Governor Mister Phes Posted September 9, 2005 Governor Posted September 9, 2005 Which set is this in? Quote
Thrash Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 I have a bunch of them from early Harry Potter sets. ~Thrash Quote
SuvieD Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 check here Also HP 4752 has 8 of them in tan. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted September 9, 2005 Author Governor Posted September 9, 2005 Are they in any castle sets? Quote
The Middleman Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 Are they in any castle sets? Most Harry Potter is generally considered castle. Wisely, in my opinion, they omitted the staircase from the new line - I never liked it. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted September 9, 2005 Author Governor Posted September 9, 2005 And what didn't you like about them Bloody Jay? Quote
The Middleman Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 And what didn't you like about them Bloody Jay? The individual stairs spin apart. The whole staircase spins. If it allowed locking into place easily, I'd love it, but right now it sucks. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted September 9, 2005 Author Governor Posted September 9, 2005 So each stair can independantly rotate 360 degrees around the support? Quote
SuvieD Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 So each stair can independantly rotate 360 degrees around the support? No, they can rotate 0-20 maybe? They have two small tabs that prevent them from complete rotation. Unfortunately, the don't stay in place. They tend to rotate backwards and make uneven or wobbly stairs. This can be avoided with some clever stops but the stair is still very limited. The stair only comes in HP sets. I like them in some ways and dislike them for their weak structure. If you want a plain round stair you can use these fairly well. To keep them in place I usually place a jumper tile underneath the bottom step to keep the bottom stair from moving and the a brick with a 1x2 plate w/arm up on the bottom to hold the top step in place. This keeps the stair in a somewhat locked position. Do not twist or apply much pressure to the stair once locked in place or the middle parts can come loose and cause you much trouble depending on the model or moc. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted September 10, 2005 Author Governor Posted September 10, 2005 Is there anything to stop them from rotating in the Harry Potter sets? Quote
Cutty Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 Is there anything to stop them from rotating in the Harry Potter sets? That's the problem: No there isn't! I came across these in both that Fluffy-Set and Dumbledore's Office, and in both cases they were free to spin. Not to menton that, once means are found to fixate them into place, these staircases could make for interesting modeling opportunities, but for playing purposes they are lacking hardcore due to their flimsy structure. See you on the boards, Cutty Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted September 10, 2005 Author Governor Posted September 10, 2005 Why would LEGO create such an interesting piece with such obtuse functioning? A case of good idea, but poor execution due to cost cutting? Quote
The Middleman Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 Why would LEGO create such an interesting piece with such obtuse functioning? A case of good idea, but poor execution due to cost cutting? It's supposed to mimic the 'moving staircases' in Harry Potter. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted September 10, 2005 Author Governor Posted September 10, 2005 I don't recall the moving stair cases in Harry Potter being spiral. The ones I remember were orthogonal and the different sections would move about to connect to one another. But I haven't seen a Harry Potter movie since the last one was released in cinemas, so they're not fresh in my mind. Quote
The Middleman Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 There is one moving spiral staircase in Dumbledore's office in Chamber of Secrets, but the rest are regular staircases. This is just LEGO's way of hooking kids to the line, another action feature. They've pretty much dropped it, though. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted September 10, 2005 Author Governor Posted September 10, 2005 In other words yet another annoying <insert that tiresome argument> piece which didn't do as well as previously thought. At least with a bit of modifying this one could work quite well in castle like structures. Quote
blueandwhite Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 This is actually not a bad part. Its quite easy to set the stairs so they don't rotate. More importantly, these stairs are great for using in round towers! Its not that hard to build something similar, but these are just so user friendly! I've never had any difficulty with them. With a few clever building techniques, these stairs should never rotate, and they look amazing! Still, building a round tower with a spiral staircase requires your fair share of bricks. It looks good, but be prepared to use a good chunk of LEGO to make it work. Later. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted September 23, 2005 Author Governor Posted September 23, 2005 Do ye have any nice pictures of these round towers ye speak of? It would be interesting to seem them! Quote
Norro Posted September 25, 2005 Posted September 25, 2005 They are also in one non hp set I am thinking of... Can you name it? I prefer my own stairs personnaly (tons in my new moc), the slipping is just too much. God Bless, Nathan Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted September 26, 2005 Author Governor Posted September 26, 2005 Do you have any pictures of your stair cases Norro, so that we can compare them to LEGO's? Quote
Norro Posted September 26, 2005 Posted September 26, 2005 Do you have any pictures of your stair cases Norro, so that we can compare them to LEGO's? When I finish my new MOC they'll all be in various positions, it would ruin it to pull them out of context. God Bless, Nathan The other set is the Information Tower from the lego island extreme stunts line btw Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted September 27, 2005 Author Governor Posted September 27, 2005 When I finish my new MOC they'll all be in various positions The Khama Sutra of the Spiral Staircase... Quote
Norro Posted September 27, 2005 Posted September 27, 2005 When I finish my new MOC they'll all be in various positions The Khama Sutra of the Spiral Staircase... No, more like the 'strategically located to facilitate movement between two stories' of spiral staircases :) God Bless, Nathan Quote
blueandwhite Posted October 3, 2005 Posted October 3, 2005 Do ye have any nice pictures of these round towers ye speak of? It would be interesting to seem them! Sorry. I've been busy. Here's a decent shot. STAIRCASE And here's an exterior shot. BRICKMOOR The spiral staircase piece is actually quite useful if your willing to adapt it to your MOCs. The rotation is easily preventable, and as a piece it looks great. Sorry about the poor lighting. Later. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted October 5, 2005 Author Governor Posted October 5, 2005 That is a rather awesome castle creation... I'll just link the image in the forum so its really wide and fills up with width of lower resolution monitors. That's soooo annoying... Quote
