Sir Dillon Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 I present to you the Kreuzfahrer Keep. http://brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=158721 Sorry about the bad quality of some of the pictures, I had a bit of trouble with the lighting. :$ Please let me know what you think! *knight* Quote
Evil Willy Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 Very nice... I dont really like the bley used with old grey..But It doesnt show a lot..Although I think those might just be cleaner old gray right? Hmm the base is realy fantastic and the opening is realy nice... Everything is very good great job! 9/10 Quote
Starwars4J Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 Personally, I think the bley is hardly noticable, good job! I like the landscape Quote
gylman Posted December 23, 2005 Posted December 23, 2005 Wonderful. I'm looking at it here wiht my kids are they are going "Daddy, can we buy that?", "Daddy, can you build that". ' NO and NO But one day I will try. Nice work. Gyl Quote
Sir Dillon Posted December 23, 2005 Author Posted December 23, 2005 Thanks for the replies. :) Yes, that's bley and old grey mixed, I didn't really try it, that's just all the pieces I have. Also, it's hard to tell from the actual creation, so I didn't really notice how much it stood out untill I looked at the pics. Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted December 23, 2005 Posted December 23, 2005 Very nice SD. The different shades of grey look good. Makes the keep look more "castle-ish". I like the way it opens and the interior detail. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted December 23, 2005 Governor Posted December 23, 2005 I notice the lighting isn't that bright... I wonder if under brighter lighting if the use of both greys would work so well... Quote
Sir Dillon Posted December 23, 2005 Author Posted December 23, 2005 Thanks for the replies. :-D I notice the lighting isn't that bright... I wonder if under brighter lighting if the use of both greys would work so well. Maybe. Like I said; I had a little trouble with the lighting. Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted December 24, 2005 Posted December 24, 2005 It's a nice moc, and even without brighter lighting, I think the different shades work well. I wish I had enough grey to make a great castle myself. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted December 25, 2005 Governor Posted December 25, 2005 "Daddy, can we buy that?" Make Sir Dillion an offer he can't refuse :^D Quote
Sir Dillon Posted December 25, 2005 Author Posted December 25, 2005 I re-took three pics for the contest with better lighting. I would've re-take everything, but the batteries in my camera ran out, and by the time they were re-charged, I had lost my lighting. *wacko* Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted December 26, 2005 Governor Posted December 26, 2005 Exactly how are you lighting this Sir Dillion? Quote
Sir Dillon Posted December 26, 2005 Author Posted December 26, 2005 With the sun, through my window. I know it's probably not the best way to do it, but it's the best i can do right now. Edit: 200th post! :-D Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted December 26, 2005 Governor Posted December 26, 2005 Do you not have artificial electric lighting? Quote
Sir Dillon Posted December 27, 2005 Author Posted December 27, 2005 Do you not have artificial electric lighting? Yeah, I do. I guess I could've used that, but I prefer natural light. Here is a castle where I took the pics with a light for the lighting. http://brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=145341 It doesn't make much differance, I just think natural light looks a little bit better. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted December 27, 2005 Governor Posted December 27, 2005 What do you mean it doesn't make a difference but natural lighting looks a little better? Obviously there is a difference and the natural lighting is the better of the two. Of course there are advantages and disadvantages with both lighting sources. The artifical lighting you have better control over but it doesn't look as the nice. The natural lighting can produce a wide variety of results depending on the time of day and year its being harnessed. The downside is if you want the exact same conditions again it might never come because the next day the sun is going to be in a slightly different position and environmental factors (like clouds for example) are going to have an effect. This MOC looks like its being luminated by lighting from the warm afternoon sun which is very effective. Would be achievable with aritifical lighting unless you tint the lighting source with the colour of material. Quote
Norro Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 This is a nice compact castle (no easy achievement) I like almost everything but some of the design around the windows iis not my fav... God Bless, Nathan Quote
Dreamweb Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 I especially like the cellar - it's a great idea to put the ground level above the baseplate level which makes room for the cellar, and make it a house on a hill using BURPS - that way if you place it adjacent to another building built just on a baseplate, not elevated, it will fit. Clever! Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted January 8, 2006 Governor Posted January 8, 2006 A cellar is an excellent place to store grog! Quote
Dreamweb Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 And it IS used to store grog, unless it's water these guys are drinking :) Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted January 9, 2006 Governor Posted January 9, 2006 What did they drink in medieval times? Ale? Quote
Sir Dillon Posted January 9, 2006 Author Posted January 9, 2006 Thanks for the replies guys! *satis* I'm glad you like the cellar phes, I wasn't sure if you would like it or not, considering it takes the place of a prison and/or torture chamber. ;) As for what they store down there; they probably have some water stored up, but that is def not what those two guys are drinking :oD Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted January 9, 2006 Governor Posted January 9, 2006 Just water? Where's the grog kept then? Quote
Sir Dillon Posted January 9, 2006 Author Posted January 9, 2006 No only some of it is water. It's probably kept in a few of the barrels to the side. The rest is grog. Quote
