xwingyoda Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 OK guys, here is the poll Dreamweg wanted !!!! Lets continue the discussion here and I will lock the other thread !!! Enjoy guys ;) Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted October 28, 2005 Governor Posted October 28, 2005 So not even an administrator can add a poll to a thread that doesn't already have one, or transfer posts from a thread to a another thread with a poll and be able to keep that poll? This doesn't sound good! I might have well done what Master Yoda has done, because I created a new thread with a poll but when I merged the posts from the old thread the poll vanished! Quote
MattZitron Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 I had this set, and liked it for its sheer insanity. I swear this line was made up by a kid, and that's why I really enjoyed it. It also bridged the gap between ALL System themes. P.S: I voted the wrong one. Meant to vote for the second one. Quote
languages Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 This was a wierd set...I got it in ASDA on discount..... It was great fun to build and if I can remember rightly, it came with a load of cool helmets. Another great Time Cruiser set was the boardgame..... Quote
xwingyoda Posted October 28, 2005 Author Posted October 28, 2005 Phes, sometimes simplicity is the more effective technique ;) Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted October 28, 2005 Governor Posted October 28, 2005 I wouldn't need simplicity if this message board had more features! Sheeezh! Some geek (PHP is open source so anyone who knows how to program it could do it - not referring to anyone specifically) could surely program the board so admins and moderators can add and remove polls to threads at whim. Or move posts from one thread to another thread without having to merge the entire thread. Anyway... Back to the topic... Here's my first post form the other thread: The colour of this hull has been used in no other set besides 6493. And yes, I thought this set would be great for pirate parts so I went and bought one off eBay then built it to see if all the parts were there. After I'd finished building I decided I liked it so much I decided that I'd keep it how it was and no use it for MOCs. What the pictures don't show you is when you push it along the floor the wings fap and the propellor spins! Forunately, no long after I was able to win the grey hull in another eBay auction for a ridiculously cheap price under US$2. Best eBay find I've ever made! So now I get to keep the set and I have a spare hull. PS. Master Yoda, you should post more in the Pirate (and Castle) Forum like you used to in the old days... Ahhh, the good old days! Quote
snefroe Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 i voted for the first one: good for parts, but that's it Quote
Dreamweb Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 Lets continue the discussion here and I will lock the other thread !!! Thanks anyway! I also think it's good for parts but not as good a set on its own. I have one and when I got it it was already assembled by previous owner, and I just took a look at it, moved to see the wings and propellor work and cannibalised it for parts. Now the hull is waiting for better times to be used in a MOC. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted October 28, 2005 Governor Posted October 28, 2005 I chose It's a valuable parts pack and a good set on its own - like it! Quote
Norro Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 I chose It's a valuable parts pack and a good set on its own - like it! Same, though I have been caught in the position of commeting on a set I don't own (I rarely do that). I have a funny selfish story about this one... I was at my Grandma's when the whole clan was having a get together (I rarely see my gps) and I was getting more pop from the storage room whan I came across this set. As it was thanksgiving I said "that's gotta be for me, who else is a Lego maniac in the fam?" Needless to say my cousin got it... To tie it back in...For my bday he gave me his lego. It had 1/2 this hull in it... and one green door as I've mentioned elsewhere! God Bless, Nathan Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted October 28, 2005 Governor Posted October 28, 2005 And what did you do with half that hull Mr Norro? Quote
JINZONINGEN73 Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 I almost voted "It's a valuable parts pack but nothing more", but then it hit me what it probably REALLY was... something purposefully designed INSANELY so as to not leave the buyer wanting to build it. And because it had so many themes, I can only assume this psychedelic monstrosity was meant as a gateway drug for the buyer to get other sets... to somehow validate the accident that was it's purchase. :oD It COULD be a good source of parts, but only if you already have themes that specific parts from it can go into. I swear this line was made up by a kid, and that's why I really enjoyed it. I swear this line was made up by an executive sitting at a boardroom table, who thought he had a slick idea to guilt people into getting other sets, and that's why I really hate it. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted October 28, 2005 Governor Posted October 28, 2005 While I like 6493, I don't like the other sets in the theme... They look like abominations of all the other themes! Quote
JINZONINGEN73 Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 They look like abominations of all the other themes! I'm sure that's by no accident, either. I dunno'... I'm sure they could've made a "bridging" type theme that touched on and increased interest in all the other Lego themes... but this certainly wasn't the way to design them. :P Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted October 28, 2005 Governor Posted October 28, 2005 What do you think would have been a better way to design them? Quote
JINZONINGEN73 Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 That's a toughie. *brainstorm brainstorm brainstorm* Probably a Stargate SG-1 type dealie... some kind of team, 3 guys, 1 chick, with some kind of portal gimmick that lands them in different themes. You could have space and like 2 other themes represented in each individual set. I think anyone'd be hard-pressed to think up an idea with knights, space, pirates and god knows what else all inside 1 single set though lol. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted October 29, 2005 Governor Posted October 29, 2005 I'm sure that's by no accident, either. Of course it wasn't an accident! The design executives at LEGO must have been scheming a theme that could combine all other themes and Time Cruisers was the result. Quote
optimus-convoy Posted October 29, 2005 Posted October 29, 2005 I remember getting this thing when it first came out. It was entertaining, with all those moving parts, and helmets galore. I still like the look of it, like a trippy pirate ship airplane space ship. but today it remains in pieces, spread into various mocs... ...so, fun set, nice parts. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted October 29, 2005 Governor Posted October 29, 2005 Prime, what do you use the grey hull for (out of curiosity) - if you use it at all that is... Quote
optimus-convoy Posted October 29, 2005 Posted October 29, 2005 Prime, what do you use the grey hull for (out of curiosity) - if you use it at all that is... well... I used the back half of it for this multi-purpose space ship. Lasuss The other half has not been used yet, but I'll probably use it for another space ship. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted October 30, 2005 Governor Posted October 30, 2005 Interesting... I never thought of using a ship hull for anything other than a ship hull. But then again I wouldn't want to build anything with a ship hull except for a ship hull. Or maybe a hideout made from a ship hull... Quote
Norro Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 And what did you do with half that hull Mr Norro? Nothing yet... if it was brown it would be a ship-wreck in the future. God Bless, Nathan Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted October 31, 2005 Governor Posted October 31, 2005 Aren't grey hulls suitable for shipwrecks? Quote
Norro Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 Aren't grey hulls suitable for shipwrecks? I always picture the paint wearing off... maybe a time-lapse shipwreck would be cool. Starting with the grey hull and a lot of pieces and then moving to brown and less around it (as more has been washed away...) God Bless, Nathan Quote
Dreamweb Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 The Time Cruisers would've been great if the concept of the line was different. They should appear as disguised time travellers, for instance the ship in question should look just like a normal ship from the outside, no silly wings, propellers etc, but with computers and stuff like this hidden inside, not visible to strangers, so that noone would know they are actually from another time.
