All very good points!

However, I'm more baffled about the second hand market. The "pre-loved" pieces. In my part of the world I cannot imagine anyone going to the lengths described to obtain that much second hand LEGO. I'd have to see it to believe it!

I think a lot comes via lego/large chains. I bought quite a few of theses from Lego in 2002

All MISB. They must have been sitting in a corner for years... A lot of large stores probably have odds and ends stacking up. The other option is the Vault (one of the first online lego sellers, run by Mr. Chiles) which appeared to get all its stock from over fussy collectors and he also set aside a lot to gain value...
