Etzel Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 This post is inspired by another Swedish AFOL, Ferdik, who did a similar MOC and posted it on his blog with numbers for donating. Great idea Ferdik! Soon just a week ago an earthquake with the magnitude of 7.0 on the Richter-scale occurred in Haiti. At least 3 million people are estimated to have been affected by the catastrophe. As many as 200.000 might have been killed and the situation for the survivors is terrible. As one of the poorest countries of the world, Haiti is in great need of aid from the rest of the world to be able to take care of the victims. Many states around the world have responded and are sending help, but you can help too. Many non-governmental organisations, like the Red cross, Doctors Without Borders and many more are working hard to rescue the affected but the cost is big and here is where you can contribute. Send a donation to a trusted organisation! (I've put some links in the bottom of my post but feel free to add more in your posts). Red Cross: http://donate.ifrc.org/ Doctors Without Borders: http://www.doctorswithoutborders.org/donate/?ref=main-menu Save the Children: http://www.savethechildren.net/alliance/index.html Quote
Selander Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 Sometimes you think the same..... I too was planning this kind of post, but you gor first. Great initiative, let's always think of the less fortunate when disasters like this occurs. Quote
Big Cam Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 nice MOC, I hope some donations come of this. Quote
lightningtiger Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 What does one say........be it proves AFOL's can have a big heart and a willingness to help in almost anyway ! Your MOC is simple and speaks volumes ! 'Etzel' ! Quote
Etzel Posted January 18, 2010 Author Posted January 18, 2010 I just want to make clear that I don't care about comments on the MOC itself. My idea with this topic is to encourage people to donate to the needed and it's important to see the message behind it. I could of course just have made a topic in the community forum but since this is a LEGO forum I thought this was a better idea. I really hope no one is offended by this and I assure you that my intentions were for the best for the affected. Quote
sens1992 Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 Well Eurobricks members, if you can afford LEGO, you can afford to give for the people victims of the Haiti Earthquake. My wife and I did and I am sure more of us can do it. Quote
curtisrlee Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 Great job on that MOC! I hope it makes some people think of donation Quote
dabulls03 Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 A great MOC for an equally great cause! It really shows how people come together in hard times. My school raised nearly 6000 dollars in one day. If everyone just gives a little bit, it can have a huge impact. Quote
Izzy Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 Simple yet very effective MOC there Etzel, how long did it take you to make the wreckage look so realistic? Thanks for adding the links also, brilliant idea. I have been supporting Doctor Without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières) for a number of years now, they really do great work! Quote
BlueDragonZ Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 Great MOC for the haiti earthquake to raise funds. I feel sorry for those there and hope they can reunite with their familes soon. Quote
BlueBard Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 Wonderful and solidary work BRAVO for you Quote
Etzel Posted January 20, 2010 Author Posted January 20, 2010 Simple yet very effective MOC there Etzel, how long did it take you to make the wreckage look so realistic? Thanks for adding the links also, brilliant idea. I have been supporting Doctor Without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières) for a number of years now, they really do great work! Thanks, the whole MOC only took about an hour to make and the wreckage was probably the easiest part. I pretty much just broke down my Fire Brigade and built some quick scenery. Thanks everyone that have donated! I'm happy that my MOC actually might have encourage someone to give some help. Quote
MetroiD Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 Great initiative. This will be on Classic-Town.net's frontpage tomorrow morning. I'm honoured to have such guys like you around, Etzel! Quote
parchioso Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 I almost miss this one, although I have also done something similar, you have done a much much better job! Great effort in adding the links to the charity organizations! Quote
I Scream Clone Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 Wow, very inspiring work Etzel. You have done a great service towards raising money for the victims and built a great MOC to represent the disaster that has hit Haiti. Quote
