Matn Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 This afternoon I have experimented with the digital camera en with Pirates! I can now take pictures a lot better than at first, so it was time for something new. I have made use of the big piles of tan I have ordered for my Hogwarts project. As first, this groupphoto: And as second, this simple MOC. Two Pirates who are stranded on an island are being watched by a couple of Islanders, while they are eating. http://www.flickr.com/photos/30479264@N06/ Quote
Guss Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 nice scene ^^ I watched your flickr Gallery and I love the tree with the skeleton ^^ Quote
Monkfish44 Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 I like them all! The figs are cool, I wonder if I should post some of my pirate figs. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted September 21, 2008 Governor Posted September 21, 2008 The tiles work well, but the straight shoreline looks the beach look like it's made from bricks rather than sand. It looks like it could benefit from some building techniques that simulate waves and water dynamics. Nonetheless, it's a nice little scene you have there! Quote

I think you need to add a bit of diversity to the shape of the shoreline. Also, if I were building that MOC, I would have used SNOT for the water and studs up for the sand. Because at the moment, you have higher water than beach. But all of your MOC's are great. I look foward to seeing more from you. Quote
Matn Posted September 22, 2008 Author Posted September 22, 2008 Indeed, the sea could be a lot better done, but it was just made for the pure fun, to try some things out. Thanks for the nice comments! My next Pirates MOC's will be those to enter with in the contest. ^^ Quote

Zorro Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 I very much look foward to seeing the final result! Good luck! Still very well done, and Im speaking about your gallery too! As you know or may not know, I am a heavy Islanderfan. Quote
Matn Posted October 3, 2008 Author Posted October 3, 2008 Here are some Work In Progress pcitures for my large entry for the contest. Because of this fantastic contest I'm really getting into Pirates. I never liked it that much when I was younger, but now! That means the Hogwarts project is put on a hold untill next year, or so (January of February); and I'll be building Pirates for the next BeLUG meeting. http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/MaTn/MOC...VWIP/afb011.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/MaTn/MOC...VWIP/afb014.jpg Excuse me for the low quality, it's taken with my cellphone. Guss Posted October 3, 2008 Posted October 3, 2008 ohoh it's going to be a huge moc matn, it's a nice start ! good luck for the contest ! ^^ Quote
Matn Posted October 3, 2008 Author Posted October 3, 2008 Thanks! I won't be that huge, maybe when I extend it for BeLUG (if I will do that). This is almost 32x32, with the SNOT base. The problem is: I won't have the right (and amount) pieces to make buildings to match with it. And the place to put it on, but when I extend it, there will be enough place. But the contest version will be 32x32. Quote
Zorro Posted October 3, 2008 Posted October 3, 2008 Looks very good, and it seems you will need to put some time in your project indeed, but I think you are going to be Ok. Keep up the good work. Quote
Legoking Posted October 3, 2008 Posted October 3, 2008 Nice MOC. I also really like your flickr gallery. Nice job!! Quote
Matn Posted October 4, 2008 Author Posted October 4, 2008 (edited) Thanks! Got a little bit further today: Now I don't know which to choose: a wall where the guards can stand on the look-out, or keep it like this. Edited October 4, 2008 by Matn Quote
Zorro Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 Thanks! Got a little bit further today: Now I don't know which to choose: a wall where the guards can stand on the look-out, or keep it like this. IMHO, adding a small lookout tower would be enough, in relation to the limited space you have. Quote
Matn Posted October 4, 2008 Author Posted October 4, 2008 I will build a 4-studs wide wall, the front wall, to let them walk on and for the look out. I'll see about that look-out tower, it is a nice idea. Quote
Wout Posted October 5, 2008 Posted October 5, 2008 Very nice mocs. Your updated versions of pirate figs are also very nice. Btw: You wrote something on lowlug about stopping with your Hogwarts project? That would be a shame that was also very cool. But you must do what you want. And this look also good. Quote
CPT. Jr Posted October 5, 2008 Posted October 5, 2008 I like your use of the differnt heads, it makes them, oh and the hair too. Good job! Quote
Matn Posted October 6, 2008 Author Posted October 6, 2008 Thanks again. I am putting the Hogwarts project on a hold, let's say untill January-February. I would love to read tips and commentary about the WIP for EB's contest: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=345738 This is the latest version: Quote
Zorro Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 I love what you have done so far, it is really starting to look good, and its just the backgound you've build. I like the wall on the right, the gradual change from water to grass and the vegetation. PS: look out that someone doesn't use your Palmtree to jump from it right into your fortress (unless that is what you have in mind off course). I am looking forward to see the minifigs, the "story" and details added. Quote
Matn Posted October 6, 2008 Author Posted October 6, 2008 Thank you, it's very nice to read such a commentary. That's indeed the purpose of the tree, but the pirate who wants to get in to the fortress like that, will think he shouldn't have done that... I'll will update it with figures and some extras slowly, I really want the advent calendar for the figures and the accesoires to add it. And I'll have it after 18 October. Next weekend there will be an update. ^^ Quote
Matn Posted October 12, 2008 Author Posted October 12, 2008 I have made a little bit progress. It has been made a bit bigger with 4 studs in the length. Now I really need youre advice: http://www.flickr.com/photos/30479264@N06/2934723146/ I would like to know where there should be more details, if the wall needs to be thicker, if there should be a house on it, if I should make it bigger so there can me more things on it (but then I have to order bricks), etc. I'd love to read your comments on it! My advise: Add more details (flags, guns, a cannon?, a parrot,...) to the main wall, and yes I would make it thicker although that is a matter of opinion and it looks fine now as well. A little house, like an armory for the guards or a small guardshouse with cafetaria would look great. Making it even larger is not a necessity if you make this look good. Not everyone has as many bricks as DNL... I don't like the little flag you used, but the pirates and soldiers look good for now. Do you have a reason for having both Spanish and Redcoat soldiers?(shortage perhaps?) You get a from me at this point. I will make a full review when it is finished BTW.
