Monki Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 (edited) I did this a while back when I discovered LDD. Its a luxury charter coach. It was my first attempt at a creation so go easy... I found it a little hard to accomplish what I wanted due to the limitations with pieces on LDD. There are a few things that could be done better but I just didnt have the patience at the time. Its an 8 wide Coach, so its a little big, probably too big for most peoples town layouts, but I wanted to make it somewhat realistic inside, ie: a row of seats on either side of a center aisle with a bathroom at the back. Its a little pricey as from memory there may be as many as 500 pieces. Here are some pics: Overview Side View Other side Front passenger access door, Luggage compartment, and engine bay all open Engine Bay Top open Top open and View of Driver Toilet at rear of bus Front passenger access door and view of stair case Any comments are welcome, I'll put my thick skin on Edited November 24, 2008 by Monki Quote

Sammael Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 (edited) Fantastic bus! With a few (very minor) changes to reduce the brick count somewhat, I could see this as a commercial TLC set - with 3 minifigs and a small bench accessory, same price range or slightly more expensive than 7733 Truck & Forklift, for example. Still Raindrop Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 Wow. I've recently made three or four attempts to create a coach like this, and have ended up scrapping every one of them because they just didn't look right. This one, however, is absolutely brilliant! It has all of the features of a large coach down pat. I'm usually not a huge fan of 8-wide vehicles (I tried building my coach in 6-wide), but this is an exception, as it's so well done, and the size really seems to fit. Also, I love the windshield wipers! Quote
djo Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 nice bus design. i like the way you put the front windshields as bus front end. nice doors too and the way opening the bus roof is unique. i saw toilet too, very creative indeed. it would be cool if you can make it from real bricks too. good job. rriggs Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 That is a great model. I especially like (and will therefore steal ) the way you have done the roof and I really like the engine. I agree with you about the 8-wide for realism - I did the same with my LDD coach: LDD Coach Only criticisms are very minor - The wheels would look more realistic if you turned the wheels around on the front and rear axles and the toilet needs a door!! Cheers Rog Quote

I agree, you could easily reduce the brick count. Because it was created in LDD there were pieces that were used that didnt need to be used or situations where I could have used 1 piece instead of 2. And I started on a bus stop but didnt end up finishing it. Wow. Thanks djo, Id love to actually build it but dont have the pieces at the moment, maybe one day. That is a great model. Cheers Rog Wow Rog, I love the way your doors open for passenger access and the luggage compartment! If I was to build mine I would actually steal your door mechanisms so we can call it even. I was actually trying to add a door to the toilet but gave up in the end. I think it would be easy to do if I had access to all pieces rather than what was available on LDD. I get what you mean with the wheels, I guess thats an easy fix By the way if anyone wants building instructions or the model, they're welcome to them. Quote
Lasse D Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 It does look nice, but isn't 8 wide just a bit on the large side? I'm sure it looks more realistic than a slimmer version would, but I'm having problems fitting these 8 wide vehicles into tabletoptown. I once made a coach too with 14 passengers, but being 6 wide, it was a bit cramped: Linky It also had a toilet, motor and luggage compartment like yours. It does, however, offer a different type of doors, and I think your front door will be a challenge to open once built in bricks. Quote

Cool bus Lasse D, I like your doors and you've really crammed alot in on a 6 wide bus. I agree with it being a little on the large side, my objective when building it wasn't to necessarily fit in with town layouts, it was more of a standalone. But it may still fit in with some town plans if you're using 6 wide vehicles already. And if I was to build it, one of the first adjustments I would make is with the front passenger access door, I too think its impractical, I found it a little hard and time consuming to experiment with moving parts on LDD. Klaus-Dieter Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 That's a totally amazing MOC, Monki! I really it. It looks very realisitic and like an official Lego set! If only TLG releases something like that! Very, very well done! Klaus-Dieter Quote

I dont think Lego has ever produced a bus for our beloved minifigs, I guess they're only option is to take the train or drive... Edited November 26, 2008 by Monki Quote
legotrainfan Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 A really nice bus with lots of nice details to make it look as realistic as possible! Great work, especially the windscreen. Quote
