Governor Mister Phes Posted September 8, 2005 Governor Posted September 8, 2005 See this image from an auction... I won it of course. But when it arrived I discovered... and My immediate reaction was WTF!!! Since I've never opened a 4+ Pirate set before I had no idea what the palm trees were like. I just assumed they were traditional, which I thought was a redeeming feature of these horrible <insert that tiresome argument> sets. Well I can certainly say my opinion of these sets is even lower than prior to this experience. These pieces are horrible! So little that can be done with them. The leaves can only be used as the top of a palm tree, or maybe some outrageous kind of propellor - but what's the likelihood of someone doing that often? And the trunk cannot be position or adjusted in length whatsoever. So I can only write: Quote
Thrash Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 I have one of these trees from one of the Dinosaur Johnny Thunder sets that was out a few years ago. I think that is when they first appears. Quote
Dreamweb Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 :oo I have no idea why they made these when they already had older and BETTER versions of a palm tree, ready to put in a new set... Waste of time for Lego designers. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted September 8, 2005 Author Governor Posted September 8, 2005 I didn't realise these horrible palm trees appeared in other sets. Here's what peeron has to say 1 in 5986 Amazon Ancient Ruins (1999) 1 in 5976 River Expedition (1999) 1 in 6435 Coast Guard HQ (1999) 2 in 9650 Scenery Resource Set (2002) 1 in 5858 The Golden Palace (2003) Not it any Adventurers Dino sets though... Thrash Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 Ah yes, now I remember. It was the River Expidition set that I got it from. ~Thrash Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted September 9, 2005 Author Governor Posted September 9, 2005 And that also has an interesting base plate which I must acquire a copy of for a MOC I've got in mind... Quote
xwingyoda Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 Phes, I just hope you did not pay too much for those horrendous trees :D ;) Quote
Thrash Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 What is so interesting about the Base plate in River Expidition? It's just like 3/4 of a normal green baseplate, and it might be a slightly different shade of green. ~Thrash Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted September 9, 2005 Author Governor Posted September 9, 2005 Phes, I just hope you did not pay too much for those horrendous trees :D ;) Nah. I only got them because they were cheap. Now wonder they didn't fetch a very high price! LEGO palms fetch a good price in this part of the world. There's another auction with REAL SYSTEM palm tree components (which I'll post later) that is doing quite nicely. Quote

Thrash Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 Lol, ok good. That makes a lot more sense. ~Thrash Quote
Norro Posted September 17, 2005 Posted September 17, 2005 But when it arrived I discovered... and scary isn't it?! Especially in new brown :( . I got the baseplate you refer to and a bucket of pieces from my cousin for my birthday :-D... yet to use it though.. God Bless, Nathan who liked the 'of course'... Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted September 17, 2005 Author Governor Posted September 17, 2005 I'm not so phased about the newer shades of brown and grey. Although I can foresee the annoyance they could pose if you had a mixture of both shades. But using one or the other doesn't seem so bad. Its all these other shades that frustrate me! Too many! But seriously! A palm tree that can't be adjusted? The palm leaves can be used for almost nothing else? AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!!! Quote
