SET REVIEW: 1733 & 1713 Shipwrecked Pirate

Strictly speaking as an imperial man what I really like about this set is it's so easy to take aim and have pot shots at that vermin pirate. He can't go anywhere in much of a hurry and we can use our ships to cut him down. :-P

I actually preferred most of those island sets over this one. Barnacle Bay in particular was a nice little set, with the Imperial camp and Pirate shack--which, in a theme lacking civillian structures, could easily be made into a makeshift beach storefront. (It'd complement Smuggler's Shanty quite nicely.) At one point I remember sticking all the little island sets together to make a medium-sized destination for the Pirates. Ahh, those were the days!

(Of course, since I also refused to modify any of my sets at that age, this particular island had pirate flags sticking up everywhere like so many McDonald's signs. But still...)

Of course, the best reason for not liking this set is that there was already a much superior version out there. But then, I always was a snob when comparing older Pirates to newer Pirates--I didn't realize that there might not be any Pirates at all one day...not until it was too late... :(

barnacle bay(this is just a burp with some bricks slapped on. Sure it includes some figs but it certainly doesnt have a better design than the shipwrecked pirate.)

Hm.. it's deffinitely not brilliant! But's okay.. ands it's a pirate. I gave i 3.. and now when i think about it I might should have given it 2, 'caus as said: there no big deal there. No funny new details or anything.

If the yellow was brown, it'd be a 3, because brown is amazingly useful for a medieval/ pirate era collection. And a cheap pirate set nowadays can't go wrong!

I can't believe that this set belong to a range to "2" to "3". It should deserved a little higher for a very small pirate set. In fact, I had never own big pirate sets like most of you here. Although I always wished I had a chance to own them, but this small little set also deserve a little bit of shine.

Maybe, this was one of the first few LEGO Pirates sets, which my friend gave me, and I always treasure it very much. Many have noted that the raft is not really up to standard as the color scheme is wrong and should be likely in brown. Well, I can't fault them for using yellow. At that time, it seemed yellow was a common color in Pirates themes and brown parts was not commonly available as well.

More plus points for this set. Who do not want an extra Pirate crew on board your vessel? The printed flag is an excellent part piece to be included into your assortment. Apart from the raft's color scheme which is not suitable, other than that, I think it's a very neat little set that deserved to be part of the Pirates theme especially for those whom are not able to afford the bigger ships.

Just to share with you, how I make use of this set in my upcoming review.

Ideally, most of you wish that the raft can be something like this below.

This was my first pirate set, and one of my first LEGO sets, so I'm a bit biased due to nostalgia. However, I do think that the log-raft look is done in a rather clever way (although they really should have used brown cylinders instead of yellow).

If you were to use this on it's own, it's pointless. There is no creativity and no special parts. The useful parts are the pirate and the flag. It gets a rating of one.
