iamded Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Have I posted in this topic? I dunno. Well, I'll just start. I love me some Adventure Time with Finn and Jake. It's the perfect balance of immaturity, crazy story-telling, and the more mature humour that makes for a great cartoon. Currently making my way through season 3, when I'm in the mood for sittin' back and watching cartoons. As for this whole 'My Little Pony' fanaticism... well, yeah, sure. It's a neat show. Perhaps it's because I'm a design student and I love the artistic style that Lauren Faust uses. Perhaps it's because it's so innocent and nice, yet still awesome and entertaining. Perhaps it's just because I find sonic rainbooms totally awesome. It's hard to pin it down. Quote
Batbrick Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Oh, and welcome to the herd, Batbrick! Yes, welcome to the herd, Batbrick! Thanks guys! Though I have been folling the show since mid last year. Have I posted in this topic? I dunno. Well, I'll just start. I think you're on the first page actually with Brave and the Bold. So good start there. I love me some Adventure Time with Finn and Jake. It's the perfect balance of immaturity, crazy story-telling, and the more mature humour that makes for a great cartoon. Currently making my way through season 3, when I'm in the mood for sittin' back and watching cartoons. Oh hell yes. Adventure Time is freakin' awesome. Princess Bubblegum cracks me up, and the episode with the Duke is one of the most weirdly awesome things I've ever seen. You'll be coming up to "No One Can Hear You" soon. That episode is creepily effective. I think someone on another forum summed up what makes it so good to me, that underneath its silliness and craziness, the surroundings of the world they live in are really depressing and post-apocalyptic, but the main character's optimism means he believes it can be better, and as a result it is. Also its got a Vampire Queen who plays guitar. Which is awesome. As for this whole 'My Little Pony' fanaticism... well, yeah, sure. It's a neat show. Perhaps it's just because I find sonic rainbooms totally awesome. It's hard to pin it down. Defiintely sonic rainboom. Actually, I'll post my full reasons for liking it here that I put elsewhere: Its a good show with great, developed morals and more nuanced storytelling than most films I've seen. It has neat character subversions and great references (never thought I'd see The Big Lebowski references in an MLP cartoon). The animation is also amazing. And just as importantly, I'm a strong supporter of any cartoon for girls that isn't just excusing itself as terrible because of its target audience and instead giving positive messages outside of the typical Barbie cliche. And also because it represents a lot about the whole New Sincerity movement of approaches to texts that I love - no longer basking in irony and satire and taking things apart but instead unironically making a sweet and optimistic product that is simply fantastic. By the way I love your avatar iamded. Quote
iamded Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 You'll be coming up to "No One Can Hear You" soon. That episode is creepily effective. I actually saw that one early, a friend linked a youtube video of it in 1080p, I couldn't resist. Yes, that is one of the more unsettling episodes that makes you question if it's really a kids show after all... That is true. And yes, Marceline is indeed awesome. You make good points about Friendship is Magic, particularly that last line there. Well said. And thanks for the avatar compliment, I put that together myself. I do love me some Scott Pilgrim. Quote

It just seems so immature most of the time and just feels like a bad MLP rip-off to me. Also, that whole Bro-talk between the two heroes seems out of place for me. It fits better into shows like Regular Show (which I like quite a lot). Defiintely sonic rainboom. Hear, hear! Oh, and the Sonic Rain-nuke is 20% cooler than the Rainboom! By the way I love your avatar iamded. Same here, and I don't even know much about Scott Pilgrim outside of the movie. I love your title too, by the way. I actually have a woody right now! Lots of them, in fact. And Buzz Lightyears too. Quote

It fits better into shows like Regular Show (which I like quite a lot). Hold on, wait, that kind of threw me off. Adventure Time came in back in 2008, a good 2 years before Regular Show and Friendship is Magic (which is really an entirely different style than that of Adventure Time, and I don't understand the comparison). Sure, it's immature, but from what I've gathered from Regular Show, that's pretty immature too. Immaturity isn't necessarily a bad thing. But y'know, to each their own. Adventure Time has that certain style and charm that not everyone appreciates, I can understand that. I haven't seen any episodes of Regular Show before, and I'd probably enjoy it, but for the moment I'm sticking with Adventure Time. Quote
Perry the Platypus Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 (edited) You guys don't like the new episode of MLP? I thought it was interesting at the end. Who knew Granny Smith could create Ponyville? Just saw the new Phineas and Ferb episodes (Doof Dynasty and Excaliferb) on Verizon On Demand. I am very surprised by both episodes. In Doof Dynasty, which takes place in feudal China, Isabella is the princess and Monogram is HER FATHER? Yes, I was confused a bit, too. Perry is some sort of fighting warrior that retired long ago, and Phineas and Ferb go to find him so that they can learn the way of the warrior and save Isabella from beig kidnapped by Doofus Khan. Very funny, and the music is always great (IT'S THE WAY OF THE PLATYPUS!) Excaliferb is the worse of the two. It take place in Medieval times, and Phineas and Ferb-a-Lot go to find the sword Excaliferb to take down the evil sorcerer Meddleshmirtz. One point of interest was that Perry was a dragon! I know; it's just the feeling that I get from it since it is set in a very similar world with adventures and rainbows and unicorns and cupcakes and such. Sure, it's immature, but from what I've gathered from Regular Show, that's pretty immature too. Immaturity isn't necessarily a bad thing. That's true, but RS is immature in a college student kind of way, unlike AT which just feels like a silly kids cartoon to me. I dunno, maybe it's just me. Quote
sok117 Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 I like Regular Show and Adventure time, however If I had to pick a favourite, I'd asy Regular Show. Regular Show just seems so out there yet really funny at the same time. I feel like they are both really similer though, so It's really which characters you identify with better, I love Jake and Tree Trunks, but Rigby and Mortici really make me laugh. Quote

Perry the Platypus Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 Perry the Dragonpus! He was actually Perrible the Dragonpus. There was one more episode that was set in Cave times that I forgot to mention here. Perry was Perry the Abunkagwunk! Quote
just2good Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 I never really liked the FineBros on Youtube, but I was somehow linked to their latest video. In the video, they announced that their next video was going to be "Teens React to MLP:FiM". This means that on Sunday, a whole bunch of annoying little kids who think they know everything and thin that they're "so random" are either going to ridicule fans of MLP/bronies or become bronies. Be prepared. Quote

Great points, Batbrick! I think the Flash animation style fits the show's attitude perfectly, and makes it so much more adorable than it would have been with 3D animation. The animators pay very close attention to detail, and their hard work shows. The episodes are always so colorful and fun, and every aspect of the animation is very unique (apart from all the Lyra clones! ). Plus, all the musical numbers are absolutely amazing, thanks to Daniel Ingram, the show's musical composer. My personal favorites are Becoming Popular (The Pony Everypony Should Know), Winter Wrap Up, Art of the Dress, and At the Gala. Also, the whole team is very in-touch with the brony fanbase. Like you said, they add lots of great references (Apart from The Big Lebowski ponies in 'The Cutie Pox', there's also been the "The punch has been Spiked!" in 'Owl's Well that Ends Well' and the BTAS type posters for Mare-Do-Well in 'The Mysterious Mare-Do-Well'), and Lauren Faust herself answers the fans' questions on her DeviantArt page (although she's no longer technically part of the team). I'm sure nobody expected the brony fanbase to exist, or for it to be this large, but the FiM team has really embraced the community. Oh, and the Sonic Rain-nuke is 20% cooler than the Rainboom! Yes, but sonic rainbooms cause 20% less property damage. I guess it's a trade-off... I never really liked the FineBros on Youtube, but I was somehow linked to their latest video. Peanuts Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 Agreed. Pinkie's so hilarious. Yeah, we haven't had a Pinkie episode for too long. I just finished it, and I must say, it was really fun and cute. One of the best episodes of season two so far, in my opinion. Though I'd really like a logical explanation for those babies having superpowers Anyway, it was a fun episode after all. Quote
Tamamono Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 Yeah, we haven't had a Pinkie episode for too long. I just finished it, and I must say, it was really fun and cute. One of the best episodes of season two so far, in my opinion. I agree, the episode was great! Though I'd really like a logical explanation for those babies having superpowers I'm pretty confused about that too. Even Scootaloo can just barely hover, but Pound Cake was able to fly, for some reason. And Pumpkin Cake was showing Twilight-caliber magic. Quote
Oky Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 I'd really like a logical explanation for those babies having superpowers Anyway, it was a fun episode after all. These are pegasi are unicorns we're talking about, there is no logic! It's like Twilight and Rarity said though, babies get power surges sometimes. It's like in Harry Potter when Harry did magical feats as a young boy, but then had to learn to control it. I've seen it several times before, which is why the whole episode felt a bit been-there-done-that, but it was still cute. I still like Party of One better though, and nothing beats the first three episodes of this season! Quote

CM4Sci Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 I see some of you also watched "Baby Cakes" today, too! That was a great episode, those foals were pretty funny. Pound Cake reminds me of Doctor Whooves. Anyone spot Derpy? -Sci Quote
Oky Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 Eenope. There was a baby unicorn with her color scheme in the first scene, but other than that, no. She was absent from the last episode too. Maybe that's why these episodes weren't quite as good as previous ones. Quote
