Toa of Whimsy Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 Hello! Whimsy here again! You'll figure out what this thread is about once you read the following lines: Vorox- Scorpions Zesk- Scorpions Tarduk- Ape/Gorilla Antroz- Dragon/Bat Vamprah- Bat Chirox- Winged Monkey?/Bat Gorast- Fly/Mosquito Bitil- Beetle Krika- Cricket/Locust Shadow Matoran- Dragon/Bats Twilight Takanuva- Giant Panda (okay, this one is a joke) Takadox- Praying Mantis Ehlek- Eel Carapar- Crab Kalmah- Squid Pridak- Shark Mantax- Manta Ray Piraka- Apes/Gorillas (?) Visorak- Spiders Nidhiki- Spider/Bug Sidorak- Ram/Goat (Note his "horns", especially in the CGI of Web of Shadows) Toa Hordika- Lizards Rahaga- Lizards/Turtles Rakhshi- Lizards/Dinosaurs Bohrok- Pillbugs/Wasps/Beetles Kraata- Worms Toa Gali Nuva (2003)- Monkey (look at her mask) Toa Lewa Nuva (2003)- Squirrel (stylized "teeth" on mask)- or maybe some kind of wildcat Toa Lewa (2000)- Bird (his mask looks a little like it has a beak.) Yes it seems some LEGO sets have animal-based design and the characters that those sets are of have or are capable of possessing "human-like" traits such as "sentience". They are in effect "anthromorphized animals". What do you think? Have I missed any or got some wrong? Is this a trend you don't like in LEGO BIONICLE sets, or is it one that should continue? Or do you just want to punch me for bringing this up? If you asked my opinion- I would only say we need more hero characters/Toa who look like anthromorphised animals. I would gladly pay you Tuesday for a Toa of Fire whose mask resembles a lion today.
Kakihara Smile Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 I've always loved the more animalistic designs myself... So, I think we could use more of them ;) Malum always reminded me of an ape. I got the feeling he was supposed to walk on all fours likea gorilla, using thyose claws as knuckles but mabe that is just me. A ccouple of the toa from the pit resembles things too. Like Hewkee always looked like a sea-urchin to me.

And judging by his story role it does seem fitting that Malum would look a little bestial seeing as he's lost his "hnau" traits (hnau is a word made up by C.S. Lewis for sentients, because "humanity" makes no sense with non-humans) a little living with them scorpion men.
Bundalings Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Gali Nuva looks like a pig rather than a monkey, to me. ~Bunda
Toa of Whimsy Posted April 22, 2009 Author Posted April 22, 2009 Gali Nuva looks like a pig rather than a monkey, to me.~Bunda Pigs have snouts that stick out their heads shaped like upside-down triangles. Gali's "snout" does not extend from her mask that much and it isn't even triangular. Therefore monkey. Or at least not pig. And now your mentioning pigs has the "YOU MUST DIE" soundbite from the CD-i Zelda games playing in my head again and again.
