Hobbes Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 Proves that vikings did live peaceful: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery....y.cgi?i=1495691 Enjoy :) Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted November 23, 2005 Governor Posted November 23, 2005 Is this our first Viking MOC??? Its the first for this forum at least... Quote
snefroe Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 it's in any case the first viking village i've seen... the idea is great, but i think it's a bit boring... not enough people, not enough detailed houses, not enough colour Quote

I can imagine, at least... maybe... sure, no problem, but you'd expect a little bit more activity in a village, like children running around, carts filled with trees, branches,... horses,... Quote
Sting Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 I can just see this person walking out of Toys R Us with 10 of the new Viking Longboat sets lol Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted November 24, 2005 Posted November 24, 2005 This MOC reminds me of Lincoln Logs. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted November 24, 2005 Governor Posted November 24, 2005 Is it just me or is this MOC a bit boring? Quote
Starwars4J Posted November 24, 2005 Posted November 24, 2005 Is it just me or is this MOC a bit boring? It's not just you. Keep in mind, though, that this MOC was made pre-Vikings (the sets), so that's why the longboats look a little different. What really gets me is the shore though, it looks almost concrete! Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted November 24, 2005 Governor Posted November 24, 2005 Yeah, I thought it looked like that as well. I thought it was their car park or something... Quote
Hobbes Posted November 24, 2005 Author Posted November 24, 2005 What might add to the "boringness" might be the walls behind/around the display. It looks like a cabin, so there's lots of brown on the pictures. The village itself, I'm afraid, looks pretty realistic. And I've seen shores that grey or black. I don't know if they exist in the north but they do exist. Nevertheless, MOCs don't have to be that realistic, I guess, a few colors couldn't have hurt ;) Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted November 24, 2005 Governor Posted November 24, 2005 The MOCers of the world need to establish an equilibrium between their realism and the number of colours :D Quote
Dreamweb Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 It's... it's... big :) And I like it very much, it's very realistic, not every MOC has to be colourful, I like the way it's so toned down. And yes, the ships are made of Pirate theme hulls, they could use some sails though. Oh, and the colour of the shore isn't bad either, it reminds me of gravelly beaches. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted November 29, 2005 Governor Posted November 29, 2005 Gravelly beaches don't look roads do they? Quote
mutant piraka Posted December 11, 2005 Posted December 11, 2005 just to say... my dad is an archeologist and when he looked at the name of the MOC (kaupang) he showed me on the net a viking town of the same name in denmark! ;) anyway nice MOC but needs more activity *viki* Quote
Beagle Posted December 11, 2005 Posted December 11, 2005 Holy cow that's a lot of brown slopes. Quote
Evil Willy Posted December 11, 2005 Posted December 11, 2005 I can just see this person walking out of Toys R Us with 10 of the new Viking Longboat sets lol Those are actually normal Pirate/Imperial boats...This guy seems to never have even bought 1 viking set...It lacks minifig but the history seems right...That is problem what viiking incampment would have looked like Quote
crispen Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 well..... its not very good really. but it took awhile probaly! ~crispen Quote
Lost Viking Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 Ya its alright, like others have said, it lacks figs and action. Quote
MattZitron Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 Expect my first Viking MOC soon. Because I didn't like the Viking Catapault much, mine's now a VIKING FLYING MACHINE!!! Quote

MattZitron Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 That sounds... interesting Matt :D . I cant wait to see what you come up with! I gave myself half an hour, and only used parts from the catapault bar one clip to hold an Axe. Pics to follow!!! Quote
Norro Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 I actually like these ships (with modification) better than the new Lego ones... but of course the village needs more... God Bless, Nathan Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted January 8, 2006 Governor Posted January 8, 2006 just to say...my dad is an archeologist and when he looked at the name of the MOC (kaupang) he showed me on the net a viking town of the same name in denmark! You don't happen to have the link to the website still? Quote
KimT Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 Ahem... Kaupang was not in Denmark, but in Norway and it was a large Norse (Viking) tradepost. here's a link with more info KimT *viki* Quote
