Natman8000 Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 (edited) As I was going through my Minifigs, I noticed that the new 2009 figures so far have much more printing and detail than minifigs from previous years. For instance, the new Power miners have leg and back printing-like this guy or this one. These minfigs also have great detail on their heads and torso fronts. I find it strange that the minifgs have so much printing whilst the pieces of a set (more important IMO) use stickers. This could be a marketing technique because we all love great Minifigs. Here is an example of last years minifig that has less printing-a troll Also there has been an abundance of double sided heads- which is really good. Edited March 10, 2009 by Natman8000 Quote
Sandy Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 I agree with you on this. Not only are minifigs getting more detailed, they're also getting more versatile. Just look at the amount of individual minifigs we're getting from Castle and Pirate themes alone! Some people might like to collect an army of clones, but I like my minifigs unique. Quote
Dadster Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Overall, I think the MF's are getting better with more detailed torsos and legs. Quote
Lordofdragonss Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Yeah, Were geting more and more women minifigs, and beautifull double printed torsos! Many double-faces and dont forget about cuttest figs- Rock monsters! Quote
The Green Brick Giant Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 They are much better, look at the new aliens verse the aliens on the past. Then there are the town minifigures with the new hair pieces look great. The $50 Agents 2.0 set has a few minifigures that are just amazing, there is the old Space shirt that is simple, yet effective. Quote
Ricecracker Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Nice poll idea, however I think you should've waited until the end of the year. I haven't voted yet, because I am not sure. Firstly, I'd like to say that double sided heads aren't always a good thing, especially when using a Construction Helmet, or baseball cap. Secondly, I actually like having stickers for many pieces, so that you can use the pieces for more uses, and if you desire, you can put the designs on other pieces. What'd be nice is if you were to add an "I'm impartial," an "I'm waiting until the end of the year," or an "Other" option for the poll. Quote
Natman8000 Posted March 10, 2009 Author Posted March 10, 2009 Here's what I'll do. I'll change it to 2009 so far. OK? Quote
Algernon Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 I voted "maybe a few". I think that there is some definite improvement with certain minifigs, such as Space, Pirates, Castle, etc... but some themes (mainly Star Wars) have been coming out with the ugliest minifigs I've ever seen. Clone Wars FTL. Quote

Skinny Boy Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 I would have to agree they are getting better (all the ti-ee-ime!). For instance, I saw these three great minifig's that will all be featured in the new Agent's Mecha. Though the Mech doesn't impress me, the rest does! Quote
JCC1004 Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 I just hope they don't overprint them like the Cloud City Boba. Too much printing will make other other figs look bad. I do like the more printing though. Now just to get those darn bricks printed! Quote
mania3 Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Yeah, they are honestly great. I've noticed that just about every MF from 2009 has a double sided torso. Even the minifigures in the big farm set have them, I noticed just yesterday as I was building it. So cool! Quote

That is easily the best Mech we've gotten in a long time... way better than Exo-Force. Quote
Peppermint_M Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 The new minifigs so far and for the future are pretty good. I do like the increase in female figures, it is certainly reaching a level we haven't had since 2000. For all I know a new lot will turn up that'll blow it all away (in a good or bad way) so I think i am going to wait until this time next year to let you know Quote

I know. The legs are really good with the disks. And the civies... 2 new faces, 3 new torsos, and red trace hair. That could easily be one of the best minifig sets in a while. And the chap with the red sunglasses. That alone is a must buy Edited March 10, 2009 by Natman8000 Quote

Klonoa Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 No, I don't think so. Call me old, but I prefer the simpler designs of minifigures of the past. I think those suited the minifigure better. I think that the complexity of the designs today look awkward when compared to the simplicity of the minfigure itself. Quote

Algernon Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 I respect your opinion but modern minifigs next to todays sets is a must do. The detail in sets is so much better now. I think this depends on how modern is modern. Even figs in the 90s had detail and interesting designs. Hell, Ice Planet 2002 had some of the most detailed and cool looking minifigs ever. Quote
Darth Legolas Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 I chose "What's a Minifig?" I do think that this is the best minifig year this year. It's winning anyways. Quote

Sandy Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 Call me old. Old. Remember that you can freely stick to your clone-like smiley-faced minifigs who come in a whopping five different colors, no need to buy any of the new sets. In my opinion you'll be missing out on a lot in that case... Quote
