hewkii9 Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 So. Assassin's Creed II. Awesome. Thoughts? To aid you in your investigations - I pummeled an innocent preacher and all I got was this lousy info Look what I saw from a view point - Woo hoo! Quote
CF Mitch Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 Wow ! Thanks for the news mate ! God I can't wait for this game to arrive. I really love his outfit, a lot more... classy(?) than the one in the first, which looked kinda like rags to me I hope more news comes up quick now Thanks again Greetings, CF W Quote
Darth_Legois Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 I really love his outfit, a lot more... classy(?) than the one in the first, which looked kinda like rags to me I agree, the outfit looks better. Also I love one of the comments made on that site "Man i wonder how many games does it take for the Assassin to have all their fingers replaced by knives..." I might have to get this game I know my brother in-law will he loved the first one. Quote
Sandy Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 What's with the hype? I thought the first game was deemed as a short, pretentious graphics-fest with no real enjoyable substance beyond the surface. Granted, I haven't played the game myself, but that's what I heard many people say. Quote

I thought the first game was deemed as a short, pretentious graphics-fest with no real enjoyable substance beyond the surface. Granted, I haven't played the game myself, but that's what I heard many people say. The first one seems to be the sort of thing you either love or hate - I can see where people are coming from when they say it's repetitive or has a crappy ending, but my view is I love jumping around and stabbing 'innocent' Templars. Plus the game itself was really heavily hyped, and this once seems to fix a bunch of flaws [more investigations, day/night cycle, the assassinations are a lot different considering one involves a glider]. I recommend the first one. Quote
CF Mitch Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 I agree on the fact that it was short, but everything looked terrific, and the things the character could do, AMAZING I swear I have never seen that in ány game before and I can't wait to see how it will all look in an italian setting Greetings, CF W Quote
Holy Diver Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 I was personally hoping for it to be set in feudal Japan with a Ninja brotherhood that worked in conjunction with the Assassins. But a game based around the power struggles in Renaissance Italy can't be too bad. Quote

CP5670 Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 This could be very good if they fix up all the issues in the first game. The first game had a number of great ideas and I liked it overall, but it had tons of glaring flaws as well (especially on the PC version). The main improvement I would like to see is a proper save game feature, instead of the flag/checkpoint nonsense. Quote
hewkii9 Posted April 13, 2009 Author Posted April 13, 2009 The main improvement I would like to see is a proper save game feature, instead of the flag/checkpoint nonsense. I don't mind the lack of a proper save game [personally I found having to save everytime I stopped playing Prince of Persia a bit bothersome, but that's another thread]. I liked how it would automatically save every time you did something notable, so you didn't lost progress by forgetting to save. Another thing I would like for ACII is a finite population in each city - I tried to assassinate the entire population of Damascus several times but failed due to citizens respawning. It'd be cool to be able to go back and see the thinned out crowds in some parts of the city. Speaking of that I might also like the citizens to actually go places. Quote

I liked how it would automatically save every time you did something notable, so you didn't lost progress by forgetting to save. It didn't save all that often from what I remember. The game was already unusually repetitive, but the lack of saves made it twice as bad since you had redo a lot of things if you died. There were also some major technical and interface issues, such as the fixed 16:9 aspect ratio, EAX instability, various menu quirks and the infamous 11 commands needed to exit the game. Some of these issues really gave you the impression that the developers don't actually play games and don't know what gamers want. The story was great until the end, when they kind of ruined it with the alien stuff that didn't really fit in. Despite its flaws though, I liked the game for its originality. The large crowds were something I had wanted to see in games for a long time and really added to the atmosphere, and the combat system and nonlinear level design were very good as well. hewkii9 Posted April 13, 2009 Author Posted April 13, 2009 The story was great until the end, when they kind of ruined it with the alien stuff that didn't really fit in. What alien stuff? I wasn't aware that Assassin's Creed was based off Indy 4! If you mean the piece of Eden, I felt it fit it perfectly - it feeds all the conspiracy theories the game mentions [even more so if you read the emails], it gives a reason for the Templars to want the memory of Al Mualim's death, and it was just pretty darn cool IMO. Quote
CP5670 Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 Yeah, I meant that and the stuff written on the walls everywhere at the end. I read all the emails, but it still seemed out of place in the gritty, realistic setting up to that point. I guess the fact that Al Mualim's behavior at the end didn't fit in at all with his personality throughout the rest of the game also had to do with it. Although I did like the parallel sci-fi story angle otherwise. Quote
Skipper 24 Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 The time era sounds good but I really hope that the game play isn't as repetitive as the original. I prefered the original costume now it looks to grand to be for an assassin IMO. Looks like no more throwing knives but dual hidden knives . Quote
CF Mitch Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 I hardly used the throwing knives.... whenever I got shot by archers on the roof I just leaped (leapt?), jumped and lunged with my hidden blade Hence the fact that I like the dual hidden blades as well I never really noticed the kind of glitches you people mention here... then again I never seem to notice faults in games ever so... Can't really remember any of the alien-stuff... gotta play the game again I suppose... is there anyway to play the 'present time' parts without the Altair parts ? I guess not though Greetings, CF W Quote
hewkii9 Posted April 17, 2009 Author Posted April 17, 2009 There's still throwing knives - they're actually the only non-fists and hidden blade weapon you carry. I think that the swords, maces, axes, and such are all ones that you have to pickpocket from a guard to use. Quote
