Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted September 23, 2008 Eurobricks Emperor Posted September 23, 2008 We've all seen pictures of the new Pirate soldiers. They look great and I love TLC for releasing them! BUT... I've already collected tons of the old (classic) Imperial Guards (red coats) and Imperial Soldiers (blue coats). I'm using the old redcoats for my British armies and the old blue coats for my English armies. What should I do with these new soldiers? Mix them with my redcoats? Put them in some kind of special regiment? I'm looking for a historically correct "solutions". Advise is needed! The new soldier: The old Imperial Guards: The old Imperial Soldiers: Quote
The Daphne Blue Strat Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 British Royal Marines, of course! Quote
Lego12 Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 Bonaparte seeking help? I thought that this day would never come! Mixing them would be a bad idea, because the torso are different. If you mix them they could be a higher rank than the rest of the soldiers. Why not make another army? Maybe this time from another country. Hope this helps. Lego12 Quote
El Bucanero Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 BUT...I've already collected tons of the old (classic) Imperial Guards (red coats).... Well, you could ofcourse give those to me!! As a late birthday present perhaps? Quote
Eilif Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 It depends on how many you are planning to purchase. 1-I am not planning on getting more than 5-10, so I will probably be using them as officers for the rest of the red coats that I have. 2-Alternatively you could switch around tricorns for shakos and use one kind of redcoat as sailors, and one as soldiers. 3-You could use one on land and one on ships. 4-Creating a special guard or separate regiment is also an option 5-Creating a new separate faction is also an option. 6-Giving one of the redcoat types another color of pants (red or blue probably) could help with suggestions 4 or 5. Zorro Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 (edited) i made a list for my own, but im willing to share it : You could use them for so many different units: I would, personnaly, NEVER mix them with my guards.... English: SCOTTISh units, Danish and Swiss: Nearly every unit (as French auxill./hired men) (book 2 p.106) French: with white epauletts: -sanitation units(first aid) units (p.78) - imperial guards: "grenadiers Hollandais" (with white sleeves and white pants) There are also Dutch musicians with this uniform!(book 2 p.12) -imperial guards: chevau-legers lanciers (book 2 p.44) grand uniform! Germans under napoleon: - WeStphalian infantry and cavalry (book 2 p.84) - Wurtzbourg infantry /artillery(pbook 2 p.88) - most Saxon unitsn (especcilay cavalry) (book 2: p.92) Italians under napoleon: some smaller infantry units/hussars/.... English: -volunteers (p.114) - Kings german legion (p.118): infantry -light infantry, scottish troops with grey pants or kilts??(green?)(p.102-104), Scotsh greys Portugese: -grenadiers and jaegers (p.146) the pages are reffering to the pages of lilianes and Fred funckens "historical unifroms of the napoleonic era": 300+ pages FILLED with uniforms...(dozens of uniforms and details per page!) http://www.fritzwork.de/chapters/CorpsComm...ks/cc_books.htm if you dont have these books Bonaparte, you are welcom to come on over and lend them! Captain Zuloo Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 If I were you, I would use them as maybe a fencing unit? Or if the rest of your army has swords, then maybe a shar shooing unit? I don't know what I'll do with mine either. I'll watch this space. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted September 23, 2008 Governor Posted September 23, 2008 I think you should give them all to me! I'll give them a good home here in Bristol and they can clean my bathroom on a regular basis... Quote
Zorro Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 (edited) I think you should give them all to me! I'll give them a good home here in Bristol and they can clean my bathroom on a regular basis... ACTUALLY, He has already promised them to ME, and he has stated some very good (and fully true) reasons why he does that! (see his quote down here) QUOTE (Bonaparty @ Sep 27 2008, 13:65PM) I will be giving my entire army to you zorro, since you are the only one smart and good-looking enough to use them wisely. The others on this forum are all big kids who havent grown up yet, and frankly... I hate them! I have vested my hope into you, zorro, to become the next pirate-administrator, since I am heading to live on an island in the Atlantic. Edited September 23, 2008 by zorro3999 Quote
QuartermasterRobert Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 I don't see what too wrong with mixing them with classic!Soldiers. Only real difference I can see is the new soldiers use a red torso. Classics used white with a red/blue print. Quote
Fordo Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 It's a tough question because unlike you I never really built up my British forces so these will definately be Red coats for me. You could possibly put bubsy's on them to make them a Highlander Regiment and use the Shako's for other troops. An alternative would be to use them as Royal Marines onboard the nice ship you have. Quote
Norrington Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 I think (since I only have about 20 some of the old color) these are going to be my army. Of course, you could get Sean Bean to take them over the hills and far away. Quote
Wilhelm screamer Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 (edited) While this is completely illogical, you could replace the old ones (and reap a fortune on bricklink!) and use only new ones for your army from now on. ehh... Edited September 24, 2008 by Wilhelm screamer Quote
Norrington Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 AS has been suggested, just army build with them. Mabe make them a specialized regiment in your army, but nothing to major. If they make a blue fig, I hope it's blue with red facings, as that would be perfect for specilized units in my redcoat army (when it's built, anyway.) Quote
Captain Zuloo Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 Yes. I really hope that TLC does put out a Blue coat soldier. I just can't believe that just after they discontinue my other favourite theme - trains, the release pirates. I'm torn between anger and happiness tward TLC. Quote
Dreamweb Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 (edited) I'd definitely go for a completely new faction. In fact that's exactly what I'm (hopefully) gonna do. More factions equals more action on your Lego sea. Still can't make up my mind about what nation they should represent though, as I already have Britons, Spaniards, Frenchmen and Dutchmen. The Portugese perhaps? Edited September 24, 2008 by Dreamweb Quote
Gen. Knowledge Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 Whatever you end up doing, don't sell off your old redcoats. They may not match exactly with the new ones, but I'm sure you can find them a new home in your new army. They have been so loyal to you all these years when there was no pirate theme, don't turn your back on them because of some new shiny red torsos. Tony Quote
woody64 Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 To my point of view it should be no big problem to have both types. Since it was also common that there were different dresses in one army. Sometimes also big parts got new dress codes and some parts had still the old ones ... Maybe if you don't like this idea you can use the old ones for cavalry and the new ones to make aven bigger infantry units. andreas Quote
tedbeard Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 Find someone willing to trade "classic" for new - like me! Quote
Sir Norman Ray Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 Well, personally, I do plan to add them to the current South Essex. Now, I know what you all think, I shouldn't mix. But, bear in mind I built my army on a more real life scale then others, each 100 men is a Company. I plan to use them as Grenadiers and Light Company. They look more elite then the other 200 odd men I got, so it makes sense in my eyes, as those two companies were the elites of the Battalions. Just my thoughts. Just don't sell them old ones off! Quote
Captain Zuloo Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 (edited) Just don't sell them old ones off! No. Don't do that - that woud be bad. Very bad. And we may be forced to make you walk the plank. That goes for everyone. Don't abandon your good loyal armies that have kept you company thorugh these dark non-pirate times for the new ones. Sir Norman Ray Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 Exactly. Learn from history. Wellington lost most of his veteran units after he beat the French the first time, so Waterloo was harder to fight for him. Quote
Captain Zuloo Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 Exactly. Learn from history. Wellington lost most of his veteran units after he beat the French the first time, so Waterloo was harder to fight for him. Yes.That's right. Do what you know is best. Quote
samthelegoman1 Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 If you have tons of redcoats and blue jackets, you should recreate the American Revolution! Quote
Dreamweb Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 Alternatively, you could use them as dress uniforms, in contrast to the standard "battle" uniforms. Quote
