I'm sorry, but I like the Fire Brigade more than the Grand Emporium everyone is raving about. The Emporium looks kind of square compared with the Green Grocer and the Corner Cafe, with the top two floors looking exactly the same. At least the Fire Brigade didn't look the same from top to bottom.

I think that's the main thing my opinion differs from that of everyone else. Although I was one of the only two people who gave the Town Plan four bricks out of five on Brickset, everyone else gave it five. I don't mind stickers, but I detest it when stickers go over more than one brick. Town Plan was particularly bad in this respect.

Call me a sheep  I've really liked all the sets with a good reputation among AFOLs. If you ask about price vs reputation, I'd be harder pressed. But I've liked all the sets that Eurobricks has convinced me to buy

I was a little disappointed at the Home One set this way. In Japan, it's over $200 U.S. I bought it in Canada at about $140 U.S. and it still was a bit disappointing, though it was an original build.

Clearly this topic was intended to point out that some early sets gain legendary status while not really being particularly great sets. It's a nostalgia thing and there is nothing wrong with that. I still look at the early SW sets fondly because they brought me out of my dark ages, but their later replacements are definitely improvements.

Expecting this topic to move in that direction, I'm less thrilled to see it becoming a chance to bash current sets and even whole lines with no regard to the original topic. This was aimed at famous, legendary, universally loved sets, but isn't being directed towards them. As a result, I think it's time to close this down before it just becomes mean spirited (and vastly off the intended topic).
