This looks like a very interesting base plate which I could use for my MOCs.

b3_1_b.JPG

But does anyone know which set it comes from?

I've put this thread in this forum because its the only forum I know these days and I'm at a loss which other forum to put it since I don't know the theme of the set it originated from.

usually i hate these type of plates because it's so difficult to build decent towers and castles on these, but for a pirate theme, this may be a good plate...

I wanted this baseplate badly but couldn't pay for the set...

There's one on eBay in my vicinity but...

The above base plate seems to sell for over US$20 on average and that's just waaaaaaaaaay to expensive for me. But maybe I'll get lucky on this one.

Yes I know. But people on eBay don't seem to know about BricLink which works to my advantage. If I had the link to auction where the last base plate like that I saw went above US$20 I'd post it. But alas, I didn't need it at the time so its gone.

Remember:

BrickLink is always cheaper for buying individual pieces but grossly over priced when it comes to buying sets.

eBay is usually cheaper for buying sets but usually grossly over price when it comes to buying pieces.

Well in my experiences anyway...

I always preferred sculpted landscapes over baseplates, since most baseplates don't transition well into other baseplates (unique patterns). Why not just build your own version of it? Much more fun, in my opinion.

Yes, but on Bricklink I can be a customer and heckle people about the quality of sets. Ever since I got a yellowed all to hell Cannon Cove from eBay I have been wary of it... I always ask many questions before I place a bid... if I get even a HINT that the set is in miserable shape, I don't even think twice about it...

I hope you never had to recieve lego in such bad condition - look out for blurry pictures - thats what got me!

I like that baseplate, but I'd rather use the large one from the Mayan Ruins Adventurers sets... I love how it is bigger and has the river flowing through it... not to mention easier to build on... maybe I will look into getting one...

(P.S. I actually built a decent MOC on the Baseplate in question, except with the pattern from the ISLANDERS FORBIDDEN ISLAND set... the much more jungle-ish one... it was pretty good... maybe I can find pictures!)

Wow, I have that baseplate. I don't use it very much, but now that I know how special it is I guess I will start using it more often.

At the moment I've got 333 postive feedback entries (not points) and zero negative or netural. So I assume that means I've won 333 items off eBay since I signed up a bit over 3 years ago. So could we say that I'm an exprienced eBay user? Am I! Am! I Am I!

It hasn't been a smooth ride 100% but I've never had a problem with LEGO sellers. For some auctions (usually the more expensive ones) I ask a heaps of questions and sometimes ask for more pictures. If the auction has plenty of time there is no reason you can't heckle eBay sellers too.

The differnce I've noticed between eBay and BrickLink is each eBay seller provides a picture of what they're selling, but with BrickLink the pictures comes from its database and the item's condition is described as new, used, poor, etc. So unless BrickLink sellers are willing to provide pictures of the item I'm intending to buy I would say eBay is more reliable.

I'd like that one as well but the last local one on eBay sold for over US$30 and there's no way I'm gonna be paying that much for one!

Yes find pictures! Take more if you still have the MOC! Put them in a new thread and will discuss...

If you never intend to use it again you can give it to me - I won't mind. :-D Otherwise get to work creating something with it right away then show us!

Yes but bases used well are great too! eg by Me, Myself, and I.

---Just bringing up the castle MOC tally ;) But seriously I think these make the point.

Alas, I do not have enough green, brown or blue plates and bricks at present to construct my own terrains so I rely upon cheap base plates.

Mr Norro, I've never seen that fort before. Go create a new thread for it and will discuss away merrily...

Sorry, which fort? And I will be happy to oblige...

are you sure, pirate? the baseplate you're talking about is a lot cheaper at bricklink:

http://www.bricklink.com/search.asp?invXre...28306&invType=F

Alas there are no Australian eBay sellers with such raised base plates...

As for eBay... Here's a recent one that went for over US$27....

Example 1

Another for around US$20...

Example 2

Anybody wanting to make a fortune out of Pirate LEGO needs to sell their stuff to Australians who will pay ridiculously high prices for it...

The 2nd design goes for a lot as it came in such an expensive useless set. The 1st one actally gets annoying if you don't have enough of the flat matching one.

I disagree Mr Norro... My first official MOC (which I'm dreaming up now) will contain at least two of these raised base plates. I've even contemplated designs using 4, but unless I want to pull my Pirates Perilous Pitfall apart then I only have 3 spare.

I like to use 2 raised but possibly one flat one leading out (as opposed to the circle.) I look forward to your MOC though.

God Bless you all,

Nathan

You might be looking forward for a while... My recent illness has cost me over $60 in medication so far. $60 that could have gone towards a digital camera! Those evil fairies!
