Peppermint_M Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 Thumbnail, click for a larger image and more views This is both my entry for the Handtruck Building Contest and an experiment in round ships. When I bought the Exo-Force set with two circles I was most excited by it. This method was perfect . So I incorperate them into my ship. With a giant di-core fusion engine powering the slip booster, a smaller retro rocket for in atmosphere and short distant hops The Haniver is a pretty fast ship. Built using only parts from the scrap-teriods of Tartarus as an escape for Jen Strakhiver. She now hunts pirates and slavers like those who sent her to Tartarus in the first place, the most feared bounty hunter on the linear plane. Kudos for anyone who gets where the name of the ship came from. =D Quote
Matn Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 Cool, I like the engines at the back of it. Quote
Peppermint_M Posted February 22, 2009 Author Posted February 22, 2009 Why thank you. It was an awkward build but I am pleased with the end result. I just wish I had a better photo setup so I could take nicer pictures. Quote
TenorPenny Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 An awkward build, I can imagine, but it works. Well done! Quote
RangerBob Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 looks nice. I like the shape of it, something different than the usual arrow shaped ships. But I don't like the colors. It's not my taste. Too many colors, which don't fit together. However that's just my opinion. overall: Quote
Peppermint_M Posted February 22, 2009 Author Posted February 22, 2009 (edited) Yes, the large variety of colours was going against the grain for me (I love making super sleek one or two colour ships) but I wanted to fit the two fire engine red handtrucks, plus I was going for the retro sf using pictures from The Terran Trade Authority Handbook as refrence, they were technicolour . The backstory was a way of explaining it away, after all, if you were a slave on a scrap yard asteriod would you bother with colour co-ordination . I would now like to make more round ships in a uniform colour. If only digital designer had the parts I needed , it takes 18 hinged parts to make one circle... Loganwan Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 The color scheme is a bit awkward with the large variety, but with the back story, of course she would have a ship that has many colors. Anyone who is a pirate hunter would probably have to repair their ship a lot, and would have a large variety of parts from different ships, and thus different colors. It has a bit of a mini-sub feel to it with the short frame and bubble top. It looks like it would be a very fast, maneuverable ship that could easily evade some of the larger ships. Good build. I can't wait to see the pirates she goes up against... not to mention Jen herself. Quote
Asuka Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 An interesting ship in a fresh shape. Although the color scheme´s distracting a little from it´s overall genuine lines indeed. Yes, the large variety of colours was going against the grain for me (I love making super sleek one or two colour ships) but I wanted to fit the two fire engine red handtrucks, plus I was going for the retro sf using pictures from The Terran Trade Authority Handbook as refrence, they were technicolour . Ah, sweet memories... there´s a lot of interesting SF artwork to find in those books... Quote
Peppermint_M Posted February 22, 2009 Author Posted February 22, 2009 I have one that was a most fortuitouse find in a used bookshop and I am determined to make at least one or two from Lego. The artwork is amazing and my new mission is to find the rest, or at least Starliners and Space Wrecks. And here is Jen Strakhiver herself: Female Insectoid head, black ponytail, a modified deep jungle torso and dark red legs. The gun is one from the Indiana Jones sets. Quote
Peppermint_M Posted February 23, 2009 Author Posted February 23, 2009 Well, it's on the entry grid now It depresses me that my last entry got several ratings, comments and views on MOCpages within minutes of my posting it because it was star wars related . While other better MOCs have half as many views in over a year or more. Quote
Asuka Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 He he... SW´s eating up the young men´s SF universe... must be perfect marketing or just some good old Jedi mind trick... A very nice MF character BTW, that head looks really great and goes well with that hair piece. Good luck with that contest. Quote
Peppermint_M Posted February 23, 2009 Author Posted February 23, 2009 Thanks I don't mind if i win or lose, I just like to show other's my MOCs. I have a few more round craft to make in a smilar way after my first shopping list for a custom mecha has been fulfilled. =D. Quote
united brick Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 Excuseme but if u used one color sceeme it would look awsome But I like the techneque Quote
Peppermint_M Posted March 1, 2009 Author Posted March 1, 2009 Yup, I am planning on one colour scheme once I have the parts, I have two more round craft to make. One similar to this and a second that is on a vertical instead of horizontal. The backstory does explain its colouring but a major repair job and overhaul is on the books (part list is growing...) so I will post the updated version once the parts are gathered Quote
