They should appear as disguised time travellers, for instance the ship in question should look just like a normal ship from the outside, no silly wings, propellers etc, but with computers and stuff like this hidden inside, not visible to strangers, so that noone would know they are actually from another time. I always picture the paint wearing off... maybe a time-lapse shipwreck would be cool. Starting with the grey hull and a lot of pieces and then moving to brown and less around it (as more has been washed away...)
