Has anyone made a custom LEGO Mermaid before?

Aren't there mermaid tails in some of the latest Harry Potter sets? Aside from those how would you go about making mermaid tails?

Are they? I'll have to check, if they're in small ones perhaps I'll get my first HP set (that'll be the day!). Otherwise I'll think of something :)

Maybe you'll come across some on eBay or BrickLink to save you the torture of buying a Harry Potter set.

Do you think its worth moving these posts to a LEGO Mermaid thread so we can expand upon the discussion without disrupting the current thread's topic?

Well we just don't know until we move it to another thread. In a new thread its more likely to get noticed and get response. But if not it can always be deleted or merged back into wence it came.

I took this image from this thread:

Well, looks like a mermaid to me, however I'd imagine mermaid's tail to be more errr... slender. Well this WILL require making a custom tail.

I actually got that set. I love the minifigs in flesh tone with the closed eyes (they made for great corpses), but I hated the mermaid. They made it so that you can make the mer...person stand. I don't think any merperson would be standing on that thing, it would have been much better to make it longer, and thinner...

I don't see anything wrong with them, but I don't think I could take a mer-person from a Harry Potter set and plonk it straight into a Pirate MOC. Even if the tail was used maybe the torso or head would have to be exchanged to look more appropriate. That head just doesn't sit right with me!

My point exactly. It should also have the ability to move to some degree... Then the mermaid can stand or sit on it, depending on the position of the tail.

BTW mermaids are my long-time friends because my city's emblem is a mermaid.

Well I'll plonk this in the thread despite facing nudity issues. Its the Coat of Arms of Warsaw afterall so it shouldn't be an issue.

Now lets have a closer look... At the fish tail that is... I like the way this mermaid tail curves upwards so she's not standing on the fins. If there was a LEGO version there could be a couple of stud holes underneath the curved part so it could connect to other bricks.

Yes, that would be a great idea. We can see something like this here (from Warsaw again, I won't put this picture into the thread because of its size).

Now another possibility would be a sitting mermaid.

This time something from Lego's home country - Copenhagen Mermaid.

To me this looks a woman who is setting on a fish that is diving into the water! But yes I kinda get the idea I think! Very statute posture too!

Hmmm... This is interesting, but how well would it translate into LEGO?

As I said, the tail could be mobile to some degree. Perhaps it should have hinges, or work in a way similar to Lego palm trees. Of course the second option is rather hard to achieve in a MOC (bricks of required shape and colour and with a similar type of connection to palm parts to my knowledge don't exist), while the first might look less realistic... Well I'm still going to try building something, I've got ideas, just little free time...

That's exactly what I meant. The way they have it "standing" is just unnatural. Having it curvier, with maybe some joint/hinge for SOME movablility

Ok you guys get building your custom tails! It'd be a miracle if LEGO came along and too heed of your curved tail suggestions so you're going to have to make them yourself. And then I will look at them and think "Ahhhhhhhhhhh... Excellent!!! Its about time I got up off my butt and got a digital camera"

Awesome Mermaid/men! All of them are done pretty good... although the Naga I think are based on Warcraft... which are almost Mermaids... but more like humanoid serpants...

It woud be interesting to see a screen capture of these critter, you don't have to have one or could make one?
