martinsuper Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 Working on my port on the idea of a civil war between the Blue Coats and the Red Coats. I was toying with mini-figs like I always do on my "LEGO Sundays" and I came up with a combo for my "blue coat special forces", the Black Coats. I have always tried to use the pirate captain torso to make it into some sort of soldier with varried degrees of success. I have some flickr links with what I came up with so far. What photo site does everyone else use to post their pictures because I am not able to do it with flickr it seems? The bayonet idea I saw in one of the MOC forums, and is not my idea. I have seen others use the captain torso for troops, but I think Im the first with this combo. If I'm not, let me know. Also, I have been thinking about giving my Black Coats either red or black "gloves". What do you think, red, black, or leave it just as hands? I will probably give the Black Coat Officer a side bag and a black pistol. Opinions? Quote

Zorro Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 Well done, looks really nice. The bayonet is ingenious! And the skull is creative also. Quote
martinsuper Posted April 13, 2009 Author Posted April 13, 2009 The "new captain torso" Black Coats I will probably make into a squad of 10-12 (including officer) that will be a reoccuring theme in my MOCs. The "old captain torso" Black Coats will be mixed into my colonial militia. Quote
General Armendariz Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 Sweet Idea for the Bayonets! Those troops are like, Police for the Port! Or mabye Facists! That Bayonet design was made by Fat tony Oh and nice "Early 1800's Policeman" Quote
martinsuper Posted April 13, 2009 Author Posted April 13, 2009 That Bayonet design was made by Fat tony Oh and nice "Early 1800's Policeman" Thanks for the "citation". Kudos to Fat tony for the bayonet idea. Like I said before, it was NOT my idea. My Black Coats will all have black weapons, and maybe black or red gloves? And the skull is creative also. My inspiration for the skull was from "Lord of the Flies" when they put the pig head on the spear. Quote
Dr. Steve Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 I really like the what you did here. If you don't mind I might use your minifig in my fort that I am building. I would suggest using a different color hand...Either red or black would look good Great Job! Quote

I think Im going to use black hands for the troopers, as they already have a lot of red. For the officer (classic city fireman torso) I will give him red "gloves" Like I said before, I want these guys to be the "signature" of my MOCs. Quote
Joey Lock Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 Oh and nice "Early 1800's Policeman" Yes yes, Quite. In Western culture, the contemporary concept of a police paid by the government was developed by French legal scholars and practitioners in the 17th and early 18th centuries. The first police force in the modern sense was created by the government of King Louis XIV in 1667 to police the city of Paris. Quote
Captain Blackmoor Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 (edited) Hmm I think I would leave the yellow hands since there are small yellow (gold looks like yellow) details in the minifig. Red or black "gloves" makes it more a spooky squad. Black guns are so darn expensive... I agree with all the above about the bayonet: Nice! I thought Town Watch was the first kind of policeman, special light armed troops to keep order in cities. The Romans had them already! Edited April 13, 2009 by Cap'n Blackmoor Quote

The Romans had them already! #1 I want them to look spooky, scary, and totally ruthless blood spilling soldiers. So, maybe yes on gloves? #2 Yes Black guns are expensive, but Im going to bite the bullet and outfit these guys right! #3 EVERYONE STOP CALLING THESE GUYS POLICEMEN! I want them to be a squad of ruthless murdering, vicious, Blue Coat special forces. I have the idea of several MOCs with poor red coats getting mowed down, or pirates getting some of their own medicine. Quote
Captain Blackmoor Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 Allright, maybe Elite infantry is a better name? About the black guns: everything for the best! But they are hard to find as well since they came only in the Samurai sets. Perhaps yes on gloves, but I still like the bare yellow hands. Now off to BL and exchange your money for bricks! Quote

Derfel Cadarn Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 Nice ideas going on there. Its good to find a use for those captain torsos cause you allways end up with quite a few. Are you planning on making a big port? I'd like to create my dream port when i get the time. Nice work. Quote
martinsuper Posted April 13, 2009 Author Posted April 13, 2009 Are you planning on making a big port? I'd like to create my dream port when i get the time. Nice work. You summed it up. It's going to be a big port, and the challenge is to incorporate original sets and MOCs together, AND make it look right. Its something I wanted to do as a kid, but I didn't have: 1. Money 2. Cash 3. Bricklink 4. Ebay 5. Currency 6. Greenbacks I also want to leave parts of it open so that as I create some new MOCs I can work them into it. Its a three part construction: 1. Channel into the port and all that entials. (this is where I am right now, hope to finish this in a month or so. 2. Actual Port (have all the parts I need for this, but need to get part one done first) 3. Port buildings, barracks, etc... (this will be what I add new pieces to) -Super Quote
Captain Blackmoor Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 Sounds very promising! I'm looking forward to the first modules! I'm currently building a port as well, tomorrow another BL order arrives and then I'm going to upgrade my pub and start the construction of the governor's recidence. Quote

I wonder if there is a black back pack...that would also look good on the soldiers Quote

What do you think, red, black, or leave it just as hands?Opinions? I would defenitly go for gloves, not red ones because that would look odd. Black or even brown should do the trick. Off course making them look like murdering bastards only works with black. Quote

If you go back and look at the second picture, I am going to give the regular troops black gloves, but the "officer" (old city fireman torso) red gloves because he doesnt have enough red. Black backpacks would be cool. However, black side sachels would be WAY cooler! Quote
