the enigma that is badger Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 (edited) While Will is hard at work getting many of the great prototypes you've seen showcased the past few months ready for mass production, he's still working on exciting new designs as well! Two new items he's just unveiled: the BrickArms Alien Energy Pistol and BrickArms Alien Energy Sword! Alien Energy Pistol: *Seen here in the hand of the BrickArms custom Chief minifig who also is wielding the BrickArms Needle Gun* Alien Plasma Blade: *Ditto!* Both these items are planned for mass production although the design and colors of the final accessories will likely differ from what it presented here. The Alien Energy Pistol will be a solid color(s) for mass production (although special, multi-colored versions might show up at conventions!) and the Energy Sword will most likely be available in at least one trans-color! The BrickArms Needle Gun is also planned for mass production, again as a solid-colored item. Like all prototypes, when these great new accessories are available for direct purchase on the BrickArms website has yet to be determined. It's always very hard to get the exclusives when you live in NZ. I managed to get myself a needler, but that took some effort. So now they are going into mass production are they? I remember how many folks wanted the needler and energy sword when he was doing them as one-offs. To see them coming as stock items now is really great. Quote

No one has ever really made more than one Energy sword (to my knowledge) and now Will plans on mass producing them? In trans colors! My mind has been officially blown. The Energy pistol looks good, but I would much rather have the multi colored one over a single color. The only single colored one I could see would be Covenant purple, and just barely. It just doesn't seem like a single color thing, nor does the needler. Can't wait for these, the MGL, and the SPAS-12. DSR Quote

Will does have some neat ideas on improving that accessory, and he does still plan to make it somehow available for direct purchase. As the segmented-detailing of this design made it much more reminiscent of the classic fragmentation grenade design, Will decided to rename the item to better reflect its overall look. Whatever name it ends up with in the end, it'll be an exciting new addition to the BrickArms line-up for any fan of things that go "boom!" I still haven't had an opportunity yet (due to lack of funds, not lack of wanting ^.~) to order some Brickarms, but if I have money when these come out I'll be sure to pick them up on day 1! Just curious on a few things, by the way, if you can answer them - I understand some of this may have to wait until they are released, but... 1. You mentioned that the new frag grenade will be coming out in trans light blue; will this be in a pack like most of the other color variants, or will you be able to order them separately? *crosses fingers for the latter* 1a. If the latter is true, will there eventually be new colors for some of the other weapons? 1b. What colors would the Plasma Energy Sword come in? Just the (from the appearance of the pictures) trans-light-green, or other colors too? What about solid colors? 2. That said, both solid and trans-colors are very likely. Will's molder can perfectly match any TLG color, including trans-shades, so Will's got a very large palette to pick from! I recall the last time I saw the needler, it was stated that it had too many difficult steps in the process to ever be mass-marketed - I'm assuming that A. this was due to the multiple colors and B. this has been ironed out. Are these assumptions correct? No, overmolding is still a labor-intensive process that is very prone to failure. However, making these items in solid colors (both opaque and trans) is no more difficult compared to other BrickArms items. has Will ever considered making the multi-colored versions as (obviously much more expensive) special orders? No, given that overmolding is difficult to produce on any large scale. He might be able to do some for convention specials, but beyond that, the multi-color overmolded items aren't likely ever to be made widely available. What happened to the Grenade Pack? With BrickArms continuing to expand at a fantastic rate, Will needed to trim down a few of the pack offerings. Please keep in mind that each pack sold by BrickArms is hand-sorted by Will and his family, and between managing the day-to-day operations of the BrickArms business as well as developing new accessories, Will is a very busy person.
