Adam Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 I'll discuss this with ISC, but at the moment my thoughts are no. The modules should be able to connect to each other at the sides, so having structures protruding over the sides would not work. Small things higher up like a tree branch might be okay. The thing is, the protrusion wouldn't be coming directly out of the side. It would be in front of the module a bit, similar to Thrash's stairs, and then to the side, so that it's covering the front of the neighboring module slightly. Quote
I Scream Clone Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 The thing is, the protrusion wouldn't be coming directly out of the side. In that case use your judgment, and you can then show us in the normal CCB thread to decide if we feel the overhang isn't too severe. My first thought is to try your best to confine the module to the size of the module to stop any issues like this. This is after all what all the other entries are doing Quote
Brickthing Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 Also, you could consider what modules are next to the module that you're making in the Castle Map. If your module is next to one that is most likely not going to have bricks right on the edge, then a little bit of overlap might be ok. Although, considering that the modules are supposed to be as modular with each other as possible, it might be best to try and avoid overlap as much as possible. Quote
Sir Dillon Posted February 10, 2009 Author Posted February 10, 2009 I've added to rules to say that small overhangs on the front and back of the modules are okay, but overhangs on the sides is not allowed. So, Thrash, your module is acceptable. Adam, I'm still thinking no for yours, but I can't really say without seeing it. If you like you can take a picture and show it to ISC and me, and we'll make a decision from that. ISC's advice applies to everyone, I think. Do your best to stay within the baseplate, and only overhang if you have to. Quote
Dragonator Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 I must agree with ISC and Sir Dillon on this, it would not work to have overhang to the sides as you don't if it will effect the neighbouring module. A valid question though. Quote
simonwillems Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 This looks like a fun contest! I am currently in the middle of constructing something like a walled city and will maybe post one of the already finished buildings in this contest. Only problem: it is slightly higher then 25 studs high, there is a tiny tower sticking out a bit higher.... Is this height rule very strict? In Medieval times many buidlings were higher then the surrounding castle walls, like in this picture of my hometown Zutphen in the Netherlands The church is much higher than the walls in the foreground and it has been like this since the medieval times. Quote
Sir Dillon Posted February 18, 2009 Author Posted February 18, 2009 Hey simonwillems, I'm glad you're interested in entering. I'll have to confer with I Scream Clone about the height rules, but my thoughts are that we can stretch it a little if it's only a small part of the structure higher than the limit, and not the whole module. ISC or I will get back to you. Quote
I Scream Clone Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 That should be fine simonwillems, can't wait to see what you have on offer. Quote
Sir Dillon Posted March 3, 2009 Author Posted March 3, 2009 Update: BrickArms has now graciously offered to provide the winners of the contest with a variety of new Castle BrickArms accessories in several different colors. Hinckley will also donate some Brickforge items as prizes. Many thanks to both of them! Quote
I Scream Clone Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 This is great! Thanks Sir Dillon, Hinckley and Brickarms for increasing the prize pool, now there is even more reason to build a module Quote
Erdbeereis Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 Great news! This makes the contest even better than it already is. Thanks to the new prize donors! Man, there are too many contests this month, I can't keep up. Quote
Thrash Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 Yay! Hopefully this will bring some more people in to build modules... I know I'll have some new modules coming soon Thanks brickarms and Hinckley! ~Thrash Quote
simonwillems Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 That should be fine simonwillems, can't wait to see what you have on offer. OK, thanks! I have completed my small medieval walled town and will isolate one of the buildings to enter it in this contest, it is going to be a half timbered model of the townhall in the German city of Michelstadt. I will post the entry somewhere next week if I find the time to take the pictures... Nice to see the increase on prices to win! Quote
Etzel Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 Hurray for more prizes! Many thanks to the donors. Anyway, at this moment it seems like I've got a good chance of winning a prize, 1 of the 3 entries are mine Quote
Captain Blackmoor Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 I'm working on my second entry... Then I own 2 of the 4 entries. Seriously: Good luck with building! Quote
I Scream Clone Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 Just a gentle reminder that there is less than 2 weeks for people to enter this competition, so lets see what you can come up with. Cheers Quote
Sir Dillon Posted March 30, 2009 Author Posted March 30, 2009 I'm excited to see some new entries. A couple things: Erdbeereis, three out of your four images are too large. They should be no greater than 800 x 600, which means neither the height or the width can be greater than 800, and one must be no greater than 600. Lt. de Martinet: Your wall is too big. The area from the ground to the walkway along the top should be about 12 bricks high, and while one or two bricks of variation would be okay, yours is closer to 20. Looking back at the rules, I see I wasn't very clear in this aspect, so I may allow your entry anyway. I'm going to talk to I Scream Clone and he or I will give you a final answer. Quote

I resized them, but forgot about the second part that was not 600. I'll fix that up straight away. EDIT: Ok, should be good now. Sorry again! Quote
Guss Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 I must hurry up to build something... there is not many time left! Quote
Sir Dillon Posted March 30, 2009 Author Posted March 30, 2009 Lt. de Martinet: I Scream Clone and I have decided that you will need to edit your entry in order for it to be eligible. While slight structure changes are allowed, the wall should be exactly or very close in height to the one pictured. I'm sorry the rules were not clearer, and hopefully you still have time to alter your entry. EDIT: Ok, should be good now. Sorry again! It's okay. Thanks for fixing them. Quote
Lt. de Martinet Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 (edited) Okay, I'll try to fix it. Thanks for telling me! I had thought that the "No more than 25 bricks high" referred to the entire module. EDIT: I've changed it; is that better? Edited March 31, 2009 by Lt. de Martinet Quote
Sir Dillon Posted April 2, 2009 Author Posted April 2, 2009 EDIT: I've changed it; is that better? Yes. I'm glad you were able to change it. I hate to be so picky, but now you image is too large. Please resize it 800 x 600 or smaller. Only one day left to enter! Quote
Sandy Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 I have an entry coming up, just in the nick of time. So don't go closing the contest early, now. Quote
Thrash Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 I have an entry coming up, just in the nick of time. So don't go closing the contest early, now. Great entry Sandy! I thought you had forgotten about the EBCCB...I'm glad you hadn't! I really like the way you put a chalk board in there. The Satyr minifig is also quite nice. ~Thrash Quote
Sir Dillon Posted April 3, 2009 Author Posted April 3, 2009 To clarify, I am going to end the contest at midnight US Eastern Time. This means that those of you in Europe will have a few hours extra time, and for those in the Western US will need to get your entries in a few hours early. Quote
