything from miniature homes and racing cars out of the plastic building blocks. Even Buckingham Palace has been lovingly recreated.

Almost a third of 2,000 adults questioned said Lego was the must-have toy of the past century.

Lego even beat computer games and consoles, which took 14% of the vote.

The YouGov survey was commissioned by the Museum of Childhood in London to mark the start of an exhibition of toys through the generations.

A museum spokeswoman said: "With Lego, play is open-ended. You can do so much with it, it's up to you whether you build something simple or very detailed.

"Lego has evolved over time with many different styles and sizes, from Duplo for toddlers to Bionicles in the seven-plus age group."

Third place in the poll were teddy bears with 9%, Meccano (8%), train sets (7%) and bicycles (6%).

The remainder of the top 10 included Barbie dolls, Rubik's Cube and Action Man.

Once again Lego has come out top, and it is great that it beat computer games as it shows more people are interested in using their imagination.

maybe because most people who voted were adults....

i think there are more then 33% of the kids that would like more to pay money on a computer / console game than spending it for real toys.... :'( thats so sad....

Ah, these newer generations of kids. They seem to have forgotten the vivid world and imagination of Lego.

One day all kids will be pushing aside their bricks to play with their computers and consoles.

What is the world coming to? >-|

At least we have strong communities of AFOL's who keep the small flame of Lego burning. *sob* :'( *sob*
