I would like to see planes of a similar size but made of mostly standard parts. It should certainly be doable with all the curved slopes and wedges we have today. The planes from the last few years are big and look great, but the huge specialized parts have deterred me from buying them. (particularly the single-piece wings)

Well, I have to admit your are right. The exterior of the planes look so good but these huge specialized parts are kind of a turn off! The wings are so big and the fact that is a one single-piece wing is kind of weird. The look is great but you can't buid nothing else but planes with these huge parts... Passenger Train set 7897 has that same problem... The front end of the train is one huge part... I would prefer if you could build it in seperate parts...

Overall, I still like the big planes.... At least the outside look...!

I see your points with the huge specialized parts. It sure takes playability out of the set as you can only build airplanes with them. But I certainly am a fan of the recent Lego planes for the most part.

I Haven't heard anything, about any new large pre-formed planes but I think the Indy line is the best source for airplanes right now.

Peril in Peru - DC3

Fight on the Flying wing- Flying wing

Temple Escape- Floating bi-plane

And coming soon...

Fighter Plane attack- German Bi-plane and Messershmit (spelling?)

Also, the Creator Ferry has a neat alternate model cargo plane.

Interesting discussion. I have amended the title slightly to prevent readers to misunderstood that there is upcoming New Aircrafts from TLG.

Let's hear from the rest to see what kind of aircraft or design will you like to add in your runway. :sweet:

i'd like to see more planes on the scale of the plane in This set

I have to admit I really liked those 4 studs wide airplane. They fit well into an airport set. I own: (6375 Trans Air Carrier / 6396 International Jetport / 6392 Airport / 6482 Rescue Helicopter / 3 X 6673 Solo Trainer / 7732 Air Mail / 7893 Passenger Plane / 7734 Cargo Plane). The older models (not 7893 and 7734) are nice because they can use the older airport runways but the newer planes are so wide (still so nice) that they really don't fit in any city setting.

Too bad.

Interesting topic. In addition to the new Indy planes coming out, I'd like to see Lego offer some of the Airline Exclusive planes, like this one:

I did manage to pick this one up when released by LSAH:

The problem with Lego's new airplanes is that they are so big, you need a floor to display them on, and they dwarf moderately sized airports.

I'd love to see some small single engined aircraft like Cessnas and Pipers, maybe in a bush or outback setting or a flying school setting perhaps.

I agree that the new aircraft are far too large, especially next to older Lego aircraft. They're closer to scale with lego minifigs, but don't fit with other aircraft or airports.

That 1808 Light Aircraft & Ground Support is nice. I have never noticed this set before. Like I said above, the new LEGO planes are super nice as far as style goes but it is really difficult to use them in the traditional LEGO city sets... It seems like LEGO does that once in a while... The 7726 Coast Guard Truck with Speed Boat is one example of oversized sets. I hope they find a scale and stick to it!

I am still a big fan of the 4 studs wide vehicules!

Well, I think the scale is the good aspect of the new planes. The old planes look good but are way too small to be commercial jets, even by Lego scale standards. They are even smaller than most train cars. If the new planes actually had interesting and customizable designs, without using all the huge parts, I would be sold on them.

These are some of the recent sets from CITY, which I will love to add into my runway. I still prefer small sized planes compared with the 7893 Passenger Plane. I do like the details of the 7893, which kinds of reminded me of the minifig size of a B747 or A380, but realistic it looks more like a B777 design for our 7893.

This aircraft is one of my all time favourite passenger plane.

Yes! Those classic planes! I love them too! Since i'm running out of space in my display cabinet, i decided to hang up some of the aircraft. I tried 7893 and it just couldnt work at all. U will need at least 6 anchor points!! (2 each at each wing, one at the tail and one at the nose). Lesser effort was required to hang up the 1808 (just three anchor points) and it lookes great inside the cabinet now!

I was truely amazed with the size and detail of the 7893 (so were my nephews and nieces, unfortunately) and indeed it is one of the best made TLG planes! However, it became a real white elephant after a while and i had to take it apart quite often (my nephews and nieces help me on that, unfortunately) to wash it.. Simply couldnt find a space to display it... :cry_sad:

Don't forget about the cute little helicopters too. There were so many good little planes and helicopters. It would probably not be too hard to replicate those older planes since they needed to actually be built with bricks. Changing color schemes could get you quite a collection. I have been thinking about adding an airport to my city, and was relying on the smaller Indiana Jones sets. I might have to do some research into the smaller old planes though. Thanks for the topic.

I'd like to see more 4 and 6 wide aircraft. The current range of <insert that tiresome argument> CITY aircraft look good, and allow for lots of interior detail, but they are a bit big to fit into my layout. Right now all my planes are seaplanes...

but even if I expand to a regular airport, smaller aircraft are definitely a priority. I'm especially looking forward to the aircraft in the new indy set "Fighter Plane Attack" as it has two great aircraft with the potential to mod and incorporate into my layout.
