BillytheKid Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 (edited) Name: Steam Engine Set No.: 7750 Theme: LEGO / SYSTEM / Trains / 12v / Train Set Year: 1980 Pieces: 255 Minifigs: 2 Price (when it was in stores): USD 75$ (which equals about EUR 53€) Price nowadays (2d hand): USD 400$ (which equals about EUR 300€) First some pic's of the train itself: Click on pic for bigger one The right side: Click on pic for bigger one The left side: Click on pic for bigger one And the workplace of the driver: Click on pic for bigger one And this is the second model you can build of the stones of set 7750: It's hard to make a good review of this train. This train has many rare pieces, which make the train very expensive as a complete set. This train was released in 1980, but it hasn't track and (mini)station. If you had to buy the tracks and speedregulator seperatly, it makes an expensive gift for parents to give to their child. Properly, that's why set 7740 sold much better. Nevertheless, this train looks very good. It has a tender, as a steamengine should be. The wheels are bigger then the standaard ones. For a real 12v fan, it's a train you must have in your collection. This makes it properly also expensive. Enough talk about this, this train should been seen . As an owner of this train, I'm very proud to have this set. Because I paid enough for this set, it hasn't run much last 2 years. Recently it runs beautifully at my layout with 2 reefer wagons of JH McKee. Click on pic for bigger one Click on pic for bigger one The stones which are used are standard, but red bougies plates can only be found in this set. If you make this set in other colors, like a Hogwarts theme. Click on pic for bigger one The right side: Click on pic for bigger one The left side: Click on pic for bigger one This was the first design I made: I made actually a copy of set 4708, which you can see here: The inside of the train itself, which is the same of set 4708: Click on pic for bigger one Inside of the wagons: Click on pic for bigger one Click on pic for bigger one And here you can see both trains beside eachother. I bought the 7750 later than mine own build HP-77550. Click on pic for bigger one It's fun to build one of your own. Who has tried this too? Playability: 6/10 (Not much extra's with this set. Wagons, track and speedregulator had to be bought seperatly) Design: 10/10 (It look realistic, exspecially with a tender and big wheels under locomotive.) Price (at that time in stores): 6/10 (See playability) Price (2d hand): 2/10 (demand is higher then supply) Overall: 8/10 (Design is good, but price is very expensive. For expensive part it won't get a 10 form me.) And for the last pic, the emerald train beside the 7750: Click on pic for bigger one I hope you enjoyed this review as I, while written it. WesternOutlaw Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 How I wish Lego would bring back a set like this. This puts the 9V My Own Train Steam Engine to shame (and I actually like the set). With the red base and black train doors and windows, this set is truly a classic. I tried building a smaller version of this from one of the other 12V sets (7727), but it just doesn't compare. I love the heavy German DB locomotive-look that this classic train exhibits. Very nice, and thanks for sharing Panda. Quote
vgo Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 (edited) The red bogie ain't the only extremely rare part in this set, it has also the BIG red wheels (the ONLY set that has them!) and 1x1x2 and 1x2x2 black windows too... These parts are what make this set so special, personally I like the small steam engines more than this. :P EDIT: And let's not forget the RED 12V motor, you can get a set like 7725 WITH the black 12V motor for the price of one red motor! :D Edited August 30, 2009 by vgo Quote

vgo Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 And they cost $40+ a piece on BrickLink, that's a ridiculous price for a 1 x 1 x 2 window! Quote
BillytheKid Posted July 1, 2010 Author Posted July 1, 2010 I love this train, only because it's rare. Quote
Brickaroo Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 I love this train, only because it's rare. Agreed. It's on my list of "must-haves". Will need to save up though. Quote
hoeij Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Agreed. It's on my list of "must-haves". Will need to save up though. I don't see the appeal, it's a steam engine without moving pistons! The only value I can see is that it can be sold for lots of $ to someone else. If I had a copy of this set it'd put it on bricklink right away. Quote
BillytheKid Posted July 1, 2010 Author Posted July 1, 2010 I don't see the appeal, it's a steam engine without moving pistons!Wash your mouth, this train is holy in the 12v world . The only value I can see is that it can be sold for lots of $ to someone else. If I had a copy of this set it'd put it on bricklink right away. Don't think we pay gold for this holy train, we know what's fair and unfair prices . Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 I love this train, only because it's rare. I love this set like a woman can love a rare jewel! This locomotive is a "must" for all 12 volts lego fans! Quote
hoeij Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 This locomotive is a "must" for all 12 volts lego fans! Only if you insist on having a complete collection. I have a layout once per year at our local train show. In deciding my max-bid on eBay I ask myself how much this train could contribute to the show. By that measure, my max-bid would be lower than the price of an Emerald Night with power functions, because the EN is for sure a better crowd-pleaser. Of course, this limit on my max-bid means that I'm not going to win a 7750 eBay-auction for long long time, I can only win an auction after all those that "must" have their 7750 get one first. Quote
