Hoboman Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 Hello lego40k, I like your armies, but I have to say I like your Dragon Knight Army better than your Lion Army. Your Dragon Knights have more Calavery and more bow support. But both are nice. Quote
ziljin Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 Heh, right. I could swear I read discounted. Wishful reading maybe? Yea That would certainly be nice. Hello lego40k, I like your armies, but I have to say I like your Dragon Knight Army better than your Lion Army. Your Dragon Knights have more Calavery and more bow support. But both are nice. Thanks a lot. Yea I decided to make use of all of my horses for the dragon knights. I was hoping to have the entire army be mounted but I ran out of horses. Plus the quivers don't exactly fit with the saddles, I could force it but didn't want to risk any damage. Later on when my saddleless horses come in, I can put my entire draogn knight army on horses. TheLegoDr Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 I love seeing these huge armies. I've only recently started buying legos again (after a 16 year hiatus (I'm 27 fyi)) and thanks to this Historic Theme forum I started buying the Kingdoms sets. Originally I loved the older Crusaders/Black Falcons/Black Knights and have many of those in storage, but have taken an interest in the newer Lions/Dragons also. I am at a crossroads. Do I continue to build up my Dragon and/or Lion army to compete with you fine people, or should I build the older armies from which I have a good base already via bricklink? I have found a large amount of the prison carriage rescue on clearance at Target so I have purchased a few of those already. When I am ready, I will post my army(ies) as well. Quote

I have found a large amount of the prison carriage rescue on clearance at Target so I have purchased a few of those already. When I am ready, I will post my army(ies) as well. Here is my castle army before haitus. 1 crusader missing weapon, 2 blackfalcons, missing one helmet and shield and sword. 2 forestmen, missing sword and plumes, and 1 peasant. I would love to collect thus in bulk, but I fear that Madoka has already bought most of them, and in bricklink most sellers have like 2 of them. I don't feel like buying from 50 sellers just to get a small army. Most of my knights are lion and dragon. I got into castle late 2009 so most of the crown knights/skeletons/trolls/dwarves I was unable to get. =(. If I do buy some at bricklink I might get some more crown knights and trolls. Skeletons I got plenty from NinjaGo. And dwarves are too expensive considering their legs don't move and beard covers most of printing. Quote
TheLegoDr Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 I have numerous factions within my lego castle world. 1) Crownies - The kingdom lays to the west, and is currently my largest factions (est. 34 soldiers). They are the main force against the Dark Lord and his minions. 2) Royal Knights - The kingdom lays to the south east of the Crownies (est. 24 soldiers). It consists of the Royal and Crusader lego groups (soon to include the new Kingdom knights, which will make this kingdom the largest in my set). They have warred with the Crownies in the past, however due to the threat of the Dark Lord, an alliance has been formed. 3) Rangers (Forestmen) - No loyalty to any faction, except the to the highest bidder. They fought with the Royal Knights as scouts during the war with the Crownies, however, now they are scouts for the Crownies. (6 soldiers). 4) Bat Knights - The kingdom lays to the North East, in the Mountains (14 soldiers, mostly Calvary). This faction includes the Bull Knights. They fight for the Dark Lord. 5) Imperials - This faction is to the south of the Crownies. (14 soldiers). They are allied with the Crownies due to the trade amongst the two factions. 6) Northmen (vikings) - This faction lays to the North. They are brutal, strong fighters. The king only cares for plundering and pillaging. Not much is known of them, except their limited interactions with the Crownies. They'd attack settlements then leave before the Crownie King could counter-attack. It is thought that they may be in alliance with the Dark Lord. 7) Dwarves - This faction is to the west of the Crownies, in the mountains. (10 soldiers). They are allied with the Crownies due to the trade amongst the two groups. 8) Dark Lord - The Dark lord and his minions, consisting of Orcs, Trolls, Undead, and Evil Men lays to the east. (est. 40 soldiers). The Dark Lord is attempting to collect all mythical relics to gain ultimate power. The Dark Lord is the supreme evil in my lego castle world. 9) Arabs/Persians - This kingdom lays to the far east. (est. 30 soldiers). It is made up of PoP and Indiana Jones sets. They trade extensively with the imperials. The Crownies have sent emissaries to the far east to rally support. However, the Dark Lord has already sent men, as it is rumored the Caliph has in possession a powerful weapon (i.e., dagger). 11) Thieves (WolfPack) - This guild exists within the Crownie kingdom. (6 soldiers). They stay within the shady underbelly of the kingdom realm, mostly, however some are adventurous, and all are expert blades-men. 12) Hobbits - These are peaceful people, located in the valley east of the Crownies. (5 hobbits). Recently, this settlement has gained the attention of the Dark Lord as it is rumored that one hobbit may have stumbled across an ancient treasure. 13) Wizards - These are the wise men of the castle world. (4 wizards; white, grey, blue, black). Some ally with factions, others maintain their neutrality, instead passing on wisdom and advice to the different factions. 14) Black Falcons - This small factions (8 soldiers) is allied with the Royal Knights. The Black Falcon Lord was given the land after his valor in battle in the services of the Royal King. The Black Falcon Lord's Manor is located North of the Royal Knights. 15) Black Knights/Dragon Masters - This faction is located to the Northwest of the Crownies. There is an uneasy alliance between the Black Knights and the Crownies. (est. 24 soldiers). I like how you have a backstory for each group and the alliances for each. I just started buying the new Kingdoms, but have lots of older Crusaders/Falcons/Dragons from early 90s, so I was considering making alliances as well. Nice job! Quote
ziljin Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 I was going to have my Crown Knights to be the defacto ruler of my lego land. But I only have like 20 crown knights and now have like 80 dragon knights and 80 lion knights. Guess they will have to be the main kingdoms. With Crown Knights as a lowly vassal kingdom. I have lots of Persians though probably around 50. And a large amount of skeletons. Guess they are the bad guys. And working on a generic army. Perhaps militia forces or mercenaries. Quote

You could have the Persians support the Crown Knights. That would make their combined number closer to the Lions/Dragons. Also keep in mind that your "generic" army could be conscripts for the Crown King as well. Do that and he has quite the force. Quote

Also keep in mind that your "generic" army could be conscripts for the Crown King as well. Do that and he has quite the force. That feels like cheating. My original intention was to make something similar to Warcraft/Warhammer where humans have multiple factions coexisting in the same lands. I can even do it with skeletons. Fantasy/NinjaGo skeletons = Sentient undead. And the classic skeletons with eyeless faces = slave undead of necromancer or demons/monsters. I was going to buy some more Atlantis sets for Atlanteans, or Power Miners for Golems, or SpacePoliceIII/Alien Conquest for demons. But nah, way too expensive compared to castle minifigures. Well Alien Conquest aliens should be similar price, but their printing wouldn't fit in with castle theme. I am going to keep Crown Knights a vassal kingdom for now unless I decide to get more via bricklink. For now, I am massing Lion knights and dragon knights while they are still cheap. And the occasional skeletons and generic humans from pick a brick. Quote

I've considered meshing forces together, but at times I just don't know. But definitely smart to get as many new Kingdoms soldiers now while they are active. Quote

I figure it is less cheeting and more doing with what you have. But I do understand. It is more fun sometimes to have many smaller armies than one large one. So I will continue to enjoy your efforts as you share them. Quote

If anything, I will just get hundreds of kingdoms and future knight factions. And my crown knights, trolls, dwarves will be mercenaries or even elite soldiers. Since Crown Knights use same colored helmets as Lion Knights maybe they can be a subgroup within the Lion Kingdom. I mean man, what kind of kingdom has 20 soldiers when rival kingdoms have hundreds lol. I doubt they could defend themselves. Quote
TheLegoDr Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 Shroffy, no pictures mate? Im looking to add 2-4 factions to my already large collection. Are any of you dealing with same/similar situation where you just want to keep adding factions? The more I see some of these old sets and the new ones I want to add lots of factions. I don't know if I'd go much further than what I already have and the two new factions though. Quote

ACPin Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 love your ashigaru! I need to make some of my own. My japanese army is like 20 ninjas and 4 samurai. You can easily increase the size of your own and cheaply too by using stickers for the torsos from CC like I did. That is a wonderful army and a great way to show it off. Love the whole buildout. What else are we building armies for if we couldn't show them in all their glory? Already planning for another one! i like the oriental feel of the landscape. very different to my usual european style soldiers and castles that i grew up with. That's why I've been planning on this for a quite sometime as there are very few that I've seen done in this scale. You can view more details of the whole MOC by clicking the link mentioned. AC Quote
ziljin Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 I don't want to use stickers. But I think I see some Prince of Persia torsos if I am not mistaken. I previously thought they could make good Japanese soldiers. Haven't tried it yet though. Quote

At least found a good use for the HP and Jedi Luke torsos. Yes, the long bow archers and cavalry all have the PoP torsos. The ranks at the back are Jedi Luke and Jarjar Binks torsos. AC Quote

Hoboman Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 Wow, those turned out very well. I like the generic barding. Nice alternative to some expensive elements. Quote
buddy Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Nice army there lego40k, I too like the brick-built barding, it is a good alternative to using normal barding. ~buddy~ Quote
ziljin Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 Thanks a lot guys, and I noticed you have a different username hoboman? Well thanks to you to pointing out the instructions for the horse bardings. I updated 2 of my fantasy era armies Hope to double them in size in the upcoming months! Crown Knights Trolls Quote
kibosh Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 Can you share the link to the brick built barding? Quote
ziljin Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 (edited) Can you share the link to the brick built barding? He linked me to this topic the instructions is in the middle of this brickwars thread and I also found this thread at classic castle. EDIT: I just realized the second link, the poster uses a burglar cap (is that what it is called?) as a round shield! excellent! Edited July 29, 2011 by lego40k Quote
