Here is a template I've created to custom design pattern for applying waterslide decals to train doors:

Train Door Left jpg

Train Door Right jpg

Train Door Left Illustrator template

Train Door Right Illustrator template

Illustrator dimensions for patterns:

Plate: .3 centimeters

Brick: ~ .9 centimeters

The way I was successful in getting the pattern right was to set up the pattern using those dimension. You end up about .5 centimeter short, so I select all of the objects and scale them the rest of the way. The result was exactly where I wanted it. :classic:

Potentially very useful, thanks for sharing these! :sweet:

Now... why are they 600k each? Once I managed to load them, a quick copy into Paintshop Pro and save (I use no jpeg compression) resulted in 15k files. I have no idea what is inflating them, but if you'd like my 15k copies... here and here.

This sounds like a pontentially useful thread, although for some reason Hink, your images aren't loading. So thanks for providing backup ImperialShadows, however that isn't working either. :hmpf_bad: Any ideas?

Perhaps some crazy problem on your end?

Shadows, there's a lot of meta-data since it came from an .ai file. Also they are set at a high resolution to print on a laser printer.

These templates are good stuff for folks who use illustrator. I should give links to illustrator files... :look:

I'll get to that.

Off to make my first custom train doors!

He is crazy, but in this case I think it's just that they just load painfully slow (and on my machine they triggered a warning I'd never seen before in any file I'd ever downloaded, so it's possible that his is flat out blocking them).

Yeah, I don't know a thing about all that except that the meta-data is useless to us and they're still reading as 300dpi, which is half what I usually use. I know that somewhere in all that I'm missing some kind of subtle point. Oh, my printer is crap, that's probably where I'm missing it.

I think I can handle those. I really need to take a class or something and step up to the vector world. It just always seems like for all it's advances, it limits future modification (well, complicates it beyond what most people know) and all my efforts at it have ended up slow and less precise than I can handle. Can you say "self-taught = suck"?

Sounds great, can't wait to see them!

Very neat Hinckley, these will certainly make it easier for train enthusiasts to replicate their favourite lines. I look forward to seeing what you come up with. :sweet:

The last two links aren't working for me, not sure if that's at my end or yours.

Much better!

I can see a lot of potential for these. Matter of fact, I just won a very old (4.5v) train on eBay and maybe I'll have to try giving it an update with these templates and some new doors (this is so old it doesn't have doors, but it has these really interesting 1x2x2 clear windows with printed frames). :classic:

My end. Try now. :classic:

Working now, although I don't think my computer can open this type of file. Looks like I need to buy the software first.

Anyway, very nice job on the sizing etc, now let's see some customs! :sweet:

You can trace the jpg in MSPaint. By the way, I've added plate and brick dimensions to the first post.

Better luck now that I changed them to links, Zuloo? :sweet:
